On the heels of striker Noh Alam Shah moving from Tampines Rovers to Arema Malang, Woodlands Wellington defender Precious Emuejeraye signed with Sriwijaya FC on Wednesday.

"[Woodlands] knows about this signing and have agreed to release Precious to Sriwijaya after his contract ends on November," said Onana Jules, the player's agent, on Thursday.

The close season isn't my favourite time of the year. Stories switch from on the field to off it and often come through second or third hand sources. With no action people have to elsewhere for their fix and of course that means gossip.
Hardly a day goes by without one of the Indonesian sports tabloids linking a Singaporean or Thai with clubs here.

Rahmad Darmawan, the Sriwijaya coach who has led his side to three trophies in the last two seasons, is considering his options regarding the two Asian players he can use to complete his squad for next season.
Under the new regulations teams in the ISL can have three foreigners plus two Asian players.

A few local types in Canberra complain and rant about girls from Dubbo getting a go in the Canberra United W-League team.
Their logic is clearly flawed in my view. So only players from a town or city which has a W-League team can play for that team. Should we kick out Ulladulla's Cian Maciejweski, Albury born Amy Chapman and Albury resident Ellie Brush or do the rules not apply for them?

Duric - 人在江湖,身不由己? (whose existence in the team beyond his control?)
A colleague of me (whom I call him "阿兄"- "Big Brother" in Teochew dialect) offered a different perspective on the current state of the national team a few days ago.
"We need a complete overhaul of the system.

With Peter Reid taking up the assistant manager position at Stoke City, Thailand FA set out in search of the best candidate to replace him. That search ended with the hire of Bryan Robson, the current global ambassador for Manchester United.
While Robbo has been the most outstanding player of his generation, he has yet to prove himself to be a top class manager.

There aren't many 'Asian' players doing their thang in Indonesia. Robbie Gaspar, Aussies are the new Asians, has just signed for Persema after a few seasons with Persiba is perhaps the best known.
Then there is Yusuke Sasa. The Japanese midfield player last season played with Persikad Depok in the Premier League.

After a few weeks when it seemed hardly a day went by without an Indonesian team being linked with players from Singapore or Thailand now all seems quiet.
Sriwijaya, seemingly linked with every player in south east Asia, are now considering a 35 year old Liberian striker named Maker. A far cry from the likes of Noh Alam Shah, Teerasil Dangda, Agu Casmir and Theerathep Winothai who had previously been linked with the Palembang side.

I guess the former Persija striker failed his trials in Europe. Now his agent is bigging up his move to Sriwijaya despite earlier reports that indicated the Copa winners already had their three foreigners. If a move to Palembang fails there's always Persiba...
But then this story has Anoure Obiora being replaced by Persija's central defender Herman Abanda saying it's difficult to find Asian players?

My guess is Melbourne or Sydney now. Melbourne have been able to bar far too many good players. How do they get them all within the cap. Well of course they don't. Special deals to allow Muscat to be paid outside the cap because he is really a or the coach - or neither. $1m transfer deals. And wow 2 great Asian players.

In years gone by, I've attempted to provide a separate preview for all of the A-League clubs prior to the season. This time, with ten teams now taking part and the various pre-seasons being played out a little more obscurely, it's a tough ask, so herewith a quick ramble about the whole lot on the eve of A-League Mark 5.
