Rohit Chand may
finally play in Europe but in different country and different league than speculated. The Ligue 1
i.e. the French A division League Champions Lille OSC have been monitoring the progress of young
Nepalese prospect Rohit Chand.
Both Arsenal and Spurs are expected to run the rule over the classy defender when Nepal face Jordan
in the World Cup 2014 qualifier next week.
Arsenal will battle north London rivals Tottenham for Nepalese teenager Rohit Chand. The
18-year-old, who plays for Indian First Division side Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) SC, is
regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Asian football and is desparate to make the big time in
European football.

Knocking cricket off its perch: The development of football in India is a post from: Just
Football
by Simon Godfrey
In a country which is growing at a rapid rate economically and with a population exceeding 1.2
billion (and growing) two questions arise: 1) what chance there is of football replacing cricket as
the most popular sport in India?
Off to KL to see the Arsenal!
Big stadium, the Bukit Jalil. Was there last year for the Malaysia v Indonesia AFF Cup Final.
Malaysia won that night 3-0 in front of something like 86,000. Check Jakarta Casual TV for a taste
of the atmosphere!
Last time the Arsenal were in South East Asia, they got beat by Thailand 4-3!
The 2011 Chinese Super League has reached the two-thirds stage and the fate of this season's
newcomers Ghangzhou Evergrande and Chengdu Blades is one of stark contrast. The former, who won
promotion last season as League One winners, are the team that currently leads the way in the
Chinese Super League whilst the latter are, like most promoted sides, struggling at the bottom of
the 16 team league.
Kashima Antlers have won the 2010 Emperor's Cup with a 2-1 win in the final against Shimuzu
S-Pulse. The win means that the Antlers have won this competition for the second time in four years
and fourth time overall.
Fellype Gabriel gave Kashima the lead after 26 minutes in the National Stadium, Tokyo, but Frode
Johnsen, a two-goal hero in Shimuzu's semi-final win over Gamba Osaka, restored parity in the 59th
minute.
The 2011 AFC Asian Cup has begun in the Middle Eastern state of Qatar and the hosts participated
in the opening game against Uzbekistan. Unfortunately for the hosts Uzbekistan managed to silence
the home crowd by scoring two second half goals and seal the opening three points of the
tournament. Odil Akhmedov scored a screamer with 57 minutes played, firing home from long range
giving Qatari keeper Qusem Burhan no chance.
The Asian Cup is upon us, and although the sixteen teams represent the best of Asian football,
many of the players will be unfamiliar to American and European fans. Here are ten names that you'd
do well to remember they could well be the stars of the tournament.
Shinji Kagawa (Japan)
Keisuke Honda may be better known after the World Cup, but Kagawa (who missed the final cut for
South Africa) is the one grabbing all the headlines at the moment.

In the latest round of 2011 AFC Asian Cup matches being played in Qatar there were no shocks to
be had as Australia and South Korea confirmed their status as the two top teams in Group C and
progressed to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Australia finished top of the group when defeating Bahrain 1-0 in their final group match which
was played today.
Scout Report – Asian Cup 2011 is a post from: Just Football
Just Football's resident scout Tom Shaw has been busy. Here's his scout
report from the 2011 Asian Cup in Qatar:
International tournaments provide a great opportunity for scouts to watch the top players from
a variety of countries in a high-class, competitive environment.
Brisbane Roar are Hyundai A-League premiers
The Hyundai A-League, Australia's top flight football league, has concluded its regular season
this weekend. The destiny of the Minor Premiership has been in the hands of Brisbane Roar for a few
weeks already as they walked away with the regular season title by eight points from Central Coast
Mariners.
(Media Information from the Football Association of Singapore)
The Football Association of Singapore released the two following media statements pertaining two
separate matters.

I'm delighted to announce that in response to absolutely nobody asking I have added one more site

Asian Football Memorabilia is a look at some of the wacky and fascinating bits and pieces I have
accumulated over the years since I started Jakarta Casual.
No text, it's just gonna be images of tickets, programmes, brochures and souvenirs from South East
Asian clubs; a cornucopia of football memorabilia that has, as far as I'm aware, never previously
been made available before in one place.
A few weeks back I wrote about the guy who had organised competitive football where previously
there had been none in the villages of West Java.
Yesterday was the Grand Final day with all 200 teams and 3,000 kids bussed into Jakarta for their
own Cup Final.
Pictures of the day can be found on Asian Football Pictures while Jakarta Casual TV takes in the
atmosphere of the big day.
The 2-1 comeback win for Denmark against Belarus in Aarhus underlined the
importance of the host nation progressing in a tournament.
While it might be too big a leap of faith to credit Danish Football
Association chief Allan Hansen's claim that the UEFA U21 tournament "has caught the imagination of
the Danish public," - too many of them were enjoying the
Pentecost weekend holiday to watch their Under-21s lose to Switzerland - the Denmark v Belarus
clash was an 18,000 sell-out, double the crowd of any other game so far.
I've probably seen Bangkok Glass more than any other Thai team with the exception of Thai Port.
Yet it could have been more. But, as it says on the tine, this site is a look at South East Asian
football from the terraces. And the pub!
Last year I was in Singapore for the Cup Final. Bangkok Glass were up against Tampines Rovers
and it promised to be a goodie.
Some images from the CLeague can be found on Asian Football Pictures while there is a brief clip on
Jakarta Casual TV from the PPC n Naga Corp game yesterday.
Just been adding plenty of stuff to Asian Football Memorabilia - probably the only site of its kind
devoted to souvenirs and memorabilia from South East Asian Football.
Check out the site for Indonesian, Singapore and Cambodian football shirts, handbooks, programmes
and much, much more.
Could anyone be so sad.

With twelve rounds of matches to play in the Japanese J-League there is an intriguing four way
battle for title honours. Last season's champions Nagoya Grampus Eight are, along with Yokohama
Marinos, just one point behind the top two of Gamba Osaka and Kashiwa Reysol (22 games, 43
points).
Gamba Osaka were involved in the tie of the weekend getting the better of Kawasaki Frontale by
six goals to three with Brazilian Rafinha scoring a hat-trick and helping stretch Gamba's unbeaten
run to seven matches.
Bunyodkor (17 played, 45 points) took a huge step towards a fourth successive Uzbek championship
title on Sunday when defeating arch rivals and nearest challengers Pakhtakor 2-1. The win took the
league leaders a massive nine points of Pakhtakor with just nine matches to play.
With over an hour of the game played it seemed a real possibility that the earlier goalless
score line in the first meeting of the two Tashkent rivals this season would be replicated.
No time for a match report but some pictures from an exciting game can be found on Asian Football
Pictures.
Basically Philippines took the lead, Laos went 2-1 up then the Philippines scored two very late
goals to secure the win
Kashiwa Reysol and Al Sadd have booked their semi-final places in the FIFA Club World Cup
following hard fought victories over Monterrey CF and Esperance Tunis respectively.
Kashiwa, representing the host nation Japan as the 2011 J-League champions, needed a penalty
shoot-out to get past North and Central American champions Monterrey after the two teams had played
out a 1-1 draw.
Kashiwa Reysol's FIFA Club World Cup dream ended today at the hands of South American champions
Santos FC. Neymar was amongst the goals for the Brazilians as they claimed a 3-1 win against the
J-League champions whilst earlier in the day North and Central American champions Monterrey CF won
the 5th/6th place play-off, getting the better of African champions Espérance Tunis by the odd
goal in five.
It may not have been the most difficult challenge that FC Barcelona would have to face in their
quest to become FIFA Club World Cup winners. That, however, did not dampen the celebrations as the
Spanish and European champions strolled their way past a poor Santos FC team courtesy of a 4-0
victory.
Several weeks ago, when this video was made, no one gave a flying oil drum about Qatar and its
relationship to football not, at least, in the mainstream world. Now it appears they won't be able
to get away without several million journalists masquerading as white-glove inspectors, turning
over each and every move they make from now until 2022.
The Middle Eastern country of Qatar is still on a high following its successful bid to host the
2022 FIFA World Cup. This month the oil rich country has the opportunity to showcase itself to the
world and prove that its victory was justified when it hosts the 15th edition of the AFC Asian Cup,
the first time it has held this event since 1988.
DOHA, Qatar With their graduation into Asia complete, the Socceroos are about to find out if they
really belong at the top of the class. Having completed a full World Cup cycle since joining the
confederation in 2006, Australia have become well versed in the intricacies of Asian football,
leaving no room for excuses [.

Iman Mobali scored Iran's winner
With each team having played their opening game of the 2011 AFC Asian Cup the tournament's group
phase will begin to get interesting from here. Stoppage Time looks back at the competition
so far and previews the next round of matches.
Group D began today with defending champions Iraq facing their neighbours and old adversaries
Iran.
Dr. Joel Rookwood'January 2011 is the month which will see Australia crowned kings of Asian football in Qatar' - a
bold statement to offer up at the start of a competition (and an article), and one I will stand by,
at least until they get knocked out in a semi final penalty shoot out that is.
An Italian walks into a bar in Tokyo and asks for a local brew, but not wishing to disappoint,
the barman discreetly pours the visitor a Peroni instead.
It's a plausible scenario in a country like Japan, where citizens are eager to please and
equally desperate to avoid criticism.
Perhaps that's why the Japanese press were quick to turn a blind eye to another poor performance
from the Samurai Blue at the Asian Cup in Qatar, as Alberto Zaccheroni's men laboured to a 2-1 win
over a spirited but technically inferior Syria.
The English are known for their eccentricities. Stamp collecting is so passe for them. So is
collecting football programmes. The English have this breed of people called anoraks who are
absolute nutters. I remember on time going on a football special to Leicester (normal behaviour,
nothing extreme there) and there was this nutter who was tape recording the sound of the train
doors closing!
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — The king of Saudi Arabia has fired the country's football federation
president following the national team's disappointing performance at the Asian Cup. A statement
from King Abdullah's office on Saturday says Sultan bin Fahd bin Abdul-Aziz has been removed from
his post and replaced by Prince Nawaf bin Faisal bin Fahd [.
In the 2011 AFC Asian Cup today hosts Qatar join Group A table-toppers Uzbekistan into the
quarter-finals of the competition. Uzbekistan needed only a point from their game against China to
secure progress whilst Qatar needed all three points in their final group game against Kuwait.
Hosts Qatar were desperate to go beyond the group stage in their second hosting of this
tournament and they started their game against Kuwait in fine fashion scoring twice in the first
quarter of an hour.

There were eight goals in the final two Group B games in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup and the results
determined who would meet up with Group A's top two, Uzbekistan and Qatar, in the next round.
Japan sealed top spot in Group B turning over Saudi Arabia by five goals to nil. The Japanese
went for it straight from the first whistle and were duly rewarded with a 3-0 lead in the first
twenty minutes thanks to a brace from Shinji Okazaki and a strike from Ryoichi Maeda.
