live on ESPN2 at 3pm ET on Monday, December 13, 2010 scored a 0.4 rating and was watched by an
estimated 570,000 viewers.

Inclement weather may have postponed a chunk of this weekend's matches in Europe, but that
doesn't mean there were no Americans Abroad with noteworthy performances.
Ricardo Clark received his first start of the Bundesliga campaign, going the distance in
Eintracht Frankfurt's 1-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund.
Some of Newcastle's top players will be in demand in the January transfer window. Joey Barton -
Hammers and Aston Villa are interested And while that may be worrying for Newcastle fans, it also
shows that Newcastle have some top class players playing on Tyneside this season. We all know about
Spurs wanting Andy Carroll [.
Lichaj...doing some serious clubbing too....
The Big Nasty, Eric Lichaj, acquitted himself well in a 2-1 Aston Villa loss to Tottenham
Hotspur going up against one of the best wingers in the Prem on Sunday, Gareth Bale.
You can ballpoint it that Lichaj is at least second on the rightback depth chart for 2014 at
this point and likely 2011 as well (despite some folks at ESPN suggesting Jonathan Spector already
has the starting 2014 spot locked-up.
Back at work after the holiday and the Premier League gifts us Arsenal Chelsea (3pm - ESPN2). Also
in today's Daily, we talk about DC United and the Baltimore option. Once upon a time late in the
last century, there was a team named Aston Villa who surprised everybody in the Premier League by
staying top of the table through December.
Harry Redknapp and Aston Villa's Robert Pires square after a
Pires tackle takes out a Spurs player near the dug-out. Harry Seems far from happy with the
challenge.
Eric Lichaj did well against Bale, but stunk up the joint against City.
We tuned into the Man City v Aston Villa match for one reason today, to watch Villa's American
right back Eric Lichaj. The 22 yr old was impressive in shutting down Gareth Bale in their loss to
Spurs two days ago, and we though maybe he could replicate the performance today.

Last night's Carling Cup tie between second city rivals Birmingham and Aston Villa was always
going to be a tasty affair hence the considerable hoik in police presence and, during the game, the
two sets of supporters provided a magnificent bristling alchemy of noise that married perfectly
with the exciting, fractious football on display.

In the Europa League last night Adam Johnson was excellent; again. Ask
anyone who has watched the Prem this season what City lack and they'll say spark and creativity.
Johnson is all spark and creativity, and not only that, he tracks back and harries far more than
most wingers do.

The big freeze and the dismal failure of England's 2018 World Cup bid will not stop the Premier
League from rolling on. Its game week 16, time to forget the disappointment, put the heating on and
enjoy another weekend of Football.
Spurs enjoyed a much needed rest midweek and will be hoping to capitalise on any signs of a
Birmingham hangover following their Carling Cup exploits.

Union academy phenom Zach Pfeffer impressed during his recent training stint with Hoffenheim.
"He did extremely well," said John Hackworth, "to the point where they liked him so much they'd

Liverpool showed former manager Gerard Houllier that life without him at
Anfield was much better after he claimed that in his time at the club he dragged them into the 20th
Century, while also taking the credit for making Steven Gerrard the World Class midfielder he is
today.
Liverpool moved into 8th position in the Premier League as they beat Aston Villa 3-0 behind
goals from David Ngog, Ryan Babel and Maxi Rodriguez. The defeat sent former Liverpool boss Gerard
Houllier side to 16th place, only 2 points above the relegation zone.
Liverpool wrapped the game up with two early goals within three minutes of each other.
First of all, hearty congratulations to Fernando Torres on the birth of his 2nd child. Having
said that, never has the the news of impending child birth been greeted with such wariness by the
Kop. Stevie, Carra and Nando, probably the 3 most important players in the team, all missing.

Arsenal sits top of the English table and the fleet-footed Frenchman Nasri dances to the praise
of pundits the world over. Including me. However, a stocky and quick-thinking Russian also deserves
some love. Other blogs would debate about Andrei's recent withdrawn, central role by talking about
"false nines" or "attacking tens" or "9.

It may just be December, but Chelsea faces what amounts to a must-win match on Sunday.
The Blues take on first-place Manchester United at Stamford Bridge and a win could pull Chelsea
a point ahead of the visitors. A Manchester United win would give the Red Devils a five-point
cushion on Chelsea with a game in hand.
Another look-a-likey for you, comparing a hollywood actor to a quality centre

If you don't know Ryan Reynolds he is the former lucky basterd currently in the middle of a
divorce with Scarlett Johansson and star of a lot terrible chick flicks as well as Van Wilder
and Smoking Aces.
Good morning folks. As we draw closer to Christmas, there is plenty of news on the American
soccer front and plenty to discuss. Let's go over some of the items making the rounds, and some of
the things I'm hearing.
The 2011 MLS Draft is shaping up to be a strong one, with sources telling me the mass exodus
from Akron is set to take place.
Our gift to you... all the Boxing Day team news in one convenient blog post package. After the
jump. Young doubtful for Spurs clash - Yahoo! Eurosport: Ashley Young remains a doubt for Aston
Villa's Barclays Premier League clash against Tottenham at Villa Park on Boxing Day... Neither he
nor Luke Young (groin) have trained with the team this week so remain touch and go.
Not much going on this weekend except for the English Premier League and a few other matches on
television. Okay, only one other live one and that one is from Australia, which barely counts.
Among the EPL matches, though, there are a few good ones and one great one. The great one of course
is (Wayne Gretzky) the match on Monday between Chelsea and Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on
Monday.
With Christmas in the rearview mirror, and a day without live soccer behind us, soccer fans
hungry for some on-field action will get their gifts today as Boxing Day clashes make up today's
light schedule.
Bad weather has already led to cancellations of two matches (Blackpool-Liverpool and
Everton-Birmingham City), but there is still action to watch throughout the day.

Eric Lichaj and Aston Villa may have lost their match against Tottenham on Sunday, but the
American put forth one of the most solid performances of his young career.
Starting at right back in the 2-1 loss to Tottenham on Boxing Day, Lichaj helped contain the
dangerous Gareth Bale before Bale eventually moved over to the opposite flank.
£35 for a match ticket. £25 for petrol. £2 for a hot chocolate. Watching Rafael van der Vaart
return to the side, Priceless.
In all fairness to the rest of the team it wasn't vdV alone who got us a hard earned 3 points
yesterday but he did make all the difference.

First it was the Arsenal model, then, briefly, the Aston Villa model. Now though, it's the 'Spurs
model that Newcastle United should be aspiring to according to new manager, Alan Pardew. Speaking
to local rag, The Chronic, Pardew expressed his admiration of the North London side saying: "Let's
be honest – They are a very, very [.
In many ways, 2010 has been an unusual curate's egg of a year on the pitch. With the value of
hindsight, we can see that not everything that we might have predicted last January came to pass
yet, at the same time, it often felt as if it was very much business as usual on the pitch. The
clubs of the Premier League and Barcelona, the aesthetes choice, all contrived to hit a brick wall
in the Champions League before the final whilst, in the Premier League itself, league Chelsea
managed to break Manchester United's most recent monopoly on the league title itself with a victory
that felt more routine than it was thanks to late season thrashings of Aston Villa, Stoke City and
Wigan Athletic.
Since last year, Premier League clubs have been required to publish the payments they've made to

representatives have received £2.28m from Aston Villa between October '09 and September '10, up
from the £1.
