So here we have it. League leaders Arsenal are ready to take on Derby, a team that has been labeled
as the worst ever to play in the Premiership. They have been living up to this label, losing 4-0 to
Tottenham and 6-0 to Liverpool and 1-0 to Manchester City in their first three away games this
season. They were admittedly given a tough opening schedule, and a visit to the Emirates will not
do
By 1970's Gooner Eduardo Da Silva bagged another goal for his adopted country, Croatia, to make it
nine goals in this qualifying campaign. Croatia put six past the hapless Andorrans in front of a
crowd of just 200 spectators and are now top of England's group. Srna opened the scoring from a
free kick. Portsmouth's Niko Kranjcar also got on the score sheet.
- According to Arsene Wenger, Arsenal is at a breaking point concerning it's ownership. The French
manager is vehemently against foreigners buying controlling stake in the club and singles out the
Glazer model at Manchester United as what is wrong with football. His reaction come as Russian
billionaire Alisher Usmanov has increased is stake to 23% in the London club.
By 1970's Gooner Arsenal have signed Lassana Diarra from Chelsea for about £2 million. Diarra 22,
was in the final year of his contract. He was brought in from French club Le Havre in 2005 as a
natural replacement for Makelele. But Chelsea still have Makelele on their books having agreed a
one year extension to his contract. They also have Michael Essien, Steve Sidwell and John Obi Mikel
so
Arsenal have overtaken both Chelsea and Manchester United to become the second richest football
club in the world, behind only Real Madrid. The move to the Emirates stadium is said to be
responsible for £190 million gunners turnover for the 2006/07 season. With the most expensive
tickets in the Premiership, it is not too startling that Arsenal earn a massive £3.
Many assumed Thierry Henry's departure could mean a mass exodus of the French influence from the
Gunners. Arsene Wenger has decided to dispel that rumor and sign on for three more years after some
speculation that he would leave when vice-chairman David Dein left in the Spring - truth is,
where else could you see him? The once free-spending, upstart [.
By 1970's Gooner Croatia beat Estonia 2-0 at home on Saturday, courtesy of two excellent goals from
Eduardo da Silva. Croatia are now top in Group E with Russia and England lying second and third
respectively. Eduardo showed what he is capable of doing in front of goal which why Wenger after
all paid 10m to buy him from Dinamo Zagreb over the summer.
- There's a good chance he's done playing for the season, but that won't keep David Beckham out of
the papers. That would be like Bush withdrawing troops from Iraq. Anyhow, first we have the
Beckhams receiving a comedy duo award nomination from Loaded magazine for their attempt to conquer
the US. According to Editor Martin Daubney, the couple have "the British public laughing" for their
embarassing exploits including Victoria supposedly having enlarged breasts and throwing out the
first pitch at a baseball game.
Arsenal have only conceded three goals in five Premiership matches and two Champions League
qualifiers this season. With such a god defensive record, we have no need to worry about our
goalkeepers right? Wrong. Two of the three goals allowed were the fault of Jens Lehmann's errors,
and the third (yesterday against Tottenham) could have been stopped by Manuel Almunia - albeit with
some impressive
The summer transfer window ended with the surprise last-minute signing of Lassana Diarra from
Chelsea. Apparently the excitement of this move was not enough to quell rumors linking Arsenal with
other players for the January transfer window. Talking Soccer today linked Arsenal with three
youngsters who are in the vein of players that Arsene Wenger would sign.
Well, I thought that I was perhaps being too harsh on Derby by predicting a 4-0 Arsenal win, but
the young guns proved me wrong, emphatically winning the game 5-0. Arsenal remain at the top of the
table thanks to a hat-trick from Emmanuel Adebayor and goals from Cesc Fabregas and Abou Diaby.
Lineups: Arsenal: Manuel Almunia; Bacary Sagna, Kolo Toure, Philippe Senderos, Gael Clichy; Abou
Diaby,
Match Preview Arsenal remained at the top of the table today as they beat West Ham thanks to a 13th
minute header from Robin van Persie. Manchester United have yet to play, but even if they win
Arsenal will be 2 points ahead with a game in hand. Currently, our closest rivals are Manchester
City who 3 points behind, having played one more game. Arsene Wenger's gunners finally broke their

After months of delays and rumors, the speculation over Arsene Wenger's future has finally ended as
the Arsenal manager is understood to have reached an agreement with our board of directors. The
deal will tie him to Arsenal until the end of the 2010/11 season and will see Wenger making £4
million a year. Wenger had earlier hinted that he would come out about his future some time this
week, and
Admit it. You thought Arsene Wenger was tilting at windmills. His notion of maintaining a team with
a few veterans and a core of youngsters was the folly of someone who was mailing it in--already
certain he was following Thierry Henry to greener pastures. Wenger has spent the past few years
racked with criticism over personnel and transfer decisions.
By 1970's Gooner Arsenal Holdings Plc has announced bumper figures for the year ended May 2006. The
results include the hugely positive effect of the extra revenues arising from the move to the
Emirates. Arsenal now take in £3.1m per match day as opposed to about half of that during the
Highbury days. What is also encouraging is that the debt taken up to build the stadium is only
£260m and
From yesterdays Carling Cup action.
Arsenal have begun the season well, coming into our 5th match tied on points with leaders
Liverpool, despite having played a game less than Tottenham, Chelsea, and last years Barclay's
Premier League champions, Manchester United. The only 2 points that Arsenal have dropped were due
to an error from Jens Lehmann against Blackburn, and otherwise Arsenal have beaten Fulham,
high-flying Manchester
By 1970's Gooner Arsene Wenger has a decision to make for the Champions League Group H encounter
against Sevilla. Does he continue with Gilberto in central defence or does he opt for the returning
Senderos. This is a much more difficult decision than it first appears because either selection
will have repercussions elsewhere in the formation of the team but also in Wenger's future
planning.
In an exclusive extract from the Arsenal Opus, an 850-page history of one of England's proudest
clubs, Arsène Wenger talks about his ongoing battle against a lifelong fiery temper
Arsène Wenger exudes intelligence and a sense of calm. Dignified and unruffled, he is used to
living with pressure, but he admits it has taken years of self-discipline to keep his fiery temper
in check.
Maybe I was wrong about Alex Song. And I'm not just saying that because it rhymes. Song was
brilliant in the center of defense alongside Philippe Senderos in yesterday's game against
Newcastle. The two held out against a strong Newcastle frontline of Shola Ameobi, Obafemi Martins,
and Alan Smith; managing to keep a clean sheet (thanks in part to Senderos' clearing off the line).
Arsene Wenger has admitted serious fears for the future of English football.
The Arsenal manager believes the domestic game in England is in danger of being severely damaged
by mass media coverage and new club ownership.
Arsenal are themselves reported to be the takeover target of Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov
and Wenger insists the increasingly business orientated ownership of English clubs is another
damaging factor.
With Alisher Usmanov increasing his stake in Arsenal to 23%, Arsene Wenger has warned that English
football is losing it's soul. The Frenchman backs his statement by speaking of stadiums emptying,
media coverage becoming dominant, and the clubs becoming less about the supporters and more about
the investors.
Not only Arsenal fans, but all football fans should listen to the man.
Alex Hleb passed a late fitness test today and will be included in the squad for Saturday's game
against West Ham. The Belarussian will be a welcome addition to Arsene Wenger's squad, especially
considering his fine form prior to his injury. Hleb, who has been heavily criticized for attempting
to walk the ball into the goal has already scored twice this season, once in the Champions League
Goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, who has been with Arsenal since 2003, reportedly tried to secure a move
away from Arsenal during the last few days of the summer transfer window. Lehmann seems to have
lost his number one spot to Spanish 'keeper Manuel Almunia who has been performing admirably for
Arsenal thus far, with only 1 goal conceded in 4 matches. This means that even when Lehmann comes

You may remember the title of this post, as you've probably been hearing the rumors throughout the
summer. In fact, the first article I wrote on this blog was similarly titled, and although I wrote
it last Thursday a deal has still not materialized. Whether or not you have read my article, no
Arsenal fan has missed the rumors linking Arsene Wenger with a move away from our beloved club.

The table above makes tough reading, but simply put, in Arsene's 621 games with Arsenal, he has won

Tomorrow will see Arsene Wenger's young guns take on Big Sam's Newcastle side in the Carling Cup.
Wenger confirmed that he will continue to play youngsters and players "who need to get up to full
speed" in the Carling Cup, despite the fact that Sam Allardyce always plays his strongest squad
even in the 'lesser' of the English cups. Arsene informed Arsenal.
