Last week, Alan Pardew joked that he didn't care if Arsenal won 4-0 this week, so there has been much debate about whether Pardew's Newcastle team will actually turn up and fight Arsenal for the three points today after securing their Premiership survival last weekend.
But today it has now been reported that the Toon owner Mike Ashley has set aside a MILLION POUND bonus to be shared amongst the non-playing and coaching staff at the club if they can galvanise the team to win their final game at St James Park.
It was not that long ago that Toon Army were up in arms over Mike Ashley and the Cockney Mafia's running of Newcastle United. But over the last couple of years Ashley has retreated to the background and let the football people run the club. No surprise then, that Newcastle's fortunes have turned up since Ashley let go of the reins.
There is a report in the Newcastle Journal, Â that while the team is in the Algarve Stadium, Faro,
Portugal playing Olympiacos and FC Braga on Friday night and Saturday night respectively,Â
Newcastle will kick-start their moves for three players, in an effort to strengthen Alan Pardew's
squad for next season.

1. This was the perfect match to lull England into a false sense of security ahead of the Montenegro match. 2. Great to see Joe Hart back to his best after some shaky form. 3. San Marino's best performer was the stadium announcer, who undermined all the England egos by reversing their names as if [..
Merriam-Webster defines "mercenary" as "having or marked by an eager and often selfish desire especially for material possessions." Arsenal fans recall the Ashley Cole saga. In 2005, Ashley, his agent, and several Chelsea honchos met at a hotel to discuss his footballing services. He did not inform Arsenal of the meeting, the word "tap up" took on a whole new meaning, and he was fined.
Mike Ashley cannot win for trying. Over the last couple of years he has moved into the background at Newcastle United and let Alan Pardew and his staff run the football side of the club. The results have been terrific, and recently Ashley rewarded Pardew for his efforts, buy giving him and his staff new eight-year contracts.

When Manchester United traveled to Istanbul to play Galatasaray in 1993, they were greeted at the airport by a mob holding "welcome to hell" signs that Sir Alex Ferguson describes as "quite frightening." On Monday, they avoided the terminal packed with flare-wielding fans and riot police (videos below) by taking an alternate, underground exit, but they didn't avoid the pre-matchharassmentof Gala supporters entirely.
Poor Aston Villa. After assembling a half decent squad with some top youngsters ready to make
their way through, they only go and employ the hapless manager who relegated their biggest rivals,
plays dull football and dragged them down the table.
Damian Dugdale, from The Villa Blog, has looked ahead to the coming season.

La Liga: Falcao batters Bilbao as Real Madrid stumble again is a post from: Just Football

The rumours of a loose lion stalking the streets of Essex proved to be false but over in Madrid,
a group of lions were being savagely mauled by a falcon; or Radamel Falcao GarcÃa

Olympics: What lessons for Spain after first round failure? is a post from: Just Football
by Ashley Escobar
Hear that? That's the quiet disturbing cooing of smug laughter leaking out of English faces.
"The Spanish are OUT of the Olympics!" As some struggle to restrain themselves from jumping for
joy, others stand smugly smiling, their eyes saying "we told you so".
While we have already gone over the Fulham game in quite some exhausting detail, there were some
finer points that I felt got missed in the general excitement of the 'Ohmigood RvP, ohmigoood
Kagawa, ohmigoood, Rooneeey, not funnyyy, blood-uh' moments that the match is primarily remembered
for. So here is your dose of the more nuanced, previously-unnoticed points from the game on
Saturday:
England are out of the Euro's so I've decided to take a look at which players might be featuring
at the next big event, the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
I've picked my selection of players, I've probably forgotten a few but I'm pretty confident of my
choices. The only one I have slight doubt with is Adam Johnson I think he desperately needs games
to reach his potential, Roberto Mancini doesn't seem to be a big fan of his (perhaps his work rate
or ability to track-back) but I think he could be a huge player for the team.
So here it is, the one that all England fans have been waiting for the Quarter Final showdown
between England and Italy with the winner set to face a daunting task of playing Germany in the
Semi-Finals, but first they must focus on this match.
As the tournament has progressed its my opinion that England and Italy are both quite clearly
matched.
"The barber came in and set up his own little shop in Ashley Young's room," said
Welbeck. "Quite a few members of the England staff and players went in. He's had no stick about
it."

La Liga 2012-13: An alternative look at the new season in Spain is a post from: Just

It's back! Like an action movie villain with a bad attitude, La Liga sneaks

fresher still is their epic collapse at the Olympics (see, I told you Wales would win!
Any paranoid England fans who thought that Ashley Young was saving his best penalties for
Manchester United duty can throw away their conspiracy theories. After missing a spot-kick in
England's shootout defeat to Italy at Euro 2012, Young missed again last night as United's
pre-season clash with Barcelona went to penalties.
They often say that things will feel better in the morning, but that can't have been the case for
Ashley Young the day after his missed penalty against Italy. With front and back pages across the
nation showcasing the Manchester United forward's wayward spot-kick, his sponsor Lucozade tried to
hush up any public association with [.
Uefa chose last night's Euro 2012 semi-final between Italy and Germany to introduce their new
'Respect Divers' initiative. Michel Platini and co are fed up with the abuse that is being levelled
at players such as Ashley Young and Cristiano Ronaldo, and are taking decisive action to allow
football's diving community to go about their [.
The Knockout stage of Euro 2012 ended up being somewhat predictable, as long as you take away
the shocking finale of the England/Italy match that went to a penalty shootout. Take that away, and
things are pretty much where they should be. Germany easily did away with the Greeks, a match that
was a one sided affair throughout, while Spain picked up a decisive victory of the French.
It's painful to realize that England was probably a penalty away from winning the semi-final
against Italy. If Ashley Young's penalty had gone under the crossbar, I have no doubt that England
would have gone to win the shootout. The ...

England boss Roy Hodgson hailed his strikers for their goalscoring efforts in England's
thrilling 3-2 win over Sweden, while also confirming that Wayne Rooney will return for the Euro
2012 qualification decider with co-hosts Ukraine on Tuesday.
Despite strikers Andy Carroll and Danny Welbeck scoring against Sweden, Hodgson was quick to
dispel any thoughts that Rooney might have a job getting his place back after serving his two-match
suspension.
England fight back to get the win in Kiev over Sweden, scoring two goals in the second half
after throwing away yet another 1-0 lead. There was little predicting it after the Swedes took the
lead, but Roy Hodgson's squad somehow managed a comeback that was so inconsistent with both the man
and his squad that there's nothing left but to enjoy how often football manages to knock you
completely on your ass.
England's second game in the Euro 2012 championships sees them face Sweden in what many will
have billed a must win match for England already if they want to qualify as group winners ahead of
the likes of France, Ukraine and Sweden.
So far England and France have 1 point, and Ukraine have 3 after beating Sweden in their opening
game.
