What similarity was there between today and Saturday? One main one, once again Cesc Fabregas
scored one and made 2. His goal tonight was also from long range, this time however there was a
massive slice of luck involved. The shot was going wide but unfortunately for Julien Escude, his
attempted block gave Palop no chance as the ball hit the back of the net.
As noted below, I was away from the intertubes for several days while on vacation. I was in a
well-known resort area in the United States. Which is all to say that, sometimes I forget how many
Englishmen wear their club kits while on holiday overseas.
Plenty of Three Lions strips, of course. And ManYoo and Chelsea and Liverpool, both home and
away.
I guess the exchange rate really is putting a pinch on international travel. The NFL's
Miami Dolphins are heading to London next month to play the New York Giants in a regular season
matchup at Wembley. But the gridiron football team, worth an estimated $.942 billion, couldn't get
the scratch together to train at Arsenal's London Colney training ground.
No, this isn't a Sen. Larry Craig post. Instead, I mean that Arsene Wenger says new Crozilian
striker Eduardo is set to "suddenly explode"!
So far, Dudu has started two matches, appeared in two others, and last week scored his first
Gunner goal against Sparta Prague in the Champions League. Wenger, on the advice of Dudu's former
coach Slavan Bilic, thinks that one goal will snowball into several more as the season
progresses.
First thing's first - an Arsenal player scored the goal of the season at White Hart Lane
yesterday. No, not Cesc's 30 yard piledriver, but Adebayor's moment of absolute genius. The touch
to shift the ball from right to left and the volley executed in the same motion were a true master
class in wonderful goals.
I'm sure you all know by now that Arsenal have announced that the club has breached the £200m
revenue mark, thanks in large part to the move from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium. That makes
the club the richest in the UK, and obviously among the richest in the world.
Sitting atop the table with tons of cash and yest a lower payroll than many other top clubs
is.
Here's a hint: he's a Spaniard. Also, he is, I think, 12 years old. He is, of course, Cesc
Fabregas.
It may seem a little early to wrest the title from a certain winking, prostitute-fancying,
fellow-Iberian Red Devil, but I think the (limited) evidence from this year suggests that Fabregas
may in fact be the best player in the Premiership.
Evening all. It's been a while since my last post, been working my tits off and travelling all
over the place. I've been pretty pleased with the Arsenal performances so far this season (caught
all but the Champs League games due to those thieving bastards Satana), yes there have been moments
to moan about but I'm a realistic bloke and I think that the lads are doing extremely well.
Ten-man Arsenal made it four home wins out of four with a 3-1 victory over Portsmouth at
Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
First-half goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Cesc Fabregas gave Arsène Wenger's side a thoroughly
deserved two-goal lead at the break. To that point, they had bossed Harry Redknapp's in-form outfit
and looked set for a high-scoring, straight-forward win.
When Robin Van Persie was asked who if one player anywhere he could bring into the club, his
reply at the time was Wesley Sneijder of then Ajax, he played agianst us in the Amsterdam
Tournement, he has since been sold to Real Madrid for around 18 million. Anyone who saw his
preformance on sunday evening for Real could tell this guy is the real deal.
When Arsenal were drawn against Sparta Prague in the Champions League qualifiers, most, if not
all Gooners predicted a relatively simple, yet physically testing passage to the group stages of
Europe's elite club competition. At the end of the two legged contest, they were proved right- the
Gunners winning 2-0 away from home courtesy of goals from Cesc Fabregas and Aliaksander Hleb, while
later beating the Czech side 3-0 at the Emirates stadium after Rosicky netted against his former
club and then Fabregas and Da Silva finished them off.
While the Gunners are currently second in the table, level on points with leaders Liverpool
albeit with an inferior goal difference, nearly no one apart from their fans have even mentioned
their names with regards to who will be competing for the title come May 2008. Liverpool will
finally do it is the cry, or that Manchester United and Chelsea will both recover from their shaky
starts to reclaim their places at the top.
What's going on between the pipes and between Arsene Wenger's ears these days concerning
goalkeeping for the Arsenal? What we know for sure is that Jens Lehmann has been and is injured. He
will most likely watch this weekend's North London Derby from the stands.
Manuel Alumnia has subbed in for Lehmann and by all accounts has done pretty well for
himself.
Now the dust has settled following a fabulous weekend for us Gooners, and ahead of our CL match
tonight, I intend to bring us all down to earth by questioning a few of the decisions made this
season by our unquestionably magnificent manager.
1/ Johann Djourou
Surely the decision to loan out Johann – who started 27 games for us last season – has been
the most mysterious to date.
I am a humble man.
And, as a humble and fair man, I think I owe a few apologies.
After watching us demolish Seville, my first thoughts were that I may have got a few things
wrong.
If a week is a long time in football, then in a month surely anything can happen. And only a
month ago we had played just three games – a narrow last minute win at home to Fulham, an away
win in Prague, and a battling draw away at Blackburn.
Just about to got bed on Friday night and switch the tv off when Skysports jolted me back with
the statement that Arsenal have signed Lassana Diarra from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee!!
Why is it that no amounts are ever mentioned with transfers in or out of the club! Anyway,
absolutely amazed that Chelsea have released the player even if was in the last year of his
contract and, even more staggered that they released him knowing that Wenger has always rated the
player and signing him would strengthen our squad.
While basking in the afterglow of another great Arse victory and the knowledge that the team are
really pulling together nicely I began to reflect on the Chelski game I watched with great
amusement this afternoon. I have a habit of keeping an eye on the main competition and on
reflection I really would like to re-iterate that I think Arsenal are in with a shot this
season.
Like most Arsenal fans I have delighted in watching our team improve from last season. We are a
tighter defensive unit, only conceding three goals this season so far and through no fault of our
backline. Two were goalkeeping errors, a problem I genmuinely don't expect us to struggle too much
with this season, and an accidental goall by Kanu. Going forward, our midfielders have stepped up
in exactly the fashion we asked them to, by not being so shot-shy and contributing goals to their
game.
With all the talk of behind-the-scenes maneuvers in the quest for Arsenal's soul, memories can't
help flood back to 2005. Man-U fans were burning the Glazers in effigy as the takeover became real.
The images and reactions beamed back over the pond seemed to us, if nothing else, a bit over the
top.
And now, years later, the bitterness still in their blood, United fans have come to realize what
was obvious from day one: the takeover didn't mean the end of the club as they knew it.
It has been reported today that Wenger is on the verge of signing a new deal said to be worth
£75,000 a week. It is reported that an official announcement will be posted on the Arsenal.com
within 24 hours.
The 57-year-old Frenchman is out of contract next summer and rumours had been circulating that
he could be on his way out of the Emirates at the end of the current season following the departure
of vice-chairman David Dein and the sale of Thierry Henry to Barcelona.
Tonights game brings one of the most exciting sides in Europe to the Emirates; a game that i am
absolutely delighted we've got at this stage in the season. The last thing we need in the midst of
a focussed, technically excellent run in the Premiership is a downbeat Euro Group game against
someone like the 5th placed team in Norway.
Hey guys I have certainly been off the blog for a couple of weeks,
blame it on the poor third world technology, never the less I managed to catch up with the replays
of the march against Spurs, the Sevilla match and Wow!! the derby county. Not that I gave Derby a
chance on account of our past performances, but I was amazed at how Arsen's team could create a
contest from a no contest.
Today's announcement of Arsenal being the second richest club in Europe and the richest in
Britain took me back to 1998. We were about the 15th richest club in the world. And where has this
great man taken us. I applaud Arsene for his vision. More than anything, you put the club's
interests before anybosy else. You made sure that when people talk about the greatest clubs of
Great Britain, Europe or for that matter the world, they do not forget Arsenal ever.
Newcastle at home was arguably the hardest tie for anyone in the Carling Cup 3rd round.
Newcastle wanted to have a run in this cup and Wenger was sure to play the reserves. This was clear
as only Senderos, Walcott and Eduardo started from Saturday. The bench included 4 players who had
not appeared for the first team as yet. There was no Fabregas, Adebayor, Van Persie or Toure in
sight.
Welcome to the new look insidearsenal website. We have striped bare the old site and now offer a
sleek clean look blog for all you gooners out there.
Gone are all the pictures - gone are all the techie, flashy bits and in comes a simple easy to
use site that along with contributors new and old will offer all the latest Arsenal news as it
happens.
In a moving tribute to the late Antonio Puerta, Sevilla decided to play in the European Super
cup final. In the aftermath to the tragic death of the much loved Andalusian, Sevilla president
stated, "With the memory of Antonio Puerta, we start playing again with the desire to win the Super
Cup and we will dedicate it to him". With a short video preceding the match showing the highlights
of Puerta's short footballing career, his Sevilla team-mates sporting his name on their shirts and
the fans chanting ‘Puerta!
3-1, down to ten men for 40 minutes, flared tempers and some exhilarating football made today's
match against Pompey one of the games of the season so far. The game was made an open one once
Adebayor converted a penalty. The hunger of Van Persie to chase down the ball showed the new
found determination of this Arsenal side. This commitment was ever present throughout the whole
team and it was hard to pick out a man of the match.
Great result against Pompey, and winning so easily with ten men will have done wonders for our
belief and confidence. It was smashing to see such a good team spirit and wonderful goal
celebrations following our third from Tomas, Cesc et al.
I thought Gilberto had a magnificent game and felt a little sad that he wasn't captain, but Kolo
was also excellent as was Cesc of course.
Arsenal's Reserves first home fixture of the season with Portsmouth the visitors. A nice lively
start to the game , with nice passing movements. Kicking up the Barnet slope in the first half &
within a minute Kieran Gibbs screams one over the bar. The passing & movement is like an mirror
image of the first team, so much so even they do not want to shoot at times.
So four league games and two Champions League games into the season and we are so far looking
pretty all right. The post Henry collapse that many were predicting at this stage seems to be just
press talk and there is an obvious unity in the team and a willingness not to be pushed around that
was absent from large parts of last season.
According to the media, our young team is now the best thing since – well since the
Invincibles - and all of a sudden everyone reckons we have a good chance of winning the title.
It really does make me laugh. Yes, we've had a great start and lie second in the table, but come
on, how can you judge on the season ahead after just three league games plus a couple against a
very poor Sparta side.
Hi folks - I'll be posting on the front page today, so join us over there.
In the meantime, enjoy Eduardo's goals that helped Croatia defeat Estonia over the weekend.
Let's see some of those next weekend, no?

At the start of the season,I looked at the first 2 months fixtures and then realised we did not
have a game arranged for last weekend - Oh no I thought - another week of boring internationals and
no Premiership football!
I feel that more and more fans are feeling the same way when I read other websites and listen to
radio phone-ins.
Firstly sorry for the downtime over the last couple of days. We had our website taken down
because Arsenal Fc did not like us publishing fixtures. We are now back stronger than ever and over
the next 48 hours will be finishing off bits to the site.
Now back to busines with just 1 day to go and I already have the fever inside me, only present
when a North London Derby is around the corner.
Still traveling, so no long posts for a couple of days. But what a sweet win.
Have been meeting several football fans on my travels, and have had a chance to revel in the
victory over Spurs with some strangers here and there.
Top of the table!
Hi all and what a great Monday after a fantastic win on Saturday. We need your help with a
couple of things. Firstly we have been nominated for the "Blogger's Choice Awards 2007" and would
love your support.
At The Blogger's Choice Awards! you'll see which blogs are currently making an impact in the
blogosphere.
This weekend we play Derby. Pervious to Monday night's game I said that Derby were the worst
side I had ever seen in the Premiership. I didn't see the game against Newcastle but by all
accounts they played well and fully deserved the 3 points. I may have to change my view of them but
seeing the way that Spurs literally walked right through their defence does not bold well for the
season.
When I glanced at my programme this afternoon and saw the headline read "Cesc's Six Appeal".
This related to his "six goals and six assists" in 8 games, rather than being a sly pun on the
handsomeness some people see in out little Spaniard. I was shocked to see this, even though I knew
it was true so why was I so shocked?
Sounds ridiculous, not so?, i just thought a while when the news
broke that the special one had been given the sack in a special way. Never mind that this happened
after arsenal humbled Sevilla, just coming on the aftermath of a humiliating draw between Chelsea
and Rosneberg and ofcourse dont forgot; that last sumptous quote of the eggs and the Omlette from
the special one.
