Match Of The Day Highlights
1-0 Robin Van Persie
2-0 Samir Nasri
3-0 Own Goal, Roger Johnson
History is on Arsenal's side for the encounter against Manchester City. Including the League
Cup, City have lost 21 of their last 28 visits to Arsenal, failing to score in 18 of those
games.
I haven't checked the details but I think West Brom had a similar record. Add the wealth Citeh
have been able to splash out and it's not difficult to see history will have little bearing on the
outcome of this particular match.
Having suffered a very disappointing defeat against Ipswich Town in the Carling Cup, Arsenal will
now shift their focus on the Premier League with some injury concerns for manager Arsene Wenger.

This game doesn't really require a report the stats say it all:

Shots off Target 1 7

As complete a victory as you are likely to see.
Hmmm, bank holiday here and in the UK, I believe. Which is kind of annoying because I wanted to
ring up my bank today and complain about something but I suppose it'll have to wait.
It means things are fairly quiet with not much in the way of fall-out from the Birmingham game
and little written about City just yet.
Former Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb revealed life at Arsenal was "100% fantastic" and he would
consider a return to the Club under manager Arsene Wenger. Speaking to ESPN, ...
A massive game tonight and one which draws a number of contrasts between the two teams.
City are big, physical and expensively assembled. Arsenal smaller, lighter and put together in a
much more prudent fashion. During his press conference yesterday Arsene was asked about how he felt
about the way City had become a Premier League force and said:
I personally am a big fan of the way we do it, so I try to be successful with the way we do
it.
The agonizing miss
Arsenal failed to keep up pace with Manchester United as we can only managed a draw against
fellow title contender, Manchester City at home. It was two points drop rather than a point gained.
A fact that is apparent in the zero shots on target that City could mustered and the totally
negative tactics which Roberto Mancini brought to the Grove.

Our second string team weren't up to it; The midfield did not function properly with the Alex
Song and Denilson partnership failing in the centre and Tomas Rosicky appears to have never
regained his spark, he had before his injury woes.

Six years without a trophy will be quite hard to digest. Beautiful football is appreciated by
one and all but last night, I felt a change of heart.
A few points I'd like to note:
1) Arsene should realize that Denilson is not a CDM.
David Norris might want Fabregas' shirt, but surely not for this performance
It is easy to write the blog immediately after the match. With all the anger and anguish from
the game still fresh in my mind, the post would have been lashing out at every single Arsenal
player at Portman Road. So, I gave myself a good (hard) night's sleep in hope that when I wake up,
I would be less angry at our performance.

Belief is the key
Arsenal's sorry run of results continued on Wednesday night as they lost to Championship side
Ipswich Town. The only solace that the Gunners can take from the defeat it is a two legged match
and they have a chance to rectify the loss at the Emirates on the 25 January.
A pearler missed from Wenger's presser yesterday afternoon.
"Arshavin will come back after a breather for a few games and be sharper"
Having played both cup games in the last 7 days, and played very much below-par, our little
Russian wide man appears to be getting the bench for a week or so.

Arsenal's best center back will undergo surgery this week on his achilles problem that has kept him
out of a lot of football this season. Vermaelen is a massive part of Arsene's defending plans and
his loss has been significant as the defence have shipped their fair share of goals this season,
exposing Premier League [.
Morning all and welcome to a brand new week. Yesterday's 0-0 between United and Sp*rs was
probably the best result for us, meaning both teams have dropped two points. Gap closed at the top,
widened at the other end. All in all a good weekend as we got back to business in the league. Next
up for us is Wigan at home but between now and then there's the FA Cup replay at Elland Road to
contend with.
Some of my Twitter followers might have seen a quick message on Saturday giving details about
Samir Nasri carrying an injury.
I was told this on Saturday morning and Nasri has been undergoing a course of treatment over the
last week in a bid to get rid of the problem. The injury is to his ankle and he has been carrying
it for some time now, it got much worse after the Man City draw at home and was in considerable
discomfort after the game.
With concerns growing over the extended absence of Arsenal center-half Thomas Vermaelen, manager
Arsene Wenger provided the most recent update over the Belgian international's status in an
interview with the club's official website.
When asked whether Vermaelen had undergone a surgery to treat his injured plantaris tendon,
Wenger stated that the treatment had not been all that serious.
This is the third time in seven weeks that Arsenal are playing Wigan. We can be sure there will
be no surprises for either team. Roberto Martinez had respect and praise for Arsenal. Arshavin is
hoping for a landslide victory while Arsene says any win will be a massive result.
I liked the way Arsene is looking at things.
Morning all, a trip to Wembley and a cup final is just 90 minutes away. Or 120 minutes away. But
hopefully just 90.
Ipswich will arrive at the Grove tonight with a 1-0 lead knowing that they're more than likely
to face a very different Arsenal team to the one they faced a couple of weeks ago at Natalie
Portman Road.
Arsenal's close connection with youth talented players looks set to continue after the latest
report the London club are eying an exciting young attacking midfielder/winger that plays in the
French League, Eden Hazard.
Although the Gunners have been linked with the player for quite a while, but the truth about the
rumors has only been emerged after the club's tactician, Arsene Wenger, personally speak out about
his interest on Hazard.
I missed the first half an hour of last night's game, scurrying back from football of my own to
catch up via Tom's live blogging. At half-time and 0-0, with things not quite clicking I have to
admit I was a bit nervy. When we'd got to the hour mark with scoring I was doing my utmost to quash
my inner DoomLord.
I can exclusively reveal that the vast majority of the transfer rumours flying around at the moment
are untrue, I can also reveal that of those that are true, the vast majority will not end up
materialising as this is the way of the transfer market. Arsene is coy as always in his press
conference today, if he was after someone he wouldn't tell us and if he wasn't he wouldn't either,
there's
A second string Manchester United side progressed to the 5th round of the FA cup after coming from
behind against an exciting Southampton side. The Saints had taken a deserved lead late in the first
half after Richard Chaplow blasted home an emphatic finish from inside the box past Manchester
United debutant Anders Lindegaard.
