Liverpool were eliminated from the League Cup due to a 2-1 loss sustained at Arsenal's Ashburton
Grove home, but Rafael Benitez has insisted that the defeat will not dilute the feel-good factor
that engulfed Anfield following the Manchester United win at the weekend.
Pass-master Fran Merida opened the scoring in the first-half with a long-range effort, but the
visitors levelled the game with an equally impressive shot from Emiliano Insua.
The Swiss stopper Philippe Senderos does not appear to have a future at Ashburton Grove, but Villa
are ready to offer him a new home. Aston Villa are pondering a move for out-of-favour Arsenal
defender Philippe Senderos. Senderos spent last season on loan at Milan, but the Rossoneri declined
the chance to purchase him outright, despite the [.
Liverpool full-back, Emiliano Insua, 20, is looking to add to his midweek goal - a sensational
long-range volley struck against Arsenal in the fourth round of the League Cup at Ashburton
Grove.
The burgeoning Argentinean, who has one international cap, was delighted to ripple the net in the
first half, despite his side going on to lose 2-1 due to a second half Nicklas Bendtner effort.
Arsene Wenger is still too eulogised for my liking in England. The presence of a cerebral
polylinguist with a background in economics at the heart of English club football continues to daze
many a hack, who sum him up with tired labels like 'genius' or 'the professor'.
Make no mistake.
Hark back to 2006. It was the first season at The Grove and despite many more tickets being on sale
on a match-by-match basis, many gooners couldn't get a ticket to watch their club in the plush new
stadium. It was nigh on impossible for Red members to get a ticket.
In those times, we couldn't buy a home draw in the Carling cup.
Football, football, everywhere there is football, and finally, after three agonising days,
footballing of the Arsenal kind has arrived again. The very last Premier League match of the
calendar year would you believe?
From Saturday, we have lost Cesc and I'm assuming Denilson as well, but we've gained Song who
happens to hail from Cameroon, the most wonderful country in the world.

Yesterday I asked for the team to show how good they can be, and they did. The 2-0 scoreline
does Olympiakos a favour, they were under the cosh for 99% of the game and the movement, speed and
creativity you get from Arsenal at their very best lit up Ashburton Grove last night. The 60 odd
thousand people in the stadium got a real glimpse of football at its most beautiful.
Who: Arsenal (9th) Vs Wigan Athletic (11th)
What: Barclays Premier League, Round 5 for Arsenal, Round 6 for Wigan.
Where: Emirates Stadium, Ashburton Grove, London N5, England.
The Gunners are back in London, after visiting Manchester twice, and Belgium once in their past 3
matches.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is convinced the Gunners season will be won or lost at Emirates
Stadium.
Arsenal are currently the leading scorers in the English top flight, having smashed 10 goals in
their past two home games maintaining a 100% record at Ashburton Grove.
Wenger is in no doubt of the importance of continued strong performances in front of the
60,000-strong Gunners faithful, with north-London rivals Tottenham the next league visitors at the
end of the month.
Which Gallas will show up?
Today see the visit of Birmingham to Ashburton Grove. The incident 2 seasons ago at St. Andrew's
will no doubt still rankles in the mind of all Arsenal fans. The Eduardo broken leg incident
brought about sad memories of that particular season. First for the bad injury that the Brazilian
suffered at the hand (or legs) of Martin Taylor but more importantly, it was the start of which
Arsenal lost the impetus for the Premier League title.
Nothing to be ashamed about.
In the end, the men did beat the boys but not without getting a real fight to win it. As Arsenal
broke the Champions League record by fielding the youngest ever squad to start the premier European
competition, the young guns gave a very good account of themselves and left the stadium with their
heads held high.
Did we all have a good evening?
Lining up against Portsmouth, we started as expected. I heard mention that Denilson was out with
'flu, though I could have misheard in hope. Is that right? I'm too lazy to check it out. Cesc was
nowhere to been seen as expected, the boss saying he would be around 10 days which, in Ashburton
Grove Medical Speak is short for 'sometime before the end of the season if you're lucky.
