Thoughts On The Starting Eleven And Tactics Against Man City

History is on Arsenal's side for the encounter against Manchester City. Including the League Cup, City have lost 21 of their last 28 visits to Arsenal, failing to score in 18 of those games.

I haven't checked the details but I think West Brom had a similar record. Add the wealth Citeh have been able to splash out and it's not difficult to see history will have little bearing on the outcome of this particular match.

Hmmm, bank holiday here and in the UK, I believe. Which is kind of annoying because I wanted to ring up my bank today and complain about something but I suppose it'll have to wait.

It means things are fairly quiet with not much in the way of fall-out from the Birmingham game and little written about City just yet.

A massive game tonight and one which draws a number of contrasts between the two teams.

City are big, physical and expensively assembled. Arsenal smaller, lighter and put together in a much more prudent fashion. During his press conference yesterday Arsene was asked about how he felt about the way City had become a Premier League force and said:

I personally am a big fan of the way we do it, so I try to be successful with the way we do it.

Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0 : Arsenal Failed To Turn Over Negative Moneybags

The agonizing miss

Arsenal failed to keep up pace with Manchester United as we can only managed a draw against fellow title contender, Manchester City at home. It was two points drop rather than a point gained. A fact that is apparent in the zero shots on target that City could mustered and the totally negative tactics which Roberto Mancini brought to the Grove.

Our second string team weren't up to it; The midfield did not function properly with the Alex Song and Denilson partnership failing in the centre and Tomas Rosicky appears to have never regained his spark, he had before his injury woes.

Six years without a trophy will be quite hard to digest. Beautiful football is appreciated by one and all but last night, I felt a change of heart.

A few points I'd like to note:

1) Arsene should realize that Denilson is not a CDM.

David Norris might want Fabregas' shirt, but surely not for this performance

It is easy to write the blog immediately after the match. With all the anger and anguish from the game still fresh in my mind, the post would have been lashing out at every single Arsenal player at Portman Road. So, I gave myself a good (hard) night's sleep in hope that when I wake up, I would be less angry at our performance.

Belief is the key

Arsenal's sorry run of results continued on Wednesday night as they lost to Championship side Ipswich Town. The only solace that the Gunners can take from the defeat it is a two legged match and they have a chance to rectify the loss at the Emirates on the 25 January.

Having played both cup games in the last 7 days, and played very much below-par, our little Russian wide man appears to be getting the bench for a week or so.

Morning all and welcome to a brand new week. Yesterday's 0-0 between United and Sp*rs was probably the best result for us, meaning both teams have dropped two points. Gap closed at the top, widened at the other end. All in all a good weekend as we got back to business in the league. Next up for us is Wigan at home but between now and then there's the FA Cup replay at Elland Road to contend with.

I was told this on Saturday morning and Nasri has been undergoing a course of treatment over the last week in a bid to get rid of the problem. The injury is to his ankle and he has been carrying it for some time now, it got much worse after the Man City draw at home and was in considerable discomfort after the game.
