Rafael Benítez saw his Inter team beat Seongnam 2-0 in Abu Dhabi
At least one team called Inter has made the final of the FIFA Club World Cup this year. European
champions Internazionale FC did what their South American counterparts SC Internacional were unable
to do and reach the showpiece game of the tournament which takes place on Sunday.
UEFA Champions League holders Internazionale FC of Milan are the new FIFA Club World Cup winners
having defeated surprise package TP Mazembe of Africa by a 3-0 scoreline in Abu Dhabi this evening.
Goals from Goran Pandev, Samuel Eto'o and late substitute Jonathan Biabiany sealed the deal for the
Nerazzurri and gifted coach Rafael Benítez with his second trophy as coach of the
Milanese giants having won the Italian Super Cup at the start of the season.
Malaysia have qualified for their first AFF Suzuki Cup final since 1996
Malaysia and Indonesia have qualified for the final of the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup, the tournament
for south east Asian nations, after both teams overcame defending champions Vietnam and the
Philippines in their respective semi-finals.
Soraya Soemadiredja, Manila.
South-East Asia is football mad, and collectively one of the largest consumers of European
football* in the world. This December, it's all about Asia though, and we'll see all the big names
in their region performing for their countries.
Nguyen Vu Phong was on target for Vietnam in their 1-0 win over Singapore
The semi-final line-up is now complete following the conclusion of Group B in the AFF Suzuki
Cup, the tournament for south east Asian nations, today. Defending champions Vietnam squeezed into
first place following a narrow win over Singapore.
Make no mistake this was a superb performance by Malaysia. But it also highlighted Viet Nam's
frailities in front of goal as they huffed and puffed then gave the ball comfortably to Malaysian
keeper Khairul Famri.
Beating Myanmar 7-1 is one thing but Viet Nam, highly fancied by many, have since struggled
against the Philippines, lost 2-0, Singapore, won 1-0, and these two semi finals against
Malaysia.

In a story that was first announced by Arsenal blog Young Guns in August,
Arsenal have finally confirmed the signing of Japanese forward Ryo Miyaichi. It
was a great birthday present for the young player as he signed his contract with the Gunners on his
18th birthday.
The 2010 J-League champions Nagoya Grampus Eight are out of this year's Emperor's Cup. The main
knockout tournament in Japanese football plays its final three rounds this week and Stoppage
Time International Football Blog reviews the quarter-finals which were played today.
The Emperor's Cup grants a berth to the 2011 AFC Champions League for the winner so there was a
lot at stake in each of today's last eight showdowns.
The AFF Suzuki Cup final, second leg, was held in Indonesia's capital of Djakarta today and for
the hosts it proved to be too much of a difficult task to come back from the three goal deficit
they had suffered in the first leg against Malaysia three days ago.
After a goalless first half there wasn't much hope left among the home fans of a fightback and
the fears were confirmed just nine minutes into the second half when the tournament's top scorer,
Mohd Safee Sali, opened the scoring getting his fifth goal of the competition and gave Malaysia a
4-0 aggregate lead.
The final of the 2010 Gulf Cup will be played on Sunday following the conclusion of the
semi-finals which were played yesterday.
Kuwait had to endure the lottery of a penalty shoot-out before gaining success over opponents
Iraq in their semi-final. In an eventful first half Kuwait took the lead after just sixty seconds
through Bader Al Mutwa but Iraq were ahead just fifteen minutes later with goals from Hawar Mulla
Mohammed and Alaa Abdul Zahra and 2-1 was how it finished at the break.
Have you seen Sydney FC recently?
Well the clowns pretending to be a sophisticated, move evolved football club down south are no
better are they?
Australia's two most successful A-League sides domestically at least, will head into the
prestigious Asian Champions League - a competition boosted by a Qatari side next year, leave it
alone - heading for a disastrous campaign.
FC Seoul have won the 2010 K-League championship following a 4-3 aggregate victory in the final
and means that they have won their fourth league title following triumphs in 1985, 1990 and
2000.
With both teams going into the second leg of the final having drawn the first game 2-2 the
stakes were high as the K-League reached its climax for yet another season.

Kuwait have finally claimed their tenth Gulf Cup of Nations title following a tense encounter
against Saudi Arabia in today's final, played in Yemen.
Having last won this competition in 1998 Kuwait were determined to end the long drought and
reclaim a trophy they have won more than anybody else.
For the second year running the FIFA Club World Cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates and
it looks like being yet another thrilling competition. Last year saw 2008-09 UEFA Champions League
holders FC Barcelona narrowly edge out 2009 Copa Libertadores winners Estudiantes de La Plata with
the Catalans needing extra-time to defeat their illustrious Argentinian opponents.
Bryan Robson saw his Thailand team crash out of the tournament
The AFF Suzuki Cup is almost at the business end of the tournament. Group A concluded today with
Bryan Robson's Thailand team going out of the competition having finished third in the group behind
Malaysia and Indonesia.
Indonesia came top of the group at a canter having won all three of their group matches in the
tournament's opening stage.
The FIFA Club World Cup began in Abu Dhabi today with host club Al-Wahda securing their berth in
the quarter-finals of the competition following a 3-0 win over underdogs Hekari United.
The tournament is being held for the second year running in the United Arab Emirates. Following
the disappointment of national representatives Al-Ahli in last year's competition, in which they
lost 2-0 to Oceania champions Auckland City, Al-Wahda were determined not to suffer the ignominy of
going out in the preliminary round and further local interest in this year's tournament.
For as long as I have been living in these parts the term globalisation has been little more than a
buzz word, along with hub and leverage, used by persons of status and power to show what big long
words they know. Like wallpaper very flowery but largely irrelevant.
Perhaps the ASEAN Football Federation Cup is changing that.
TP Mazembe (in black and white stripes) upset Pachuca and hope to do the same to Internacional
on Tuesday
The quarter-final stages have passed in this year's FIFA Club World Cup with African champions
TP Mazembe and Asian champions Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma having made it through to the final four of
the competition where they will meet South American champions Internacional and European champions
Internazionale FC respectively.
North and Central American champions Pachuca CF had their Argentinian striker Dario Cvitanvich
to thank as they ultimately heralded a fifth place finish in their FIFA Club World Cup 5th/6th
play-off match with local favourites Al-Wahda in Abu Dhabi.
The United Arab Emirates champions took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to an Ismail Matar
strike just sixty seconds before the half-time whistle.
The first leg of today's semi-final between Malaysia and Vietnam was played today in the 2010
AFF Suzuki Cup, the competition for south east Asian nations. Vietnam, defending champions from the
most recent tournament in 2008, were away in their first leg match and they were to suffer as
Malaysia took their chances and take a two goal lead to Vietnam in Saturday's second leg.
A 32nd minute strike from Cristian Gonzáles was enough to give Indonesia a narrow 1-0 advantage
in their AFF Suzuki Cup semi-final, first leg match against the Philippines today in Djakarta.
The Philippines, who finished second behind Vietnam in Group B, were supposed to be at home in
the first leg today but were told by the Executive Committee that they had inadequate stadia and,
therefore, were told to play both legs of their semi-final against Group A winners Indonesia in
their opponents' country.
FC Barcelona won the FIFA Club World Cup in 2009
The FIFA Club World Cup final on Sunday sees European champions Internazionale of Milan face up
to their history-making African counterparts TP Mazembe from the Congolese second city of
Lubumbashi. Since coming under outright official FIFA control in 2005, the Club World Cup includes
all of the seven continental champions fighting it out to become officially the world's best club
side.
Wanting three points to return to the top of the Divisi Utama Group A perhaps Persita
underestimated a Bengkulu side who sat 10th in the 13 team division at the start of play with just
one win from their opening seven games.
Both sides had goals disallowed and while Persita shaded the first half their deadly strike
force of Christian Carrasco and Agus Salim rarely troubled the visiting keeper.
The first leg of the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup final was played today in Kuala Lumpur as both
finalists Malaysia and Indonesia set out to win their maiden title in this tournament. However it
seems that Malaysia will get their hands on the trophy following their 3-0 trouncing Indonesia.
Following a goalless first half, the game came into life on the hour mark with Mohd Safee Sali
opening the scoring for the hosts.
The semi-finals of the Emperor's Cup, Japan's equivalent of the FA Cup, were held today and for
Kashima Antlers and Shimuzu S-Pulse the dream of lifting silverware on Saturday became one step
closer to reality with wins over FC Tokyo and Gamba Osaka respectively.
Kashima Antlers had to come from behind in order to force extra-time in their semi-final
match-up.
