Well, not here on this very computer screen, that would be just silly. But it will start,
officially, in Canberra this week with the first Matildas camp in 2010. While Tom Sermanni had
close to 40 players in some camps last year, he's about to start whittling down to find his A-team
that he hopes will qualify for the 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany.

This is the first time that Indonesia failed to qualify for the final round of the Asian Cup
since 1992. And it is not going too well with the Indonesian football fans.
An Indonesian fan, Hendri Mulyadi, ran out to the pitch, picked up the ball from Oman's half,
went on a run down the wing, dribbling and entering the 18 yard area and took a shot at goal which
was successfully stopped by the goalkeeper.
Thanks to Negar Mottehedeh, and via a post from Enduring America, here are two videos from a
January 6th game between Iran and Singapore, during which Iranian fans chanted anti-government
slogans "Ya Hossein, Mir Hossein," in support of opposition leader Mousavi in the 1st video, and
"Marg Bar Dictator," ("Down with the Dictator,") in the second.
Oh dear, he's at it again.
And rarely has even Craig Foster penned such illogical, insulting drivel. The lengths to which the
SBS brains trust will go to denigrate the local game, while twisting the facts to exculpate the
Dutch brigade, is extraordinary.
Each time a home-based side has played an Asian Cup qualifier the performance has been
concerning.
Persik v Persema 2-1 (Yongki Aribowo, Saktiawan Sinaga; Robbie Gaspar)
Yongki Aribowo never scored during Indonesia's disasterous SEA Games last month but he has been
doing the business for his club side since his return. His close range header against East Java
rivals Persema set the home side on the way to three points right on half time.
Japan is the second national team I am reviewing after Cameroon in my series about the 32
countries participating in the World Cup in South Africa. Japan is in Group E along with the
Netherlands, Cameroon and Denmark. Japan doesn't have a long history in this competition having
qualified only 4 times in 18 World Cups (counting the one in South Africa).
Persib Bandung will play Persija Jakarta next Saturday, 9 January, at the Jalak Harupat Stadium in
front of an empty stadium. Officials are woried about the potential for trouble when these two
teams meet with a deep hatred polarising the two sets of supporters.
The notion of all ticket matches has yet to catch on here.
So here we go again - back to good old fashioned blogging. It's certainly a different pace from
regular country journalism, though FP has missed it.
Now where were we? Oh yes that's right - Perth Glory.
Ever since FP left for his south-bound junket, the Glory seem to have slipped off the pace.
Doha, Qatar, 4 January

On the eve of the crucial Asian Cup Qualifier tie against one of Asian football powerhouses - Iran,
national midfielder Hariss Harun shares his thoughts on tomorrow's game.
Hariss is an ambassador for the Nike RED campaign
Hi Hariss, thanks for taking the time out of your busy training schedule to speak to us.
Here is a play-by-play account of the 2011 Asian Cup Qualifier at Rajamangala Stadium between
Thailand and Jordan. The kick off was delayed by 30 minutes, presumably because of the pre match
downpour, which meant the pitch was very wet, and not easy to play on.

I came to realize the recent comment by the MM does actually makes sense.
Don't draw your guns at me because I'm not referring to those content of those comments, but I
drawn this conclusion after a brief chat with a co-worker of my over the discussion of the upcoming
Lions' Asian Cup Qualifier fixture against Iran.
Australia drew 2-2 with Kuwait in the latest qualifying game for the 2011 Asian Cup. A win would
have been good but a draw is a good result. The first half was game of two halves. Before the
game was even five minutes old, Australia already had a 2-0 lead. Luke ...
In the world of Indonesian football it don't get much bigger than Persib Bandung against Persija
Jakarta and today the struggling giants of the game will do battle at the Jalak Harupat Stadium in
Soreang.
Citing security concerns the game will be played without spectators which is disappointing but
given the crowd control ability of the local officials understable.
Chunnam Dragons ( 남 드래곤즈) is a football club founded in 1995 in the Korean city of
Gwangyang. The club joined the K-League for the 1995 season. Chunnam's most successful K-League
season came in 1997 when they finished as runners-up in the league and in the Asian Cup winners
cup. Yesterday, Chunnam Dragons presented their Jako home, away [.
Thailand opened their King's Cup campaign against Singapore, at the King's 80th Birthday
Anniversary Stadium, in the City of Korat. The Stadium looked packed, and the atmosphere was
electric. It certainly made a change from playing in a half empty Rajamangala Stadium!
The first fixture of the day was Poland vs Denmark, with the Danes winning 3-1.
Last season's Super League Champions Persipura are just a month away from their first foray into
the AFC Champions League. With their Mandala Stadium in Jayapura being renovated at the moment they
will be forced to play their home games in the group stage at the Bung Karno in Jakarta, their ISL
games being played in Makassar.
The Asian Football Confederation appears to be still looking for a challenger to Australia's
application to host the 2015 Asian Cup; the continent's major sporting tournament. Australia was
the only country to put in an intensive bid to host before AFC's original March 2008 deadline and
an AFC delegation carried out a formal inspection of the country's prospective stadiums and
facilities in
So by now, I'm sure all you female football fans have heard the great news. If you haven't already
over at The Women's Game, SBS, the ABC, the AFC or others that are covering the news, this year the
Matildas will start to recieve match payments and have new and improved contracts with Football
Federation Australia.
Alfred Riedl is no stranger to South East Asia. The Austrian coach has spent much of the last 10/12
years coaching the Vietnam national squad and helped lay the groundwork for their 2008 AFF Cup
success.
Last December he guided hosts Lao to respectablity in the SEA Games and now he has spend the last
couple of days in Jakarta being interviewd by the FA about the vacant position of Under 23 coach.
