Australia defeated DPR Korea in the final of the AFC 2010 Asia Cup. With the scores locked at 1-1
after the Aussies had led early, extra-time saw no further goals and the Aussies won the final on
penalties.
And remarkably in the worst sodden penalty spot perhaps ever seen for a Continental final all five
Aussie penalty takers scored.
Anzac Day, then May.
First the Bid Book!
Then Matildas head to China for the Asia Cup. All Aussie games live on ABC TV and of course they
must come in the top three to make the World Cup.
For football, for the Women's game this is a crucial development point. It will be tight and tense
with China and Korea Rep in our group.
You can find out all about the 31 players chosen for the World Cup on every other website in the
country so thought more interesting to fans would be the future, our future and it's starting to
look brighter:
Some players will retire post-South Africa or more likely post-Asia Cup 2011 but the seeds of the
future are being sown and here's how your Asia Cup squad cup could look come January and indeed
your next qualification for the World Cup 2014.
More coverage of the Matildas Asia Cup win than probably any other media outlet in the country,
including Russ Gibbs and Sally Shipards take on things and of course a more interesting and diverse
set of writers about the Aussie game, including all your World Cup stuff than any other
professional outlet.
Australia are sure to win the rights to host the Asia Cup in 2015, we're the only bidders. Although
with the FFA we could still lose that!
And it will be a great tournament, one Australia could win.
But what plonker planning this bid has chosen to sink 6 or more games of this tournament into
Canberra.
Despite the gloom around some A-League clubs and crowds at the start of this season it is, unlike
other codes, the International element of the game that will ultimately save Aussie football and
the Aussie A-League.
The International nature of the game will allow Aussie football, with some smarts, to rebuild and
re-invent itself time and time again.
South Korea will be tough, Bahrain are beatable but we open against India.
And to think Aussies thought the Indians only played cricket.
Over 100,000 regularly attend the Calcutta Derby and with Coerver making in roads among the 200
million middle class, and Chelsea FC's search for a football superstar in India we'd better grab
the chance to beat the World's second biggest nation while we can.

Well it's 12 sleeps 'till the lad and I head on our merry adventure, but just hold the whole World
Cup thought for a bit.
Tomorrow evening in Chengdu, China, the Matildas, Australia's most important women's sporting team,
will be playing to be the Champions of Asia, against North Korea. It's a grand final.
Women's Asia Cup 2010 Final
Matildas v North Korea 1:1
Matildas win 5:4 on penalties after extra time
Oh it was wet and it was muddy
So both sides were playing cruddy
But the stakes were high and the Ozzies were game
And the Matildas laughed at the rain.
Well we've seen it coming for a long time really and this morning revealed what we all know. We're
too slow, too old and have few new players from 2006 other than Brett Holman playing at a level
worthy of making an impact in the World Cup
Our top players our top team is just not where they were four years ago either individually or
collectively.
If 150 medals in the Commonwealth Games isn't enough try this.
The Australian under 20s have won through to the Semi Final of the Asia Cup and as a result
qualified for the World Cup in Columbia next year.
So now those clowns who thought Matthew Leckie or Tommy Oar should have played in that game against
Paraguay on the weekend, put your red noses on.
Aussies beat Paraguay, best Melbourne Derby ever, and Young Socceroos march onto World Cup and Asia
Cup Semi Final.
We don't write for the Australian - we're positive about the Aussie game - always.
Harry gives it to you know who again, Holger is our hero, and SBS will show the World Cup Bid
announcement.
Now the Matildas head off to the Peace Cup in Korea, their first tournament since winning the Asia
Cup and yet they are only taking 19 players for a three game tournament.
With the Socceroos playing just one game in the recent international break, even the All Whites
played two, and recent Socceroos squads sitting on 19 as well the strong Aussie dollar is clearly
not evident at FFA Headquarters.
Landon Donovan is about to get ready for another run at an MLS Cup title with the Los Angeles
Galaxy, but that isn't keeping him from considering his options after the current MLS season.
In an interview with BBC Radio Merseyside, Donovan admitted that he would find it difficult to
turn down a chance to return to Everton, where he spent part of last season on loan.
By Chris Wright
LA Galaxy forward and deadpan virtuoso Landon Donovan has admitted that he is
pining for a return to Everton when the January transfer window 'slams open', after spending a
couple of successful months (ten Premier League games, 2 goals, 3 assists) on loan at Goodison Park
last season.
So Western Sydney are to die on Thursday so we're told. No money. Not when they ditched Canberra
for the West and not now.......leaving Canberra football exactly where?
The fair city of Canberra with thousands of players in it's city walls and surrounding lands still
has not one State Youth team, not one State Premier League team, not one National Youth team and of
course no A-League Youth team.
Yes the A-League is better this year, much better, but that doesn't mean that Sydney and Perth are
any good does it?
So it was hot, it was a "new" pitch for both teams in Parramatta, but it was incredibly boring.
Sydney FC changed half their team this year and got what?
And Mike Cockerill SMH's No 1 Football Writer keeps talking up Alex Brosque, as you know says Mike,
"Holger likes him.
Only Brett Holman is playing in a major European League - Ere Divisie - albeit a second tier league
since the Socceroos marched out in Germany in 2006.
Add Mile Jedinak - maybe - David Carney although he rarely plays at Blackpool and that's it.
Richard Garcia, Scott McDonald and Josh Kennedy have all gain Socceroos selection but they aren't
playing with a top club in a top league - in my view.
Despite the various on going political tensions between Indonesia and Malaysia the two country
share a long history together and indeed it was only the British and Dutch that led to them being
divided.
Malaysia have recieved something like 5,000 tickets for the two group games that will be played at
the Bung Karno Stadium, against Indonesia and Thailand, and will receive slightly more when they
play Lao in Palembang in their final group game.
Can't believe we are going to win the 2022 World Cup, but you always hope don't you.
Should we win?
Hold on to your hats. Watch the corporate dollars rushing to get a piece of the pie. Watch the
reaction from across the country, the other sporting codes, the anti-football lobby etc etc.
This was a difficult match to stick with. I couldn't. Fury have already signalled that they have
benched players for lack of motivation. And now they may have reached a terminal limit.
Perhaps it is restating the strategic case for the Fury?
1. Northern Australia is ignored by the major codes.
MANCHESTER, England — South Korea international Park Ji-Sung's sixth goal of the season sent
Manchester United two points clear at the top of the Premier League table after they beat former
leaders Arsenal 1-0 at Old Trafford here on Monday. United, who also have a game in hand over all
their title rivals, could even [.
Here's the goal celebrations again from the club Stjarnan. It's nothing new but I'm wondering
how long something like this would last in the EPL. Would any club get away with something this
elaborate and if so which players?
Here's the links:

I know it's Christmas so I thought this was a bit of festive cheer, because he really can't be
serious! Freddie Ljungberg has joined Celtic today and the South Korean defender Cha Du-Ri admitted
he was really looking forward to comparing underpants with Freddie! Cha said: "Freddie Ljungberg is
a very famous player and I like [.
In the interest of keeping things light, here are some highlights from the 2009 season of India's
Dancing with the Stars. The winner that year was Baichung Bhutia, the country's most accomplished
footballer. Bhutia is responsible for forming a player's union in India and is a public figure in
the best sense - using his celebrity to raise money for good causes, taking stands on issues that
matter to him (like Tibetan independence), and devoting much time and energy to the development of
resources for Indian soccer players.
