Remember the Socceroos at the World Cup in Germany 2006. How could you forget one of Australia's
greatest sporting moments?
How many Canberrans played against Carl in his junior days. Maybe beat him in a sprint or a tackle,
maybe even nutmegged him.
Well Canberra's Carl Valeri, the former Tuggeranong United junior, is crucial to Australia's hopes
to get to South Africa 2010.

to play against Lebanon's SAFA FC in the away match of the AFC Cup quarter-final tie in
September.
Perak, whose players have gone without salaries for nearly four months now, have made appeals for
funds to the state and the FA of Malaysia (FAM) but they have not received replies.
There is nothing more predictable that our media focussing on the negative.
Yesterday the Asian Football Confederation released their restructure of the AFC Champions League.
The restructure itself is overdue, the format of the current competition is poor. Allowing only the
top team of each group passage to the knockout rounds results in the situation we saw last night
where the group winner has been decided before the final round and no one has anything to play for
except pride.
With the team's 3-0 victory over Thailand, Japan advanced into the 4th round of the Asian Football
Confederation's qualifying stage for the 2010 World Cup. Only 4 or 5 nations from Asia will qualify
for the next World Cup that will be held in South Africa.
Joining Japan in the 4th round so far are the nations: Australia, Bahrain, both Koreas, Uzbekistan,
Saudi Arabia, and Iran.
