Chris Hughton claims he will fight to improve Newcastle United's squad in the January transfer window. Since being made permanent manager it seems many people think he'll just be a 'yes man' a puppet and apologist for Ashley's regime but Hughton was keen to dispel such rumours, indicating that he's strong enough to get [. Newcastle United Blog - NUFC news, blogs and debate. 06 November @ 05:43 AM EST
Chris Hughton has asked Newcastle United fans to put their disagreements with the board behind them and support the team. Soccerblog 05 November @ 11:46 PM EST

I weep for the Newcastle fans who have to put up with this execrable name. How about MikeAshleydumbass@StJames'Park while we are at it?

I remember living in Miami when they renamed Joe Robbie stadium, home of Miami Dolphins as Pro Player Stadium which I thought was soulless but inoffensive.

Mike Ashley Starts Selling The Soul Of Newcastle United

Twohundredpercent 28 October @ 07:40 PM EST

There comes a point at which inept management crosses an invisible rubicon and passes into something even more depressing and worrying. There can be little arguing with the case for the prosecution. Ashley's time in charge of the club has been an unmitigated disaster. He oversaw relegation from the Premier League when the club had the fifth highest wage budget, has managed to almost the entire support of the club and managed to fail to sell the club when it had a buyer which seemed keen to tie up a deal to secure the purchase of it from him.

Thick Skinned Or What?

For Girls Who Can't Do Football 28 October @ 02:48 PM EST
I like people who are prepared to show a bit of courage now and then and stand up to the crowd.
I have no problem with people being prepared to make unpopular decisions if their motives are good and they have really thought through the consequences.
But I am equally clear that there is a difference between this and simply being thick-skinned. Click to continue reading...

It isn't my intention to steal the MMM's thunder but I figured I'd throw out a few observations from my weekend of watching a pretty crazy amount of footie... 1. Mr Charisma Chris Hughton Offered Newcastle Job

You see that great big ditch down there? The one big enough to swallow St. James's Park? That's how far my heart sank when I heard the news that Chris Hughton was offered the manager's job on a permanent basis.

Firstly, this is a huge backwards step and reeks of the lack of ambition wafting out from the Gallowgate.

Aston Villa 2-1 Chelsea - 17 October 2009 - Goals

SoccerLens 17 October @ 10:08 AM EST

Aston Villa overturned the odds and the form book to beat Chelsea 2-1 after going a goal down early in the game. It was Chelsea's second away defeat and the shoddy defending on display will certainly raise questions at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea had taken the lead when Brad Friedel failed to deal with a long-range effort from Didier Drogba, but they failed to capitalise and conceded goals from set plays either side of half time.

Innocent Victims

The Fake Sigi Schmid Blog 15 October @ 07:28 PM EST
From Dan:
The nature of sports being what it is, the greater outpouring of sympathy was for the one who survived ... but fan tributes aren't really equipped for innocent victims. A simple jersey number was enough for a very moving tribute for a recovering player, but a soccer game is an impossible context to show adequate respect for Ashley Roberta and her family's loss.

You can't separate out the emotional aspects of this week, because the emotions caused and overwhelmed the actual events.
