If you've been watching BBC3 of late, you'll notice the adverts for the Confederations Cup, which is due to start tomorrow. If you're like me, you've probably been asking...what exactly is it?

How many teams are there? How long does it last for? Who has won it previously? They are not questions I would be able to ask with entire confidence.

Is there any reason why the ACL final is played in Tokyo? Beyond the fact probably that they bid the most, they provide most of the sponsors, they are the best organisers and the wives of the senior officials can enjoys a few days shopping in Japan.
But beyond that and in footballing terms why is the final there?
