Arsenal have been named the third most valuable sports club in the world by American business
magazine, Forbes. They list us as being worth £837 million, while Manchester United and Real
Madrid lead the valuation table respectively. Real Madrid are also the second most valuable
football club at an astonishing $1.
When the FA assess Emmanuel Adebayor's shocking challenges tomorrow, surely the above image is the
best evidence to get him banned for 3 games?! The Togolese frontman stamped on Robin van Persie's
face during Arsenal's 4-2 defeat against Manchester City yesterday. As expected, Adebayor caused
all the controversy with his goal celebration and over-aggressive tackling Cesc [.
Yesterday saw Arsenal take the first step in challenging for the title this season, you want to
know why? We have games against Fulham, Blackburn, Birmingham, Tottenham, West Ham, Wolves and
Sunderland before our next top four clash, if we get 15 points out of those games we will be around
the top of the table, [.
With just an hour remaining in this years summer transfer window, a loan move for young
Mexican Carlos Vela could be possible, as several reports from London linking him with a
transfer deadline loan deal with Fulham Football Club.
Vela has now a difficult ankle injury, which forced him out of action in the first weeks of the
new campaign.
If there was one element of our new 4-3-3 formation that nobody had predicted at the start of
the season it was the use of Robin Van Persie as the central striker and Nicholas Bendtner as a
right sided forward. I'm sure that for many gooners, like myself, this was unfathomable; it just
literally never crossed my mind that Wenger might play like this.
Standard Liege's Arsenal-supporting midfielder Axel Witsel has been banned for 11 GAMES after
committing a horrendous foul on Anderlecht stopper Marcin Wasilewski . Belgian international Witsel
was sent off on Sunday with just 24 minutes into the game while Wasilewski has been ruled out for
12 months.
Arsenal defender Johan Djourou will be missing for six months, L'Equipe has revealed. The Swiss
international was expected to return later to the squad later month, but Djourou has been forced
to get his troublesome knee cartilage problem operated on which means he will be on the sidelines
for six months.
Manchester City are fretting over potential racist chants being directed at Emmanuel Adebayor
during the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Sept 20. Despite the fact that City have Ade's
former club as their next game, they're more worried about the Manchester derby, where fans are
expected to sing the racist chant towards the Togolese frontman.
Morning everyone.
The fallout has begun. For years and years Wenger has been subjected to the vilest of chants, as
serious as any racial abuse, whenever we have made the trip to Old Trafford (and certain other
grounds, too). The mainstream media occasionally give it a casual reference, but until yesterday it
had never been properly addressed.
If there is one person who will always have a rant at Arsenal its Tony Cascarino. The former
Chelsea striker is the first one to jump on the bash Arsenal band-wagon. It is his job, but with
Cascarino it is always one way traffic.
When we sold Adebayor and Toure, Cascarino was the first to jump on the anti-Arsenal
bandwagon.
This time last year, I think during another dull international break, I had a look at the
reserves and which players will make an impact, albeit in the Carling, on the First Team this
season. I thought I would do that again as the only news out of the club at the moment is the
scheduled injury to an important back up centre back (Johan Djourou for those who are unaware)
<?
When Arsene decided not to re-enforce his midfield one of the reasons was the progress made by
Arsenal's other Spanish youngster Fran Merida. Arsenal fans and coaches have been waiting for the
youngster to make that final leap to the first team squad, with some coaches believing that he has
the ability to be a better player than Cesc.
Success in football is a funny old thing. Take Barcelona's treble winning formula last season as an
example. With a blend of swift, attacking play, combined with staunch, organised defending, the
Catalan giants managed to outperform the majority of the top European sides. The basis for Barca's
success was the quality and imagination of the [.
The media has been castigating Arsene Wenger since he came to England over the lack of English
players that have come through the Arsenal ranks during his spell at Arsenal.
In fact during this period both Ashley Cole and Kieran Gibbs have played regularly for Arsenal,
in the same period there have been players coming through the ranks at Liverpool, Tottenham or
Chelsea and Manchester United have Wes Brown to show for their great English academy.
Will there be a flurry of transfer activity on deadline day at Arsenal?
Philippe Senderos has left it late to find a new club and the rumours are that either Portsmouth
or Hull City will make a move for the Swiss international. This is a mighty drop after playing
for AC Milan and Arsenal, but with no other takers and Senderos being sixth choice after Gallas,
Vermaelen, Djourou, Silvestre and Song, it is best if the Swiss stopper moves to a team that will
give him regular football.
The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body today examined the case of the Arsenal FC player Eduardo
"for deceiving the referee" during the UEFA Champions League play-off second leg match on 26 August
against Celtic FC, and has suspended the player for two UEFA club competition matches.
The Gunners fail to make any moves on the closing day of this summers transfer window. More to
come.
On 22 September Arsenal host West Bromwich Albion in the Carling Cup. This competition has
been used by Wenger as breeding ground for youngsters and for fringe first team players to make a
claim for a first team start.
Despite treating the competition with some disdain, Arsenal have reached the final once and the
semi-final on three other occasions.
Not good. Djourou underwent surgery and won't be back until March at the earliest. And we're one
step closer to having to watch Silvestre play. Ugh.
The injury was the one picked up on international duty last month, reminding us of why we hate
internationals. Other than that, there don't appear to be any other injuries to report.
I hate Interlulls.
Seriously, they agitate me to the point where I think it's a good idea to go out on a Sunday
night and drink beer until 2am. And what good does that do you? Monday is still Monday, the
Interlull is still the Interlull and you have to face it hungover.
The other thing is that one of my neighbours is right in the middle of some serious construction
work.
Contrary to rumours, Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has not sustained an injury on international
duty with Belgium. The summer signing from Ajax was rumoured to be out of Wednesday's clash with
Armenia, but the 23-year-old is actually one of many Belgian stars who is suspended for the game.
There have been several reports recently that Alisher Usmanov will announce any day now that he
has acquired Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith's 15.6% share in Arsenal. This will take Usmanov's holding
to over 40%, resulting in him being obliged to make a formal offer for the club.
The Board, namely Peter Hill-Wood will make statements to the effect that the club is not for
sale, despite the fact the Hill-Wood sold his shares in Arsenal many years ago to David Dein!
Since there's nothing else going on due to the international break, I thought I'd take the
opportunity to write something a little less topical that I've been worrying about lately. I think
FIFA's recent crackdown on Chelsea and other clubs could be a very bad omen indeed for Arsenal.
As you have no doubt heard, FIFA recently handed down a decision which prohibits Chelsea from
making any purchases over the next 2 transfer windows.
Well, that wasn't very much fun. I haven't found a good "highlights" video yet, but will post it
when I do.
I guess my thought is this let's not overreact. Yes, this is a bad result for us. Yes, I thought
the match was pretty evenly matched, so to come out of it with 0 points. Yes, it sucks to watch
Adebayor stomp a player in the face, get away with it, then score a goal and celebrate in front of
Arsenal's fans (stay classy, Ade.
Too often in European away ties we play with an inbuilt fear, a fear of making a mistake and not
being able to recover. Last night saw a very indifferent performance from Arsenal, a performance
that the Sky TV team of Parry and Smith.
Within five minutes all Arsenal fans were wondering what had gone wrong.
Arsenal fans relationship with Adebayor was tenuous at the best of times. In his first one and
half seasons most fans lambasted the Togo striker and then he struck gold. He scored goal after
goal for Arsenal as we pursued the title.
At the end of the season just to prove that he had not quiet gauge the Arsenal fans, Adebayor
and his agent spent the summer sending out signals that he wanted to leave for AC Milan or
Barcelona.
If you weren't aware of it before, you certainly will be now. Emirates Stadium has been undergoing
an ‘Arsenalisation' process in recent weeks. This includes, stand out images from the club's
history adorning the concourses, which look absoloutely brilliant. Enjoy the gallery below and
leave any feedback you may have in the comments section below.
Well, it's 3 points, right? It wasn't the best performance by any means. But we got the win
after so many times saying "we were the better team but still lost," I'm much happier when the
opposite is true. And as I discussed in the preview yesterday, it's very, very tough to go to
Craven Cottage and come out with 3 points.
UEFA have announced that Arsenal frontman Eduardo has been banned for 'deceiving the referee'
during last weeks Champions League clash with Celtic. The Gunners' CEO Ivan Gazidis gave his
opinion a few days ago on Eduardo's supposed dive, something that many fans seem to agree with. "I
think that if you have had an injury like that [.
The unsurprising news arrived today that Eduardo has indeed received a two match ban from the
Champions League after his dive against Celtic last week. UEFA took less than an hour to come to
their decision despite a 19-page dossier sent by the club in defence.
But then we knew that was going to happen from the moment he was charged it was clear that
Eduardo was to be UEFA's scapegoat, their statement of intent that diving would no longer be
tolerated.
Seriously, is there a bigger frakking joke of an organization on the planet than UEFA?
Apparently they have now come out and said that they will not be instituting a regular program
of reviewing suspected acts of simulation for possible suspensions. So, basically, Eduardo gets
suspended, and none of the other scores of players who have committed or will commit virtually
identical acts will.
The speculation presented in the Sun today is quite old news as Arsenalinsider informed you all
of any likely impending Boardroom struggle back in July, when Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith was
rumoured to have finally found a buyer for her shares. The 15.9% stake was always going to be the
crucial holding in the final ownership direction, and there were only two players who were going to
fight it out.
Given that we are in the midst of an international break, there is a surprising amount to get
through.
First, we have yesterday's comments from John Terry that English players don't dive:
"That's something the England lads don't do. Sometimes we're too honest. Even in the Premier
League, we see the English lads get a bit of contact and try to stay on their feet and score the
chance.
Hello people hope you all are having good days without any Arsenal news because it has been very
boring for a few days on the Arsenal front, due to the international breaks no doubt. But before I
go into that there is some positive news regarding Walcott:
The official website has said he is due to back after this weeks international break versus
Croatia but in my opinion I doubt he will figure against Man City, seeming the importance of the
game and risking him would not be worth it.
The final instalment of my analysis of the club's future prospects details the last elements of
the Arsenal Playing squad. This section has had to be edited yet again as other contributors have
commented upon many of the key players. Today I shall deal with our midfield and strikers – post
transfer window Summer 2009.
Look, ive had enough of this now. Please, just let it stop.
And my blogging software is was playing up.
Now, I'm English, I'm a fairly patriotic kinda guy but all this talk that diving is below
English players is total and utter bollocks in my view. I'm not going much more into it than that
but I want England to lose tonight, the mighty, honest, hard-done-by England
I'm not going to say something immature like I hope John Terry breaks his leg diving when
Eduardo tries to tackle him.
I knew it was too much to ask for for our players to get through an international break without
getting injured, and I was right. Andrei Arshavin, who had to come off injured with a groin injury
against Manchester United, rushed back too early to play in yesterday's game against Wales. Guus
Hiddink, being the loyal Chelsea man he is, made sure Arshavin played all 90 minutes, and of course
he re-injured his groin, and will now miss our next two matches the league fixture against
Manchester City and the Champions League match-up with Standard Liege.
In the close season Arsene Wenger talked about making the Emirates more "Arsenal". So we
waited to see what was to happen.
When the Emirates was opened four summers ago, it was clear that the money had run out and there
were many blank, concrete clad walls. Arsenal fans accepted this as a short term measure knowing
that things would improve.
Adebayor decided to remind us all of why we sold him today ahead of the game by saying that any
fans who booed him during his tenure with Arsenal are "not real fans" and "tomorrow they will
support Liverpool." He just doesn't get it, does he? The relationship between supporters and
players is just that a relationship.
Emmanuel Adebayor's celebration after scoring against Arsenal today was perhaps the definition of
OTT (over the top). Former Gunner Adebayor ran the length of the pitch to taunt the watching
Arsenal fans, who were trying to storm past stewards to get to the Togolese frontman. Adebayor's
celebration was pre-meditated, he knew exactly what he was going to [.
