PRAGUE — UEFA president Michel Platini says he's OK with the idea of shifting the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to winter from summer to avoid extreme desert temperatures. After a UEFA executive committee meeting in Prague on Friday, Platini said it would be easier to organize the World Cup in January, instead of June.

After digesting all the stories of what happened with England and the USA's bids for their respective World Cups, it was time to bring out my opinion on what the hell happened on Thursday, December 2. I had a bad feeling that the FIFA executive committee failed football fans around the world and us here in the United States.

Dangers to fans and players have prompted the Asian Football Confederation to urge FIFA to reschedule the 2022 World Cup to January or February in order to avoid the scorching 40 degree summer heat in Qatar.
AFC General Secretary Peter Velappan also believes European countries may boycott in protest at the dangerously hot temperatures and that the proposed air-conditioned stadiums are not enough.

I see on the Asian Football Confederation website there are links to .pdf copies of official programmes/brochures for the Knock Out stage and the Final of the AFC Champions League.

Earlier in the year I managed to pick up a copy of the programme for the group stage, more by luck than chance and I also have a copy from last season's group stage but it would be nice if these fine brochures were made more widely available rather than just being distributed to a select few.

It could be argued that Persipura missed out on last season's Indonesia Super League because their near impregnable home stadium of Mandala Stadium in Jayapura was undergoing renovations so that it would meet Asian Football Confederation criteria for hosting Asian club football.

Their opening home games were played in Makassar, vital points were dropped and they missed out on a second consecutive title.

With MLS announcing that they will have a dedicated scout looking into the AFC, and specifically working with the San Jose Earthquakes at the J-League Free Agent Combine, it is time for the Sounders, or at the least MLS, to go after this youngster hard. There's a reason I launched the Searching for a Free post with him.

We're not in Qatar any more: A worker clears snow from the roof of the Veltins-Arena soccer stadium in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, just before Christmas (AP Photo).
It figures that as the East Coast continues to dig out from its winter weather woes (I'm assuming MLS would be done by now, even if it were to move to a fall through spring schedule) and even usually temperate England debates (yet again) a winter break from soccer that there are even more voices suggesting the 2022 World Cup be moved from the scorching summer months in Qatar.

In the last four years Indonesia have hosted three major footballing tournaments. The Asian Football Confederation and the ASEAN Football Federation seem to like having Indonesia as host because they put bums on seats.
In 2007 Indonesia was one of four hosts of the Asian Cup. In 2008 they hco held the AFF Cup and again this year.
