The Premiership woke up this morning to a lot of excitement. Everton fans were celebrating breaking
their transfer record, West Ham fans were incredulous that they had sold half their defence without
replacing them, Liverpool fans were "overjoyed" at signing two foreign 18 year olds to
add to their increasing collection of foreign 18 year olds, [.
Sadly, we could've turned this thing into an all-Prem list, but did our best to look elsewhere.
Didn't turn out so well. The problem is so many sums paid in the Premiership dwarf that of those in
other leagues - Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1, etc. - that it can make their normally [...]
Big, bad Brad Friedel posted another victory last weekend as he and Aston Villa kept on
rolling.
Friedel was one of few bright spots for Americans Abroad last weekend. How bad were things?
Consider this linep of Americans:
------------------------------Jozy Altidore-----------------------------
DaMarcus Beasley-----------Freddy Adu-------------Clint Dempsey
---------------------Michael Bradley---Maurice Edu------------------
Heath Pearce------Jay DeMerit----Jonathan Spector---Frank Simek
-------------------------------Brad Guzan------------------------------
Like that team?
After hundreds (at least) of news bits over the last few months, we're finally almost at the end of
the summer transfer window. There's a lot yet to happen on the final day of the window, but I'm
here to get you caught up on all of the latest signings and speculation. England So, [...]
Personally, I am not convinced that West Ham will be handing over money to Sheffield United this
side of 2020 with all the expected appeals, but this morning's newspapers are full of stories that
the Hammers will be forced to sell their star players in January. Here is a rundown of the
potential movers and [.
It took a while, but Freddy Adu finally made his first start for AS Monaco. The U.S. Olympic
midfielder made the starting XI in Monaco's French Cup match against Paris St. Germain. It could be
Adu's last start for a while after a goal from one-time Chicago Fire target Fabrice Pancrate gave
PSG the win, thus ending Adu's potential source for major playing time.
According to the latest reports out of England, Fernando Torres is winning his race for fitness
ahead of the hotly anticipated clash between Liverpool and Manchester United next Saturday.
The News of the World is reporting that the Reds' medical staff have been delighted with the
progress that the Spaniard has made since tweaking his hamstring against Aston Villa last week, and
are confident that he will be fit in time for the United date.
Saturday Arsenal v Hull City, 17:30 Can Hull's excellent run keep going. Against Arsenal? Away? No,
it can't. Prediction: 2-1 to Arsenal. Not an easy win for the Gunners, but a win nonetheless. Bonus
Prediction: DNA tests confirm Hull's 39 year old striker Dean Windass as the father of Jack
Wilshere, Carlos Vela and Kieran Gibbs.
No man is an island, with the possible exception of Frank Lampard. We all crave companionship, but
I crossed the line in my pursuit of Helen Chamberlain. I sneaked in to the Soccer AM studios and
took a few unauthorised photos to publish on my website. I've now been charged with intent to

There had been a lot of speculation, and even some facts mixed in, that a Premier League rival,
thought to be Aston Villa or Portsmouth, or both, were interested yesterday in signing the skillful
former Manchester City midfielder. Joey Barton - I owe the Newcastle club and fans so much However,
Barton has now made it clear [.
In British newspaper match reports of Aston Villa's 2-1 away win against Tottenham Hotspur, almost
all of the stories lead with sentences similar to this one found in The Sun: "Calamity keeper
Heurelho Gomes messed up to leave Spurs rooted at the foot of the table." True, yes, but it
doesn't provide a complete accurate picture [.
This spotted by The Spoiler in Aston Villa's UEFA Cup match v. PFC Litex Lovech.
At about the 0:56 mark. Right before the obvious red card walk of shame.
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is reportedly considering a January swoop for Tottenham Hotspur
winger Aaron Lennon, with the England International also said to be attracting attention from Aston
Villa and Newcastle United.
21-year-old Lennon has been at White Hart Lane since joining from Leeds United in 2005, but despite
making a promising start to his career at the North London side, which forced him into the England
squad, Lennon has not pushed on to become the star many thought he would at Spurs.

Saturday's match between Arsenal and Newcastle featured a glimpse of something you rarely see on
television someone drinking a pint of beer. It's ridiculous, really. Millions of football fans
around the world drink beer either at home, the pub or from the refreshment kiosks when watching
football, but it's against the law in England to [.
Come on down! These days everyone wants to be taken over by a billionaire and then immediately get
linked with players worth more than the entire debt of Africa. But how? Ker-Ching! It's easy! The
Premier League title awaits, all you have to do is pick out a billionaire, flutter your eyelashes
and as sure as [.
After a couple of days to reflect on our actions in the transfer market since the start of the
summer until the close of the transfer window, the question has to be asked; Were the powers that
be just too timid in their actions?
We didn't want to sell Robbie Keane, we sold Robbie Keane. We didn't want to sell Dimitar Berbatov,
we sold Dimitar Berbatov.
It's your call, you get to be Bob Bradley for a day, what would you do? Who would you start?
What lineup would be most effective in getting the 3 points, and in the process hopefully
more than one goal. Here's the Roster you can choose from: GOALKEEPERS (2): Brad Guzan (Aston
Villa: 2/2 SO), Tim Howard (Everton [.
Gerry takes a break from his weekly drudgery of crime-fighting and orphan-rescuing to give you the
latest on English football and your best bet for the weekend. In many ways I'm like a dwarf - I
find it hard to put my hand in my pocket. I never waste money on a newspaper and only [...]
I think I'm getting better at this predicting business. Last week's attempts at clairvoyance
actually yielded two correct scores (Man City 1-3 Chelsea and Portsmouth 2-1 Middlesbrough). But I
also predicted that Liverpool vs Man Utd would be goalless only for Carlos Tevez to make a liar out
of me within three minutes.
Take us to the promise land I know that I generally write negative things about the Premier League,
but I genuinely feel that its existence has been eroding all that we love about the game of
football for too long, and that the world would be a better place without it. Too much money is
being funnelled into it, by too many people who don't give a monkeys about the game, or about
anything but short term financial reward.
First off, I welcome everyone to join us in the EPL Talk Chat this weekend. Starting Saturday from
7:20 am and Sunday from 8:20 am. Now onto the predictions. All times are Eastern and TV Schedules

Some would agree that this was an absolute borefest while others would not. Martin O'Neil and
Rafa didn't get into a scrap and Barry didn't cry so it was definitely not the grudge match we were
hoping for. For me, the game pretty much ended when Torres came out with a pulled hamstring because
at that point the attack threat was gone.
While it's clear that Manchester United has not played like the best club in the world recently,
it's equally clear that none of the other top clubs in the world seem to want to take the top spot
over. As a case in point, let's look at last week's top six. While United fell to Zenit St.
Petersburg in the UEFA Super Cup, four of the five clubs directly behind it in the rankings (Inter
Milan, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Roma) all managed no more than a draw or, in Real's case, a loss.

Marek Cech (Porto), Roman Bednar (Hearts), Luke Moore (Aston Villa), Gianni Zuiverloon
(Heerenveen), Kim Do-Heon. Notable departures: Curtis Davies (Aston Villa), Kevin Phillips

Pick up a newspaper today and the chances are the back pages are filled with talk of Robinho,
Berbatov and the many other players moving to new clubs before the Premier League transfer window
closed last night.
Yet for all the players grabbing the headlines and milking the spotlight, there are those that have
been shown the door to make way for them in recent weeks.
Few noticed last week when Juande Ramos called for a shortening of the transfer window, but the
nuclear fallout from Monday's race to the finish seems to support his argument. Prior to Monday,
Robinho had been settling in nicely at for another season at Real Madrid, Kevin Keegan was sorting
out his first proper [.
LIVERPOOL manager Rafael Benitez has defended his tactics at Aston Villa.
The Anfield side gained a creditable point from a goalless draw with Martin O'Neill's team.
But the use of striker Robbie Keane out wide on the left provoked a lot of comment.
However Benitez insists it was the right decision.
(Note: Since there was only minimal club action this weekend involving the WCR Top 25 Clubs, I am
posting the next in my series of Annual Rankings. I hope you enjoy it – or at least find it
interesting. The WCR Top 25 Clubs list will return next week.)
In the past, I've started off writing about each year by discussing events in the UEFA Champions
Cup tournament.
EAI's Victims Need Our Help
We know a lot about football you and me. We know that Brazil isn't what it used to be, that the MLS
is woefully overrated at the moment (which is saying a lot), that Middlesborough are this season's
Aston Villa, that Manchester City will still never win anything, and we know that England will
never play attractive football again.
With one month of Premiership action out of the way, Premiership Talk reviews all twenty teams and
grades them based on their early season performances. Arsenal The title hopefuls from London have
had an indifferent start to the season. An opening day narrow victory against West Bromwich Albion
didn't convince too many fans, and that performance was [.

OUR TEAMS
Everton (1-2-0, 17th in Premier League): Away to Stoke (8:30 a.m. ET Sunday; 11
a.m. on Fox Soccer Channel). Marouane Fellaini should be in the lineup, but new defender Lars
Jacobsen is out for a while.
Before I begin writing my predictions for this weekend, I would invite everyone into the EPL Talk
Chat this weekend. Staring from 7:30 am Eastern/12:30 pm UK on Saturday and from 8:20 am
Easter/1:20 pm UK on Sunday, join myself and many others as we discuss all the action from the
Barclays Premier League.
Spurs defender Gareth Bale is hoping to cure the Aston Villa hangover as early as Thursday when the
team get their UEFA Cup camapign underway. Last night's 2-1 defeat to Martin O'Neill's side was the
team's third of the season and leaves them rock bottom of the league. Bale accepts it has been the
worst possible start [.
Under-fire Spurs boss Juande Ramos remains confident his young squad can come good despite seeing
their winless Premier League run stretched to four games. The north Londoners, who went down 2-1
against Aston Villa last night remain rooted to the foot of the table and pressure is already
mounting on the Spanish coach.
