Goalkeepers - Petr Cech, helmet and all, is vital to Chelsea, partyly because
he's so solid and partly because his back-ups hardly befit a club of Chelsea's size.
Day One in the books, and I'm as happy as Sylvie in the photo above. 46 points from Begovic, Van
Der Vaart and Gyan. Day Two looks to me much more interesting, with the Manchester derby very much
at the forefront. But first a look back at yesterday. Stoke City v. Birmingham City Stoke bossed

Tough on Coventry, who led through Leon Best's wonder goal, but were pegged back, first through
a Stephen Wright own goal in the final minute of normal time, then when Aaron Mokoena scored the
winner with a fine header in the dying seconds of extra time.
Coventry were much the better side in normal time, before Pompey dominated extra time it's a
much-needed win for the south coast club, who will find out later today if they will receive £7m
in TV money and have their transfer embargo lifted.

Former Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp could be about to save his old club, and in the process
land two new players for his high-flying Tottenham side. Redknapp is lining up the signings of both
Pompey midfielder Younes Kaboul and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
While the signings wouldn't completely alleviate Portsmouth's financial troubles, the move would
enable David James to stay at Fratton Park and also give the south coast club a much needed cash
boost.
According to Neil Allen at The News, Tottenham are in talks with
Portsmouth for goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
However it is reported that Begovic would not be able to play with Tottenham this season unless
FIFA gives the club special permission.

Loic would be a 'Nice' addition to the Arsenal squad
Rumour No. 1: Arsenal are going to have to wait until the summer if they want

Right then, where were we? That's right, on the deals that are supposed to have happened, but
according to Tottenham Hotspur, haven't.
Just so that we're clear, Eidur Gudjohnsen has signed up until the end of the season on loan. I'll

Stoke have signed Portsmouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic on a four-and-a-half-year contract
for £3.
The Temperature is truly reaching boiling point as confirmation of both winners and losers on
the continent is steadily becoming apparent. Title chasing sides slip up , teams avoid relegation,
others are not as lucky , and one team takes a steady advantage into the second league of a major
cup final, all in a good weekend`s work.
Or maybe just lousy timing. Shawcross won't be rushed, Thursday, April 15, 2010 Meanwhile, Pulis
has hinted that Asmir Begovic will be making his debut in goal for Stoke before the end of the
season. Begovic, who could have been Portsmouth's FA Cup final goalkeeper had he not left for Stoke
in January, is likely to be blooded in the final few fixtures.
Passing the torch? Mark to spark keeper merry-go-round Fulham will reportedly move for West Ham's

Schwarzer, 37, is expected to complete a switch across London to The Emirates following the end of
Australia's World Cup adventure.
In the words of Isaac Newton, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Chelsea's
management would certainly concur with this law of motion as the sale of veteran center-half
Ricardo Carvalho to Real Madrid is bound to result in new faces heading to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have reportedly received €8 million for allowing the Portuguese defender to complete

Fulham boss Mark Hughes has conceded that there is no point in keeping want-away Australian
goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer at Craven Cottage but unless he finds an adequate replacement, the
37-year old will have to stay.
An adequate replacement doesn't seem to be all that far away. Manchester City's Shay Given is
equally intent on moving away from his current club as the emergence of Joe Hart has left the
former Newcastle player as the second-choice at the Eastlands.

It's often a question that football fans can never really answer, but why do certain players
seem quite happy to sit on the bench? More often than not players are always wanting to play, so
transfers to clubs where the opportunities are limited always confuses the fans. For example, one
particular player is currently trying his very best to escape from Stoke City for no obvious
reason.

Analysis: West Ham might be keen to hold on to Cole, but it's safe to say that
Liverpool can't live and die by the Torres if they're to be taken seriously this season.
