Nagoya Grampus fly the flag for Japan

When the draw for the AFC Champions League group stage was made back in December 2008, few tipped unheralded Japanese side Nagoya Grampus as potential title contenders.
The general consensus was that Dragan Stojkovic's team had been lucky to sneak into third place in the J. League, and thereby qualify for the Asian Football Confederation's recently revamped continental jamboree.

Kiatisuk counts cost of failure

AFC (Asian Football Confederation)

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) governs the footballing community of Asia and also now includes Australia, but it doesn't include a number of Asian (or part-Asian) countries, who are part of UEFA. The headquarters are located in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

The AFC was formed in 1954 (believe it or not on the sidelines of a game), by Afghanistan, Burma, Republic of China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea Republic, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore & Vietnam.

Canberra has produced a number of Socceroos, A-League players and currently has 4 Canberrans in the Joeys squad.
So when they announced the first Under 13 boys Australian team ever....thirty spots mind you..I felt sure with thousands of kids playing football, Coerver Coaching, and various Academy and Clinics around town surely we'd be able to get one or maybe two players into the squad. AFC U-14 Women’s Football Festival

Vietnam will host the AFC U-14 women's Football Festival from June 17 through 30.

The event will attract eight members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) including Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and host Viet Nam.

This year, the Ha Noi women's football club will represent Viet Nam in the event.

There is nothing more predictable that our media focussing on the negative.
Yesterday the Asian Football Confederation released their restructure of the AFC Champions League. The restructure itself is overdue, the format of the current competition is poor. Allowing only the top team of each group passage to the knockout rounds results in the situation we saw last night where the group winner has been decided before the final round and no one has anything to play for except pride.
