Major League Soccer's Disciplinary Committee announced on Thursday that FC Dallas midfielder Brek
Shea has been suspended for three games and fined for kicking the ball at the assistant referee.
The incident occurred in Dallas's 2-1 loss to Columbus on May 12th.
Not only has FC Dallas' visit to Columbus Crew provided us with a textbook throat-kick DTotD,
but also a fine example of assistant referee abuse. FC Dallas' Brek Shea was unhappy with the
linesman for calling a foul on him, and expressed his disappointment via the medium of volleying
the ball directly at the official's stomach.
Brek Shea's frustrating start to the season just got worse.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee handed Shea a three-game suspension and fined him an undisclosed
amount for his actions in FC Dallas' 2-1 loss to the Columbus Crew this past weekend. Shea received
the punishment for his actions in the 24th minute of the match, when he intentionally kicked the
ball at an assistant referee.
Futty Danso received a one game suspension and a fine for an undisclosed amount for striking
Calen Carr in the head while tackling the ball away from him in the Portland Timbers game versus
the Houston Dynamo on Tuesday. During the game the play in question was ruled fair play as Futty
got the ball before colliding with Carr, but upon further review the MLS Discipline Committee ruled
that Futty's challenge warranted further action.
Just when you think the MLS Discipline Committee isn't going to strike this week, the hammer
comes down and comes down hard.

amount for deliberately kicking the ball at an assistant referee in the 24th minute of the game

The FA Cup final had its most controversial moment in the 81st minute when Andy Caroll rose
above Branislav Ivanovic to head the ball towards goal. Did all of the ball cross the line before
Petr Cech got his hands on it? Assistant referee Andrew Garratt made that crucial determination and
it was in favour of Chelsea.
Phil Dowd will referee for this season's FA Cup final between Chelsea and Liverpool FC.
The 49-year-old will be assisted by Stuart Burt (Northamptonshire FA) and Andrew Garratt
(Staffordshire FA) along with fourth official Michael Jones (Cheshire FA) and reserve assistant
referee Simon Long (Cornwall FA).

Manchester United's below-par performance in their 1-0 win over Fulham made it a difficult watch
for the Old Trafford faithful. An offside call from the assistant referee tipped one elderly United
fan over the edge, so she decided to give him an earful. We've heard lots of humorous theories on
what she says but we [.

Recent fortunes of these two teams could not be more disparate. Toronto FC is advancing in the
CONCACAF Champions League after dispatching LA Galaxy in two legs. Sounders were throttled in

shook-up their defensive line, starting Nate Burch over Leo Gonzalez as left back and Patrick Ianni
over Jeff Parke in central defense.

Over the weekend, the debate over goalline technology resurfaced as Queens Park Rangers defender
Clint Hill's header against Bolton Wanderers clearly crossed the line with assistant referee Bob
Pollock claiming he was unable to see due to a Bolton defender on the line blocking his view. Hot
on the heels of the International Football Association Board's (IFAB) announcement that they were
committed to accepting technology, and that they would be reviewing two systems in the summer.
Elias Bazakos began his career as a referee at the age of 9. Spending his early years officiating
with his father Mike and his younger brother Fotis, Elias continued working his way up through the

It all started according to plan. Milan took the initiative from the beginning against Juventus,
dominating possession and going ahead thanks to another strike from our free scoring midfielder,
Antonio Nocerino. Ten minutes later it should have been two. But, it was not. Roberto Romagnoli,
the assistant referee, somehow failed to see how Sulley Muntari's [.

Showing match officials the card Match officials have obviously been spending too long watching
players overreacting to injuries. Belgian assistant referee Frederick Geldhof was hit by a piece of
cardboard during the match between Lierse and Zulte Waregem. While OTP is sure it was quite sore,
the linesman's moveie death stagger is probably a bit [.
Big blow for AC Milan's title hopes as striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been suspended for three
matches for his red card against Napoli, meaning he will miss the top-of-the-table clash with Serie
A leaders Juventus.
Ibra was sent off midway through the second half of Sunday's 0-0 draw with Napoli at the San
Siro after he slapped opponent Salvatore Aronica in an off-the-ball incident.
Stylish and Educational! 3nil's Onside/Offside Shirt.
Imagine a perfectly timed run from the far side. Ozil slips Benzema in, which is followed by a
cool finish to the far post. But there's something wrong; the assistant referee has raised his flag
and the goal doesn't stand.
No Tractor Girls allowed Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell is at the centre of a sexism row after

Manchester United face Wigan, Manchester City face West Brom, Liverpool face Blackburn, Chelsea

dismal home record.

Hi everyone,
As most of you have seen the game between Stoke and Tottenham there were a few questionable
decisions made by the referee Chris Foy.
First I think its right to talk about Peter Crouch's handling of the ball before setting up the
goal. It could be said that the referee did not have a clear view of the incident, however the fact
that the assistant referee could have signaled should not be ignored.

Arsenal brought together an array of legends to help them celebrate the history that is Arsenal,
125 years of history to be precise, from the days of Dial Square, Plumstead common, Henry Norris
getting us into Division one after WW1, the Chapman Era, the 70's double, moving in more recent
history with George Graham's titles and cups, right upto Wenger's invincible's and some of the best
football I have ever seen.

With Manchester United one up through Chicharito (or rather Chicharito's stomach/thigh), a
pretty naff penalty call from the assistant referee saw Newcastle nick a point at Old Trafford this
afternoon.
Referee Mike Jones quite rightly gave a corner when Rio Ferdinand's clean-as-you-like block
challenge saw Hatem Ben Arfa's cross squirt out of touch, only for Jones' assistant to overrule the
decision because the shimmering fairies dancing around his head told him to.
Sir Alex Ferguson has slammed the assistant referee, John Flynn, after a ridiculous decision
which denied United three points against Newcastle today.
The referee, Mike Jones, initially indicated that a corner should be awarded, before the
linesman flagged for a penalty.
Ferguson criticised the linesman and reflected on an equally poor decision by an official at the
end of the 2009-2010 season against Chelsea, when Didier Drogba scored the match-winning goal from
an offside position.
Flag FAIL Roma forward Osvaldo smacked a crisp bicycle kick into the net against Lecce last week.
Cop a load of this. While Osvaldo was doing a Rooney, the assistant referee was doing a disservice
to fans of the game everywhere. He flagged for offside and the goal was disallowed. If you pause
the video [.

Alex Horne, with a little Madonna-esque microphone
FA big-wig Alex Horne believes that the much-debated goal-line technology could finally be
introduced into top level football as early as next season. Horne says that if one of the current
systems which are being tested is found to work reliably, then the technology is likely to be
introduced.
Brolly bad luck The La Liga match between Granada and Real Mallorca was called off after an
assistant referee was struck by an umbrella. The linesman was left with a deep cut to his cheek
after being hit by the stray accessory. After spotting his bleeding colleague, the referee
immediately took all the match officials [.
The clock has struck midnight on Levante's cinderella start to the season as the former leaders
suffered their third consecutive defeat in a row, this time at the hands of Atlético Madrid.
All five goals came within a rollercoaster final 25 minutes as Atlético won 3-2. Xavi Torres
equalised for the visitors shortly after Pizzi had put the hosts ahead, but Adrián López's fourth
goal of the season and Diego's 83rd-minute effort ensured Atlético moved up to ninth.
Don Garber spoke to reporters today to announce the league's best XI and talk a bit about the
2012 season. The only Seattle Sounder named to the Best XI was goal-keeper Kasey Keller. Keller, in
his final professional season, anchored one of the league's top defenses. He led all league
goalkeepers with 18 wins and made a career-high 110 saves.
