U.S. Men's National Team forward Charlie Davies is in serious but stable condition at Washington
Hospital Center MedStar Unit after a car accident early Tuesday morning.
A 22-year old woman, identified as Ashley J. Roberta of Phoenix, Md., was fatally injured in the
crash and died on the scene.
£80 million is a lot of money; the debate goes on over whether the world player of the year is
worth it. In the meantime Manchester United has to find someone to replace a midfielder who gets
around 30 goals a season. A tough ask for any manager, but the good news that comes with this is
that Manchester United can now afford any player in the world.
While the summer months toil away and the transfer rumors get even more boring (or exciting if
you're a Football Manager fan), football fans around the world start to get excited for their
club's upcoming season. Will your club succeed? Will they fail? Will your star player remain
healthy? Who will Joey Barton hit next?
Standout United States striker Charlie Davies was seriously injured in a car accident in Virginia
at 3:15 AM on Tuesday morning. Davies was a passenger in the vehicle along with accident fatality
22-year-old Ashley Roberta. Davies, 23, was airlifted to the Washington Hospital Center in
Washington DC where he underwent several hours of emergency surgery to repair [.
Another day and we have yet more wingers being linked with a move to Man United. After receiving

Cheryl Cole is currently flicking her gorgeous hair around California.
Why? Aside from the importance of spreading good hair-vibes around the world, Cheryl's gone
Stateside to do some work on her solo album with producers like Will.i.am and Bloodshy and Avant

Football scenes you won't see in 09/10, No.1532 The enforced loss of Martin Laursen was
regrettable. The same goes for the departure of Gareth Barry. But the loss of Ashley Young (who you
voted overwhelmingly as Villa's most indispensable...

Ryan Giggs and Ashley Young walk away with trophies Given that I had already had a lengthy rant on
this subject, I was going to try and let the PFA Awards go without too much comment. But the sight
of Ryan Giggs and Ashley Young holding trophies has proven too much. As I have previously said,
Giggs [.
This is one of the most distressing posts that I've had to write on this site. I'm sure you all
know the news by now that US national team striker Charlie Davies was a passenger in a SUV that was
in a horrific one-car accident this morning on the George Washington Memorial Parkway just outside
of Washington DC.
This is why I hate the summer in the world of football. It isn't the lack of football itself,
though that is an unwelcomed aspect of the summer, but it is the rumors that consistently link my
favorite players away from the club. Last summer, the departure of Alonso was an unfortunate rumor
that never seemed to go away.
England players diving.
Wayne Rooney
Steven Gerrard (go to the 50 second mark for best results)
Ashley Cole
I have always maintained with friends that the difference between the English view of diving and
that of some other nations is that English football watching culture is markedly against diving and
views it as cheating, while some other football cultures may see diving as simply part of the game.
US Men's National Team forward Charlie Davies was involved in an early morning fatality accident
outside of Washington, DC. Davies injuries are not considered life threatening.
22-year old Ashley J. Roberta was killed in the accident.
My MFUSA sidekick Jason Davis has a timeline of the events and links to various stories about the
accident.
This week's Quote of the Week comes with some bad news; Charlie Davies, USA International striker,
was in a car accident and received serious injuries. While this news is bad, there is worse, he was
in the car with two other people, one of which died. Ashley J. Roberta, 22, was pronounced dead at
the scene of the crash, the only details on the third person, who was also the driver, are it is a
female.
The list of nominees for the Professional Football Association ( PFA) awards for the 2008-09 season
have been released. The list for the PFA player of the year award is dominated by Manchester
United, with Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard being the only non United player in the six man
shortlist. Nominees for the PFA player of the [.
The 2009 Peace Cup continued on Wednesday with the 2nd semifinal to be decided. Aston Villa
faced Atlante while FC Porto played Besiktas. The semifinals will take place on July 31st in Spain.
Here's a recap along with video highlights.
Aston Villa beats Atlante 3-1 Video Highlights
English club Aston Villa defeated Atlante with two second half goals as they won 3-1 to advance
to the Peace Cup semifinals.
Rafa Benitez blasted Steven Gerrard and Co after Liverpool lost 3-1 at home to Aston Villa.
The Reds suffered their second league defeat in three games, having lost only twice last season
and Liverpool are already six points behind Chelsea after only three games.
Rafa was not happy with Liverpool's performance and said after the game:
"Lucas scored an own goal but Gerrard gave away a penalty and each player will have to analyse a
lot of things.
That's what The Daily Star claims anyway. Basically what they're saying is that Moat can't get the
money together to buy the club but Ashley plans to take the club off the market and appoint him as
chairman. Moat will then apparently appoint Shearer as manager and take charge of the day-to-day
running of the club [.
Eduardo gets his leg stamped on and Taylor gets a 2 match ban.. Dudu takes 18 months to recover.
That is like a ban, only Dudu's only crime was according to MOTD " he was a bit too fast for
Taylor"
Instead of being happy for our little Croatian Gooner to be back playing at the top level and
enjoying what he can bring to English football, the media have picked on him big time.
Fabio Capello may have led England to one of its best starts in a World Cup qualification campaign.
However, as the Three Lions' last outing against European Champions Spain suggests, there is still
a lot of learning to do for Mr. Capello before he gets his starting eleven completely right. At
least I feel this way.
Ten things I noticed from this week's Champions League semifinals:
1. Much Ado About Nothing – Much to the woe of slobbering, over enthusiastic
journalists everywhere, the Barcelona myth was partially debunked on Tuesday. It's not that they
were awful by any stretch of the imagination, but when faced with an equally good team who didn't
stand aside and let them play through them they looked more than a little stumped.
After narrowly missing out on both the FA Cup and Champions League finals, Arsenal fans have been
left to question 'what could have been' — at least until pre-season begins in late July. We
witnessed two ex-players in Sylvinho and Thierry Henry winning the Champions League on Wednesday,
but a former Gunner in Ashley [.
UPDATE: According to the Lancashire Evening Post, Tottenham
boss Harry Redknapp is preparing an offer of David Bently + cash
for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young. The deal would total around
£25million.
Liverpool will be installed as the favourites to sign Aston Villa winger Ashley Young if Xabi
Alonso is sold to Real Madrid.
That move is looking increasingly likely as the Spain international is keen on a switch to the
Bernabeu and a £27million deal could be concluded by the end of the week.
While waiting for the game to start I was having a nose around the Observer's Review section,
and more specifically around an interview with art collector Charles Saatchi. He was asked about
(artist) Mark Rothko and the nature of infinity, and replied as follows:
"My understanding of infinity goes something like this: every 100 years a sparrow flies to the
top of a large mountain, and cleans its beak by scraping it on the highest rock.
I am deeply saddened by the tragic auto accident that took the life of Ashley Roberta and left
Charlie Davies and others with serious (although not life threatening) injuries.
I am really thankful to BigSoccer for giving me a voice that is heard by footie fans the world
over. One of the appeals of the beautiful game is the tribal nature of the fans.
Rolla Bulldogs - 10
Hillcrest Hornets - 0
A tough challenge for the Northside Springfield squad, as they traveled to Rolla on Wednesday to
face the District 10 favorites in a game delayed one day due to field conditions. The game ended on
Ashley Kerr's goal when she followed Olivia Cox's shot from the top of the box.
They Think It's All Over... reacts to a new financial report released about the finances of Premier
League clubs in the 07/08 season and fears for Newcastle's continued existence.
It's Sunday again, and time for some ridiculous reports in the Sunday gossip press, and they have
hardly disappointed us this week, with their stories, which always seem to lack any sense or facts
picky picky. Alan Curbishley is Ashley going to appoint this man as manager? The News Of The World,
which seems to [.
When you think of a club backed by an American billionaire (or two) you think of Liverpool and
Manchester United. It is rare that Randy Lerner's ownership of Aston Villa comes up. But he has
financed a lot of buying of players since he bought the club. And still Villa have a threadbare
squad that will be troubled by the injuries and departures they've suffered this off-season.
Aston Villa Biggest Ins: Stewart Downing should give Ashley Young a run for his money at left
midfield once he returns to full fitness. Fabian Delph is an investment for the future in the
midfield. Habib Beye will provide cover at the back. ...

Trouble at Anfield as Rafa Benitez pointed an accusing finger at Steven Gerrard and his senior
players after Liverpool lost 3-1 at home to Aston Villa.
An own goal by Lucas Leiva and a glancing header from Curtis Davies gave Villa a 2-0 interval
lead before Fernando Torres pulled one back for Liverpool in the 72nd minute.
Brad Friedel had a strong showing in goal for Aston Villa on Monday, stopping ten shots on the way
to a 3-1 win over Liverpool. The home side put Villa up courtesy of an own goal in the 34th minute,
and Curtis Davies made it 2-0 just before halftime. Liverpool's Fernando Torres scored in the 72nd,
but it was Villa's night with Ashley Young converting a 75th minute penalty.
Liverpool succumbed to a 3-1 loss at Anfield on Monday evening when a flurry of costly errors were
capitalized on by Aston Villa.
A Lucas Leiva own goal, coupled with a Curtis Davies header and an Ashley Young penalty saw the tie
swing in Martin O'Neill's men's favour, and Fernando Torres' strike to bring the tie to 2-1 was
insufficient to spark the comeback that Rafael Benitez craved.
Oh the joy of the British press.
"I like that [focus on the diving problem], I believe that is a quality in this country. In
some countries it is a quality to dive. I'm still more proud to be part of England where they fight
against it.
"But there are other points that are for me more urgent.
After reading Stardust's "Red Bus" post recently... I had in mind to do a moment by moment
de-construct of Ashley's two year term. Then Hugh posted, what I consider to be, one of the finest,
most considered, most literate blogs I have ever read on Ashley's tenure, making most of what I'd
planned to say [.
