Remember when the Grown-Ass Man started saying thing s like "What Eddie Johnson is not going to do
is ______" and we were all like what? I mean dude had swag and all at the time but once you start
talking about yourself in the third person it's only a matter of time before you're hanging out in
Vegas with Spiedi at an event sponsored by AXE and Ed Hardy.
Wayne Rooney assisted three of England's goal against Bulgaria in the Euro 2012 Qualifiers and
gave a brilliant pass for the first goal as well. Roo was fantastic. Here are all the assists:

Fabio Capello's England squad have received a huge moral boost this afternoon after England striker
Wayne Rooney travelled with the squad to Switzerland prior to Tuesday night's all important
European Championship qualification match. In spite of potentially damaging allegations surrounding
the Manchester United striker's private life, the England coach confirmed that England's star man
would travel and play for his country against the Swiss as England seek to keep up the momentum
after a promising 4 - 0 win over Bulgaria at Wembley on Friday.
Long time U.S. national team midfielder Eddie Lewis has announced that the 2010 MLS Season will be
his last as a professional. The 36-year-old earned 82 caps with the U.S. National Team, scoring 10
goals and adding 16 assists. A two-time World Cup veteran, his most famous moment came when he
delivered a perfectly placed cross onto the head of Landon Donovan that resulted in the insurance
goal of the USA's 2-0 victory against Mexico in the Round of 16 at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, helping
the U.
Colorado's starters will have to wait until Thursday to find out what the team will look like
after Tuesday's trade of midfielder Mehdi Ballouchy for forward Macoumba Kandji.
The starters are scheduled to take the day off from practice on Wednesday, which gives the team
a couple of days to figure out where Kandji fits and who will be called on to create from the
midfield in front of Saturday's 7 p.
After every World Cup there are players that get noticed for their performances, sign on to big
contracts, and then never live up to the hype. In fact that is more the case than not. After
watching the first several performances from Mesut Ozil you can already see that in his case he is
in the divine minority.
This was one of those rare games that falls in the category, Easier Done Than Said. Many
expected Braga to put up a stronger challenge. Given their wins over Celtic and Sevilla in the
qualifying stages it was a justified opinion. I thought the occasion, first time ever in the
Champions League, got to them.

The Air Force women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 match to Weber State Friday night in day one
action at the Falcon Invitational at the Cadet Soccer Stadium.
The loss drops the Falcons to 6-4-1 on the season while the Wildcats improved to 1-9-0. In the
opening game, UNLV (6-4-0) coasted to a 5-0 win over VMI (1-8-0).
Before I head out to Galaxy practice in Carson this morning (despite this insane heat) ahead of
next Sunday's SuperClasico I have time to note that:

Arsenal youngster Theo Walcott has made it no secret that last season, which was blighted with
injuries and a struggle for form, was a major disappointment for him.
The 21-year old was left with a bitter taste in his mouth as he went into the summer trophyless
with the Gunners while also missing out on Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.
Nate Jaqua scored twice and Steve Zakuani notched two assists in leading the Sounders to an
impressive win over Chivas USA.
Assists of the Week are here again and the likes of Iniesta, Llorente, Giovinco, and
Nani light up the compilation. However, one name you probably don't know is Kees Kwakman on NAC
Breda who lifted an absolute beauty. Anyway, which is your favourite?

This is odd. Do Manchester Unite usually end August with seven points from three? Of course,
historically, United are slow starters. By no means was August a great start to the season (use
Chelsea's start as a reference to define 'great') but it was solid, no less, and very encouraging.
Anyway, what normally makes deciding a Player of the Month so difficult is the fact that football
is a team game, so opinion is usually split over whom deserves the recognition.
David Beckham said he is targeting the Sept. 11 game against the Columbus Crew at Home Depot
Center.
You might want to hold off on buying your tickets just yet though.
"I'll be on the bench and hopefully I'll get on the field for 15-20 minutes,"Beckham said
Thursday.
Frankly, I'll believe it when I see it.

Phoenix Suns forward Hedo Turkoglu scored 20 points and Sinan Guler chipped in 17 as Turkey came
away with a 95-77 win over France on Sunday at the FIBA World Championship. A crowd of 15,500 fans
(including 22 members of the Turkish soccer team) cheered on the home team to victory in the round
of 16 game.
These days, the most unpopular people in modern-day Britain are politicians, bankers and
journalists. Imagine rolling them all into one. Eurgh. That's exactly the impression the
Telegraph's Henry Winter seems to give (some would argue he's the best journalist on these
shores), a hack so arrogant it's difficult to comprehend into words.

Congratulations to the August Online Soccer Academy players of the month! August's winners are
Samantha Jones, Tommy Michaels and Rachel Twins.
Samantha Jones wins it for the Rookies group! Samantha has had a great start to her fall
season. She scored 3 goals in her first game this season.
When Argentina is playing international basketball, it's usually Manu Ginobili playing the
starring role. With Ginobili sitting out this year's World Championships, the mantle has been
passed to Luis Scola and he hasn't disappointed. In fact, he's been the World's best player.
Against Brazil, Scola was simply awesome.

A good week for Germany, England, Italy and Holland but not so good for the Portuguese or the
tabloid press in England. These stories and more feature in this week's the Good, the Bad and the

I'm not sure how much clearer I can say it. The title says it all: Ricky Rubio sucks. He is so
overrated and so overhyped that it's unbelievable. Listen to most basketball fans (even scouts) and
you'll hear Ricky Rubio compared to everyone from Magic Johnson to John Stockton to Pistol Pete. In
reality, Ricky Rubio is a better passing version of Rafer Alston minus a bit of athleticism and a
lot of defense.
By Walter Broeckx I must admit the first hours when I found out about the Walcott injury I was
down. Very down. Why oh why did it happen again to one of our players. We all remember last season.

Although Real Madrid started off the season slow with a draw against Mallorca, Los Blancos will
be looking to bounce back from their disappointing start when they take on Osasuna in league
action. With Jose Mourinho having to be without his best player in Cristiano Ronaldo, Madrid should
still be able to pull off a win against Osasuna.

Exciting Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri is hoping that Liverpool revive their interest in him and
make a move to sign him during the January transfer window.
Shaqiri was one of the youngest players to go to the World Cup, testament to his potential. The
18-year-old's pace and dribbling ability helped FC Basel to the league and cup double last term as
he contributed six goals and five assists in his debut season.
Henry Winter was quick to blame Wayne Rooney's absence for United's draw against Everton. Sir
Alex Ferguson's decision had "back fired" according to him.
Ridiculous, I thought. We scored three goals away from home, so it wasn't our attack that let us
down at the weekend.
However, the reaction of Everton players might make you feel differently.
The Rapids have announced a trade with last week's opponents the NY Red Bulls. They left Ballouchy
in NY and brought back Macoumba Kandji. Kandji is a 25-year old forward from Senegal who's spent
some time playing on the wing as well. He was signed by NY 2 years ago tomorrow from the Atlanta
USL team, and since then has made 41 appearances for RBNY, with 30 starts, 6 goals, and 7 assists.
On what has turned out to be anything but a quiet news day for MLS, the Red Bulls announced this
morning that they had traded Macoumba Kandji to the Colorado Rapids for attacking midfielder Mehdi
Ballouchy (above, R). Ballouchy, a native of Morocco, played his college ball at Santa Clara before
being drafted as a Generation Adidas player by Real Salt Lake in 2006, then was traded to the
Rapids in the transaction that brought Kyle Beckerman to Salt Lake City.
Colorado School of Mines' Baski Baker has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference
Offensive Player of the Week as announced Tuesday by the RMAC.
Last week, CSM picked up a pair of wins to improve to 3-0 on the season. Mines posted a 4-0

The Mehdi Ballouchy era in the midfield for Colorado came to an end on Tuesday.
The club announced that it had traded the midfielder to the New York Red Bulls for forward
Macoumba Kandji.
Acquired by the Rapids in a trade with Real Salt Lake on July 16, 2007, Ballouchy leaves
Colorado having played in 77 games for the club and scoring seven goals adding 18 assists.

Oft-injured midfielder Colin Clark was traded to Houston for Brian Mullan on Wednesday, just
ahead of the MLS roster freeze.
Along with Mullan, the Rapids receive Houston's natural fourth round 2013 MLS SuperDraft pick.
The Dynamo picked up a midfielder recovering from a second torn ACL in two years, and allocation

The Tuesday trade of Mehdi Ballouchy to New York ended the Colorado Rapids experiment that was
born in the 2007 swap of Ballouchy for fan favorite Kyle Beckerman.
For the Thursday list, we look at the paths the two players have taken and the way their teams
have performed since that switch more than three years ago.
Lauren Jackson is the best women's basketball player in the world. And now she can add a second
WNBA championship to her resume. After winning it all in 2004, Jackson and the Seattle Storm lost
in the first round every year ... until this season. On Thursday, the Storm beat the Atlanta Dream
87-84 to sweep the WNBA Finals.
The Soccerlens Fantasy Football Game is all about picking winners. The game is weekly, as
opposed to season long, so if you see a Premier League game where you know what's going to happen,
that's points in the bank. And points in the bank means money in the bank, because the Silver, Gold
and Platinum levels of the Soccerlens Fantasy Football Game offer weekly cash prizes to the top
three in each 11-team weekly league.
Sunderland 1-1 Arsenal
Yesterday's result was gutting, it felt more like a loss. I thought we had made it home... one
last delivery to get rid of, and after doing it well all day the odds seemed like they would fall
in our favour and someone would just give the ball a clout and get it out of there.
Manchester United 3-2 Liverpool: Observations
In the midst of a Mancunian drizzle, Dimitar Berbatov shone so bright that he had put others in
the shade; and in the process, silencing the last of his doubters with a monumental, inspirational
performance one that could never to be forgotten simply because of the manner and audacity in which
he scored the second of his three goals.
