An impressive start to the US Open Cup has set the tone desired for the New York Red Bulls, and
with the team slowly working their way back to health, it is a vibe they hope continues.
The Harrisburg City Islanders will be playing host to the Red Bulls this Tuesday at the Skyline
Sports Complex.
Last week the University of Minnesota announced the surprise resignation of women's head soccer
coach Mikki Denney Wright after 14 years with the Gophers and a 53-19-8 record. The timing and
suddenness of the move surprised everyone, including assistant coach Krystle (Kallman) Seidel. "It
was definitely not something any of us were anticipating," said Seidel [.
Peter Nowak's job security may have plenty of questions surrounding it, but his second in
command doesn't have much to worry about in that regard.
The Brotherly Game has learned that the Union have planned for John Hackworth, the Philadelphia
Union's assistant coach since the beginning of its existence, to take over as head coach in the
event that Nowak will be let go.
The Mutiny announced on Tuesday that head coach Tony Horta has taken a leave of absence and
will be replaced by assistant coach Chris Legates.
According to a statement issued by the team, Horta has decided to leave for "personal reasons."
He guided the club from 2007-09 (25-11-3 overall) before returning to the team prior to the 2012
season.
The New England Revolution might seem to have been the dominant team in Saturday's contest at
RFK, but the score line said otherwise at 3-2. Despite being outperformed marginally on the
statistics sheet, DC United only seemed uncomfortable for the first ten minutes of the second half.
One need only look at Coach Ben Olsen's excellent personnel decisions to see the reason why.

COLUMBUS, OH.--The Chicago Fire continued a trend on Saturday night as they
faced the Columbus Crew for the first time this season. A late push was not enough for the Fire to
walk away with any points, as the Crew prevailed, 2-1, behind first half goals from Eddie Gavin and
Emilio Renteria.
After the Torres story broke soon after Chelsea won the Champions League, it's been good to hear an
update from Nando as it was clear he needed to speak with the club. I wrote a post straight after
the story broke and made it clear that
he has never said he wanted to leave and what's wrong
with wanting to confirm the clubs plans for him and the future!

U.S. Men's National Team defender Edgar Castillo is one of two players who can say he's played for
both the Mexico and U.S. National Teams, along with MNT assistant coach Martin Vasquez.
American-born Castillo switched associations and was granted eligibility to play for the United

Class 3 District 12 Champions - Central Bulldogs, 2012
Congratulations to the Lady Bulldogs of Central High School who captured their first District
soccer championship last week, winning 3-2 against the top-seed Willard Tigers.
The win came in the second overtime of play as the Bulldogs battled back from an 0-2
deficit.
Flexibility wins games and the best way to get it is to blend energy with savvy. DC United Coach
Ben Olsen put out a nicely blended squad against Toronto and its savvy members made the exact right
adjustments to a hard working opposing side which had clogged the middle and kept the game mostly
in United's end.

England manager Roy Hodgson has hired former Manchester United captain Gary Neville as an assistant
coach.
The 37-year-old former England defender has worked as a TV commentator since retiring in 2011 but
holds UEFA coaching qualifications and has signed a four-year contract with the Football
Association.
Toronto FC is off to an 0-8 start to the Major League Soccer season, and rather than seeing
anybody lose their job, the club's response to that awful start has been to change some people's
job titles.
TFC announced on Monday that assistant coach Bob de Klerk has been moved to a role as Technical
Manager, while former TFC player and recent Toronto FC Junior Academy coach Jim Brennan takes over
as the team's lead assistant.
The proverbial hipster Cheshire CatAfter a long and gruelling FIFTEEN MONTHS
coaching Toronto FC's fledgling U-17 team, Newmarket's soccer royalty was gifted the job of TFC
Assistant Coach today. Yes, the hipster-hairdo'd/soul patch aficionado Jim Brennan has replaced the
bombastic Dutchman Bob de Klerk as Aron Winter's number two.
D.C. United will be looking to buck an MLS trend while having the dubious honor of being the
first visiting team at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Visiting teams are 1-5-2 over the last three seasons as the opponent in either the first game of
a new stadium or an expansion team's home opener, with D.
During halftime of last night's 0-0 draw against Real Salt Lake, Chicago Fire legend and current
RSL assistant coach CJ Brown was the seventh member inducted into the Ring of Fire. Holder of the
club record for all-time appearances and minutes played, CJ Brown and the Chicago Fire are
practically synonymous.
As part of Wednesday night's Chicago - Real Salt Lake game, Chicago and US National Team alum CJ
Brown was inducted into the club's Ring of Fire. Brown retired at the end of the 2010 season with
296 appearances for Chicago. He is now an assistant coach with Real Salt Lake. "As a player I only
know the Chicago Fire," Brown said.
For those of you that are a fan of our weekly 3 questions exchange, you are in for a treat this
week. We have not one, but two 3 Questions Exchanges due to our busy game week. For the first
exchange, I talked with Denzel Eslinger over at RSL Soapbox ahead of the Fire/RSL matchup tomorrow
night. This will of course be an extra special event as Fire legend and favorite CJ Brown will be
inducted into the Ring of Fire.
Lansbury Seeking Answers on His Future
Arsenal youngster Henri Lansbury is expected to hold a face-to-face meeting
with manager Arsene Wenger before deciding whether to ask for a permanent transfer
or ink a new deal with the Gunners.
Whatever the result at tomorrows crucial game against Norwich, no doubt there will be a lap of
appreciation from the players to their supporters after the game has ended. One man deserves to
have his name sung loud and proud as he walks around the Emirates pitch for the last time. It is
expected that Pat Rice, Arsene's right hand man, will be hanging up his track suit following many
years as an excellent servant to the club.

After suffering a gutting 2-1 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, the Philadelphia
Union will look to get back to winning when they travel to Seattle to face the Sounders this
weekend.
Philadelphia had been on a two-game winning streak heading into the game against San Jose, even
winning an away game on the West Coast when they beat Chivas USA 1-0.

in December 2011 and this past January about St. Louis' struggles to land an MLS franchise. If you

Interest High In Arsenal Target Dragovic
FC Basel defender Aleksandar Dragovic has claimed that a
number of big European clubs, including Arsenal FC, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund
and Olympique de Marseille want to sign him in the summer transfer window.
From the team: "The Chicago Fire learned after Saturday's match against Seattle Sounders FC -
via the referee's standard game report - that Fire head coach Frank Klopas was dismissed and
defender Jalil Anibaba was red carded for his challenge in the seventh minute of second half
stoppage time. They will both be suspended for the next game, at Chivas USA on Friday, May 4.
Now that Barca coach Pep Guardiola has announced he'll be leaving at the end of
the season, he can expect to find photographers and spies of Abramovich hiding in
the bushes outside his home for the next three months. After their Champions League elimination in
Chelsea's hands on Tuesday, the Blaugranas set things right again with their
7-0 mauling of Rayo Vallecano last night.
To say that it's been an exciting week in football on the European stage would be quite
an understatement. Anyone who would have envisaged Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid
crashing out of the Champions League after failing to win their home games and Barcelona manager
Pep Guardiola announcing his temporary retirement at the end of this season could have been accused
of witchcraft, but it all happened, adding belief to the idea that nothing is a surprise in
football.

Ask Philadelphia Fever head coach Stuart Gore what it's been like since he was named head coach
of the Philadelphia Fever and his answer is quick and honest.
"It's been a bit of a whirlwind."
Which is understandable when you realize that since being named coach of the new WPSL Elite team
in early February, Gore and assistant coach Jamie Scott have been combining their regular work as
coaches for Atlantic Soccer Factory with trying to build a competitive team from scratch, all of
which means a lot of 18 hour days .
TweetPep Guardiola has announced that he will step down as Barcelona coach at the end of the season
after four glorious seasons in the dugout with assistant coach Tito Vilanova ready to take over.
Speaking at an official press conference with club President Sandro Rosell, Guardiola annouced his
decision to stand down as Barca coach [.

The newest member of the UW-Milwaukee women's soccer coaching staff has a unique resume.
Kristen Weiss was named an assistant coach for the Panthers under new coach Greg
Henschel on Tuesday, joining UWM after two-year stints at both Clemson and Maryland in the
Atlantic Coast Conference.
It was a long time coming, however, Real Madrid's 2-1 win over arch rivals Barcelona last night
was the clearest indication of their desire to win their first league title in 4 years. In fact,
the last time Madrid beat Barcelona in the famed El Clasico was when Frank Rijkaard was still Barca
coach.
Zach Scott doesn't score often, but when he does they are game winners. Or at least today's was
a game winner. It's hard to know if his other goals are game winners because they did not happen in
MLS play. Nor in US Open Cup play as an MLS team. Nor in CONCACAF Champions League play. But today,
earning the Seattle Sounders three points in their 1-nil win over the Colorado Rapids he
scored.
