Many have called Group A as the group of death but this Group E is the real one as will be shown in
this live online and radio commentary World Cup 2010 qualifier between Syria and Iran live where
both teams have as much chance to get through as every other team in the group. The Syrians will be
focused on this live online streaming match at home and hope to get another three home points to
negate their collapse in the previous game.
Kyah Simon and Emily Van Egmond score for Australia....
"It was a much better performance today. The score was 3-3 which isn't much different to the
other day (Young Matildas lost 4-3 on Wednesday) but the quality of play was much better today.
Kyah Simon (2) and Emily Van Egmond scored the goals, but we dominated for maybe 70% of play today.

I thought, having seen the wilting Socceroos in the Asian Cup last year, the great thing about Sunday mornings loss to Iraq was how mobile (relatively) we were in the second half.
And the FFA have an interesting interview with Socceroos Strength and Conditioning Coach Darren Burgess on their website.
Can you spot the Matildas in the photo and not just the Wannabee's
Wannabee's Matildas flocked to show their skills to World Cup hero Caitlin Munoz and Asian Cup star
Amy Chapman on a cold Friday night at Dickson Oval.
The usual training session was taken by not one, but two, of Australia's star players.
I recall many conversations with European friends who would often remark that once America (with
its 300 million people) went crazy for soccer, we could become a dominant force. I usually reminded
them that if it were purely a matter of population size, India and China would be wiping the floor
with all of us.
The Maybes The following players should earn caps during the course of the career. The question is
more how many and how significant their contribution to the Socceroos will be. Mark Milligan - Did
Mark Milligan's Socceroo career reach its peak with his selection for the 2006 World Cup and his
involvement in the 2007 Asian Cup?
Thailand's King's Cup will be held next January between the AFF Cup and the Asian Cup Qualifiers.
With the team going to Hanoi next month for the Agribank Cup new coach Peter Reid is hitting the
ground running.
The Thais have also appointed Tawan Siripin as Reid's assistant. Tawan was the first Thai player I
came across during the dream team era of the mid 90's and it's good to see his experience is being
put to good use.
Watching the Turks today rip the spleens out of the Croatians has restored my faith in the
anything-can-happen aspect of this wonderful sport. I was watching with my sons and when Semih
Senturk fired that equalizer all three of us let out loud LOUD screams of surprise and amazement.
Not having a dog in that hunt, we felt terrible for the Croats, amazed at the Turks and, speaking
for myself, are those Turks straight out of central casting or what?
Thailand international Teeratep Winothai is set to become the second player from the ASEAN
champions to join a club in Belgium when the 23-year-old moves to second division side Lierse
SK.
The 23-year-old, currently the leading scorer in the Thailand Premier League with nine goals for
BEC Tero Sasana, will follow in the footsteps of international team-mate Kiatprawut Saiwaeo, who
recently joined Club Brugge on-loan from English Premier League side Manchester City.
Coach Tom Sermanni laid out his plans for the Matildas as they build towards Asia Cup May 2010.
It's a constant battle to improve and keep up to speed with the teams in
Asia.
What goes on in a Matildas Camp?It varies from camp to camp.
This live online and radio commentary World Cup 2010 qualifier between Iraq and Qatar live is the
last match of the group and also the one that will decide who will join Australia in the next round
and at the moment the favourites are the hosts who have a strong edge. They just need to avoid
losing in this live online streaming match and they will be able to carry on the fairytale that
started since they won the Asian Cup last year.
"Only six players from last year's FIFA Women's World Cup campaign are involved in this squad
that will tour China,"said Sermanni

MATILDAS GIVE CHINA A PRE-GAMES WORK OUT
Matildas Coach Tom Sermanni has named an 18-player squad for the Matildas upcoming two match tour
of China in July.
Oman, Kuwait and our near neighbours Indonesia, that's are group for the 2011 Asian Cup.
With the games to start in January on top of the World Cup Qualifiers we're going to need as many
professional footballers are we've got. Keep the games and the players coming.
And with left-back David Carney expected to be named in the Olyroo's Beijing squad today as an
overage player along with Harry Kewell and Archie Thompson, Canberra born Nikolai Topor-Stanley
will face an anxious wait.
AFTER his recent exploits in the ACL and at last year's Asian Cup, a little guttered there'll be no
Yasuhito Endo at the Olympic Games. But for those of you who have been following the exploits of
Uzbekistan's Kuruvchi in the ACL due to the quality of the likes of Djeparov and Kapadze, the news
that they've been linked with Samuel Eto'o sure will have grabbed your attention.
The Malaysian FA gets a torrid time around the region. Last season they stubbornly insisted
Manchester United play a friendly game in KL despite the fact they were hosting the Asian Cup,
Asia's Euro Championships, at the time.
More recently they dusted off the bunting to welcome Chelsea and the chance for officials to beam
on the front pages.
Scott MacDonald, Jade North, Josh Kennedy, Vince Grella, Jason Culina, Mark Viduka, Tim Cahill,
Matthew Spiranovic, Michael Beauchamp, Mile Sterjovski, Bruce Djite. Non of these players started
tonight and don't forget Nicky Carle!
Asia has tested the Socceroos; and Pim Verbeek now has a depth of player few could have dreamed of
after the last World Cup.
Remember last year during the Asian Cup hosted here? During one of the games at Bung Karno there
was a power outtage for about 20 minutes which really showed Indonesia in a good light.
Now we're in the power cut season again with various areas of Jakarta and its neighbours will be
working in the dark for periods of several hours.
Okay I'm only joking and that's the problem.
Queensland announced a 5 games in 5 years deal yesterday. Adelaide are complaining that their city
is missing out.(see below)
But what about Canberra with a heap of Asian Cup Qualifiers coming our way surely Canberra could
bid for a game every two or four years.
Another great article from SBS's Scott McIntrye. I am really enjoying his Asian articles, he has
really opened my eyes to aspects of our new federation I have never considered.
Uzbekistan is a case in point, I can't say I really knew anything about this team before the Asian
Cup last year and they surprised me by the quality of football they played.
Don't suppose anyone in Australia has written an assessment of the Matilda's chances at the Asia
Cup, so thought I should. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Asia Cup prediction: Matildas to make the final?
Everyone remembers the World Cup in China. It was only last year; and the Matildas made history by
getting out of their qroup only to lose to Brazil in the quarter finals.
Matilda's World Cup Star Collette McCallum is currently playing her club football for the Pali
Blues in Los Angeles, USA, but on Thursday she will line up against Australia's Olympic conquerors,
North Korea, in the Asia Cup Semi-Final
Speaking from the team's hotel in Vietnam, resting up after the 3-1 defeat to Japan, McCallum
believes the Matildas can beat Cup favourites Korea.

Jo Burgess back for the Peace Cup.
Matildas Coach Tom Sermanni was in open and reflective mood speaking in Vietnam after the Asia Cup.
"Probably for the first time since taking over I found team selection difficult," said Sermanni.
The Matildas came fourth in the recent Asian Cup suffering losses to Japan, twice, and North Korea.

MATILDAS SQUAD BOOSTED AHEAD OF BRAZIL & USA CHALLENGES
>
The Matildas have received a boost with the return of World Cup midfielder Joanne Burgess to the squad that will compete at the prestigious Peace Cup which commences on Saturday.
Interestingly despite some relatively heavy losses to Japan and North Korea in the Asia Cup
recently Australia seem to run the World Number 1, USA, close, again and again and again.
Recent 4-3 and 3-2 losses in the US have been followed up by a narrow 2-1 defeat in the Aussies
Peace Cup opener in Korea today.
Heather Garriock and Collette McCallum nominated, but unlikely to win this year I reckon. AFC

KUALA LUMPUR: Two players each from the semi-finalist teams of the recently concluded AFC Women's
Asian Cup figure in the first list of contenders for the coveted AFC Women's Player of the Year
award released by AFC today.
Last week the draw for the 2011 Asian Cup Final Qualifiers was announced. Australia is in a group
with Indonesia, Oman and Kuwait. The upshot of this is 14 matches between September this year and
March 2010. There is talk of there being 2 squads of players to "cope" with this
schedule. What a load of [.
The ISL will continue on through the fasting month this season with games kicking off at 9pm to
allow the players to break their fast and recover from their first meal.
Normally there has been a break but this season given the Independence Cup in Jakarta and the
Merdeka Cup in KL we could have been without domestic football from the end of August till the end
of October and then where would we be?
With four blockbuster World Cup Qualifier's planned for Sydney, Melbourne and maybe Brisbane before
next July, the Asian Cup Qualifier home games of which there are at least two before July, will
possibly go to regional centres.
Adelaide, Perth, Newcastle or Canberra. So why not Canberra? If we bid now, we might get a game.

The new Thai coach Peter Reid started his new job yesterday and what happened? The Thai Prime
Minister only goes and declares a state of emergency after disturbances between pro and anti
government protesters left one person dead.
Reid, who admits to never having seen Thailand play and knowing little about Asian football, will
have just a few weeks to run his eye over national players before the Thai Premier League finishes
next month.
