by CARL ELDRIDGE I've been to a good few Arsenal games over the past four decades but never have
I had the pleasure to bump in to a Gunners fan quite as lovely as this buxom babe. More's the
bleedin' pity!
So when this rather appealing snap landed at arsenalinsider we thought
it only right and proper to share it with our growing army of visitors.
by JAMES CURTIS Ronald Koeman and his trusted staff accommodated the away dug-out last night
wearing long black trench coats, black ties and matching leather gloves. As Arsenal pounded the
Alkmaar goal one of his grey-haired men scribbled notes into small black book. It was like watching
a scene from The Untouchables.
There is only one big issue today, the news that Arsenal Football Club is now effectively owned
by Stan Kroenke. I say this rather tongue in cheek, in that until all the shares are owned by Mr
Kroenke, this is more a question of voting rights with the effective control of the club that is
conferred upon Stan Kroenke by virtue of this shareholding.
by VIC CRESCIT In a light week for Arsenal on-field news I thought I'd pause today and have a
look at the future prospects for ownership at Arsenal.
Yesterday saw a bloc of 32 Arsenal Holdings shares traded off-market. I think it's reasonable to
assume that Alisher Usmanov's Red & White Holdings Ltd was the buyer.
With a majority of the first-team squad either in the treatment room or away on international
duty this week I thought I'd blog again on ownership. I know many Gooners don't give a stuff who
owns the club as long as we're successful. I for one beg to differ. Leadership and thus success
comes from the top.
by JOSH My friend posed this question to me on Sunday morning after Cesc moved to the top of our
goalscoring charts for this season. Was this just another knee jerk reaction after a sumptuous
run of form, or is Fabregas turning the corner from potentially world class, to one of the best
midfielders in the world?
by JAMES CURTIS Arsenal will be without Gael Clichy when AZ Alkmaar arrive at the Emirates
tomorrow evening ahead of another Champions League encounter.
Bendtner has already been ruled out for at least four weeks with a groin problem, proving the
Gunner's winter injury list is about as traditional as Christmas pudding.
by CARL ELDRIDGE Arsenal fans are fearful for the future of the club after Stan Kroenke
increased his stakeholding to 29.6 per cent — just short of the threshold for an obligatory
takeover of 29.9 per cent, reports the Times.
Kroenke yesterday purchased another 427 shares in the parent company of the North London club
from the estate of Ernest Harrison, a British industrialist, at a cost of £3.
Robin van Persie now delivering the form that we always knew that he could provide as long as he
stayed fit. With a goal in each of the last seven games he is fast becoming a major threat to
defences in the Premier league and Europe with his quick feet and eye for goal. He lacks only the
perfection of his set pieces to truly become the player who alongside Fabregas can fashion a real
charge at the premiership title.
by CARL ELDRIDGE Arsenal face Manchester City in the quarter final of the Carling Cup next month
and Gooners everywhere are praying Arsene Wenger's Young Guns can overcome Mark Hughes' side,
complete with Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure. Robin van Persie has already stated he'd love to
play against City and his reasons no doubt refer to the incident in the 4-2 Premier League defeat
in which Adebayor kicked RVP in the face.
Yesterday bought us news that Silent Stan Kroenke has upped his stake by two hundred shares to
18,594 or 29.9%. One hundred of these shares were bought from our esteemed chairman Peter
Hill-Wood, he who famously pronounced that we didn't need "his sort" when Kroenke bought into the
club via ITV plc's 9.
By Paul Williams The season is beginning to take shape now, everyone has played enough games for
the hopes and worries to be well set. So far the season for Arsenal has been generally good.
However, we are entering November – a month all Arsenal fans have learnt to worry over.
Today we take on Wolves and all sensible comment would suggest another three points, after all
we have only lost 2 games all season and the Manure defeat was, to say the least, undeserved.
by JAMES CURTIS With 10 minutes left on the clock and Arsenal 4-0 up at Molineux, a friend asked
me who I thought was man of the match? Arsenal were scoring at will once again so you'd think it
would be easy to pick a star man.
There were plenty of rewarding individual performances.
A decent win in the Black Country on Saturday, aided by some iffy Wolves defending and
goalkeeping. Still we weathered the early storm Wolves whipped up quite well, although a lack of
sharpness on their part in front of goal helped.
Now we head into an international break with a number of our European players featuring in
crucial World Cup play-offs, not least France v Ireland.
by CARL ELDRIDGE I am only guessing here but surely to heaven this picture is a result of the
upcoming Children in Need campaign. The snap dropped into our mailbox and we thought, you know
what, let's see just how inventive you lot can be. So, I have a spare ticket for the Arsenalv
Standard Liege Champions League game later this month at the Emirates and I'll give it to the best
caption sent in to us here at arsenalinsider by the end of the week.
Sickening is how I would describe the Kung Fu kick meted out by Jonny "The Hitman" Evans of Man
Utd against Drogba of Chelsea last Sunday. But lets be fair, Man Utd have included Kung Fu in
its training ever since Cantona was accused by a Shaolin Master based in Moss side Manchester of
having poor technique in his kung fu kick pictured above.
by AKSHAY Before the start of the season, Arsene Wenger had said in an interview that youngster
Aaron Ramsey was very close to breaking through into the first team and that he had a set him a
target of 15-20 games this season. Before the match against Wolves, barring his two starts in the
league cup he had made only cameo appearances as a substitute in the league and Champions League,
mostly replacing Fabragas and he had also scored his first Emirates and league goal for Arsenal
vs.
And the hits just keep on coming. Kieran Gibbs is our latest crock having being taken off
injured in the England Under 21s game in Vilnius against Lithuania last night. Oh deep and
unbounded joy. Not.
The training ground is starting to resemble a casualty ward yet again with the following out
injured:
- Gaël Clichy
- Robin van Persie
- Kieran Gibbs
- Theo Walcott
- Abou Diaby
- Lukasz Fabiański
- Nicklas Bendtner
- Armand Traoré
- Jack Wilshere
- Carlos Vela
- Denilson
The full extent of the Gibbs injury isn't yet known but it's a suspected broken metatarsal
bone.
by CARL ELDRIDGE Allow me to get a few things off my chest as we reflect on the total
destruction of the Haringey Pretenders with a highly convincing, highly enjoyable and ultimately an
easy-peasy 3-0 win at the home of football yesterday.
First, a quick memo to Robbie Keane who claimed that Harold 'Steptoe' Redknapp's bunch of
over-hyped, over-paid under-achievers were an altogether better squad than that of the glorious
Gunners.
by JAMES CURTIS The rage in Cesc Fabregas' eyes was uncontrollable as he raced to one corner of
the Emirates, executed a mini knee-slide and bounced back up with clenched fists to celebrate
Arsenal's second goal. Just one minute earlier Robin van Persie had circled the same section with
his arms flung out and chest pumping having opened the scoring.
by CARL ELDRIDGE Manuel Almunia proved he is good enough to keep Arsenal on track for honours this
season with his performance against the team-that-dare-not-speak-its-name on Saturday.
Questions were asked earlier in the season about the Spaniard and one or two errors didn't
exactly provide the cornerstone of a defence for his suitability as the No.
by CARL EDLRIDGE Stan Kroenke has snapped up another 427 shares in Arsenal's parent holding
company, at a cost of £3.6million, as the Yank moves closer towards the takeover threshold,
reports the Daily Mail.
Kroenke is now the largest individual shareholder in Arsenal, with a stake of 29.
by CARL ELDRIDGE There is plenty of fall-out from the weekend's Premier League games and the
highlight has to be Darren Fletcher's ludicrous, laughable and lamentable claim that Arsene
Wenger's comments after our game with them at Old Trafford has caused him grief with refs ever
since.
The Daily Mail reports that Wenger accused United of playing ‘anti-football' after Arsenal's
2-1 defeat in August.
by CARL ELDRIDGE We're not quite in the doldrums as far as Arsenal coverage goes ahead of the
international weekend but we aren't far off, folks. But there are a few tales pertaining to the
glorious Gunners to bring you not least of which is the Daily Mail's yarn that both Arsenal and
Manchester United have both lodged an interest in signing Yaya Toure from Barcelona at the end of
the season.
No TGIF during the International break, so it gives me a chance to go back to traditional blogging.
The subject for discussion this week is the vexed question of silverware at Arsenal football Club.
The persistent refrain of Arsenal MUST win something this season if the youth experiment is to be
hailed as a success is rather doing my head in.
by CARL ELDRIDGE Here's a tall story from the Sun (for a change), which tells us that aspiring
midfielder Aaron Ramsey has grown two inches in the last year.
The redtop says Arsenal's 18-year-old whizkid wins his 11th Welsh cap today when Scotland
provide the opposition in Cardiff.
by CARL ELDRIDGE It looks likely that we won't know until late tonight or, more probably,
tomorrow morning just how bad is the ankle injury RVP sustained playing against Italy for Holland
at the weekend.
Reports suggest the in-form striker will have his injury assessed in Holland this evening with a
series of scans but speculation is mounting that the problem will leave him sidelined for up to
three months.
by VIC CRESCIT Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Somebody at the club must have repeatedly run
over a black cat in a tank. Yet again the injury curse has struck. Robin van Persie will be out, as
things stand at the moment, for at least six weeks. He did his right ankle ligaments landing badly
after a tackle playing for the Netherlands in their goalless draw in a friendly against Italy in
the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara on Saturday.
by JAMES CURTIS It would seem the November injury curse stretches beyond just Arsenal playing
staff. This dreaded plague is now spreading among Arsenal fans too as I write this with a fractured
leg, sustained over the same weekend as Van Persie ruptured his ankle ligaments playing for the
Dutch against Italy.
by CARL ELDRIDGE Crocked Kieran Gibbs will give Arsene Wenger another injury headache ahead of
the trip to Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday.
The young left-back hobbled out of England U-21's 0-0 draw in Lithuania last night and this
morning's paper report on the injury which comes after RVP was sidelined with ankle ligament
damage.
by JAMES CURTIS The news this afternoon is that Stan Kroenke has ditched plans to invest in
further shares at Arsenal by the end of the month, instead choosing to wait until the new year to
take his shareholding to the magic 29.99% figure.
This is because Silent Stan has plunged $1 million into a Montana ranch thought to be 10,000
acres and containing 4,000 horses, in an effort to rear as much placenta as possible after yet
another Arsenal player has fallen short to an ankle injury.
