Stade Rennais or Rennes is one of the oldest clubs in France having been
founded in 1901 but despite spending 49 seasons in the top division of French
football, Les Bretons are yet to win the Ligue 1 title. They have won two French
Cups, last of which was won in 1971, but considering how much progress the club has made during the
past few years, I feel it is only a matter of time before they win their first league title.
The 4th matchday of France highest level of club football featured a matchup of the top two teams
from last season. Last season's runner-up Olympique Marseille hosted champions Girondins Bordeaux.
It was a back and forth affair that ended up in a 0-0 draw at Marseille's Stade Velodrome. Both
sides remained unbeaten on the season as Bordeaux stayed on top of the standings.

It was a weekend of big matches with champions Bordeaux taking on runners-up Marseille and
fallen giants Lyon against a team who have put together some impressive results so far Nancy. A
few changes were made overall to the Ligue 1 table, with newly promoted Montpellier rocketing into
4th place and Lille slipping into the relegation zone all after 4 matches played.
