One of our most loyal readers has uncovered the following story. While Columbus was where Stern
John got his start and was where he was most recently linked with a return, Toronto FC is now being
mentioned as his North American destination:
John has had offers to return to cross the Atlantic from one player who was a genuine
Ashton Gate favourite.
Bristol City Football Club is one of two football league clubs in Bristol, England, (the other
being arch rivals Bristol Rovers). They play at Ashton Gate, located in the south-western portion
of the City. Gary Johnson has been the team's manager since 23 September 2005, succeeding Brian
Tinnion. They were promoted to the Coca-Cola Championship [.
The English Football League Cup or Carling Cup as its known continued its round 2 of matches on
Wednesday August 26, 2009. Most of the Premier League teams advanced including Tottenham and Stoke
City while Wigan fell 1-4 to Blackpool. Here's a recap of Wednesday's matches along with video
highlights.
Famed street artist, international man of mystery, and rumored Bristol City fan Banksy has his
hometown all excited not only for the ongoing exhibition at the City Museum and Gallery, but a new
work that showed up on the side of a pub close to Bristol City's Ashton Gate ground just days
before the club's first home match against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Big Story
It's a scenario goal-line technology advocates live for.
On Saturday, everyone believed Crystal Palace's Freddie Sears had made it 1-0 over Bristol City
in the 34th minute when his mid-air strike flew into the net and back out off the stanchion.
Everyone, save referee Rob Shoebridge and assistant Chris Knowles, who adjudged the ball to have
careened off the post.
Big Story
It's not quite what video replay advocates were hoping for, but Michel Platini
is betting the experimental addition of two goal line officials during tonight's Europa
League group stage opener will eventually silence critics and placate fans, managers, and
players tired of diving players and dodgy goal mouth calls like the one made at Ashton Gate last
month.
on a non football related research mission (see photo). But thank god for free wifi - the blog will
go on (or maybe you view that as a bad thing, you smelly jerk). I'm going to try to visit Ashton
Gate for a preseason BCFC friendly but no promises. Otherwise, it's bullshit as usual, a la mode.
That Championship match between Bristol City and Crystal Palace will not be replayed, the Football
League has confirmed, following the so-called goal that never was.
Palace had been looking for a rematch after their striker Freddie Sears had a "goal" ruled out even
though the ball had gone into the net and bounced back out again.
Sometimes, one has to wonder whether this sort of thing follows Neil Warnock around. In 2007,
Sheffield United were relegated on the last day of the season after Carlos Tevez scored an unlikely
winner for West Ham United at Old Trafford. In February 2008, he accused a linesman of celebrating
a goal for Bristol City in a match against his Crystal Palace team.

On December 19th I wrote the Reading Post fan verdict for the match against Bristol City.
Here's the full version before editing.
Brian McDermott took over the reins from the ousted Brendan Rodgers,
and saw his side earn a thoroughly deserved point against Bristol City.
