Chelsea have signed two star players from multiple-trophy-winning Arsenal LFC. Midfielder Anita
Asante and striker Lianne Sanderson- our top scorer last season- have left us for London rivals
Chelsea.
It's a shock, because players don't just leave Arsenal LFC, and especially not for other teams
in England.
Leeds can't catch a break, and I'm fine with that. Arsenal Ladies beat Leeds Carnegie 6-1, but
there was apparently drama on the pitch. Both Kelly Smith (Arsenal) and Alex Culvin (Leed) were
shown red cards in the 22nd minute (Smith's two goals came in the second and fifth minutes). From
Arsenal's match report:Smith saw red along with Carnegie's Alex Culvin when the pair squared up to
each other
Today, Emma Hayes was announced as the inaugural Head Coach for Chicago Women's Professional
Soccer. Here's a look at why I think she's the perfect fit for the job.
This weekend I watched DC United (and Columbus and Chivas, but they both lost, so I'm not talking
about that) and Arsenal. DC United. DC's match was pretty good (not great, but that's not going to
happen this season and I'm fine with it) and the new players seemed to fit in well, much better
than the first set of new players.
On August 7th, the Arsenal Ladies will play in the Community Shield against Everton. If I lived in
England, I would so totally go. And if it was available to watch online, I would do that instead.
Sadly, neither of those are likely to happen before the game, so I'll just look for the results.
More information here.
Arsenal Ladies won again. They beat Watford 6-1, with Smith and Little each scoring two goals. From
the match report:The Gunners are ahead of Chelsea and Everton on goal difference with all three
clubs enjoying 100% records.I have to admit that I'm pretty proud of the ladies. Hopefully they'll
keep winning and, even though I don't want Arsenal's dominance to be challenge, I kind of like that
Cheeky Cesc's comments backfire Last night's thriller between Arsenal and Spurs created a lot of
talking points, but one is that the Gunners are only as good as the Arsenal Ladies team. Before the
match Cesc Fabregas has claimed that Tottenham could only manage a draw against the women's outfit.
He said: "They would do really well.
It's gotten lost among all the other stuff at Arsenal.com, but this week is Ladies Week! I know,
not exciting to most people, but it is to me. I've collected the links posted so far, and I'll
probably do another round up at the end of the week, but first. This little tidbit that I missed
from earlier this month.
Still sick, still watching football. Let's not talk about the joke that was DCU's match yesterday.
Instead, let's talk (briefly) about Arsenal. One day, I'll get to see an Arsenal CL match. Possibly
not until next year, though. That being said, I would love to see Aaron Ramsey's goal. I love it
when the kids do well.
County teacher set to kick-off Euro adventureCouncil employee Leanne Ross is set for a european
adventure in Serbia this week in the UEFA Women's Cup. Leanne, who works as an Active Schools
co-ordinator based at Alva Academy, is part of the Glasgow City team who have qualified for the
first round of the competition facing teams from Serbia, Holland and Moldova.
I'll write about the other (men's) football matches I watched later. For now, it's the women.
Arsenal Ladies Arsenal 6-1 Doncaster R.B. (official Arsenal.com match report) Arsenal Ladies

advantage of Doncaster Rovers Belles off-field problems to register another emphatic victory in the

My parents are visiting for the Ohio State/Michigan game, so I probably won't be watching much
football (of the European kind) until tomorrow. Which means no Arsenal, but I'm not sure I want to
watch it. I am glad that Gallas (hopefully) had his captaincy stripped. What he said, while
entertaining and I enjoy a good train wreck, was inappropriate for a public setting.
First off, I'm totally excited about the USWNT. I "watched" the game at work (mostly I
was doing actual work) and caught two of the four goals (and one of the two Japanese goals). From
what I saw, most of the first half was pretty bad, but the team stepped it up near the end. The
second half seemed much better, much faster and the team looked stronger.
I have a lot I want to say, but really no desire to actually say it. Which is really lucky, because
I'm sure none of you want to read it. Let's recap everything that I haven't posted about: USWNT
won! It was fantastic, I'm grateful I didn't have to work Thursday morning so that I could watch
it.USMNT won!
UEFA Women's Cup Arsenal awaits the first qualifying round of the UEFA Women's Cup in order to find
out who they, and Olympique Lyonnais, will be playing in October. Women's Cup campaign begins The
2008/09 UEFA Women's Cup kicks off on Thursday with 36 of the 43 entrants in first qualifying round
action.
Congratulations to Arsenal L.F.C., who wrapped up their fifth title in a row after coming from
behind to beat Chelsea. They were playing at the Emirates, something they do once a season, and in
front of 5,000 fans.
I'm very proud of the Ladies. They are, quite frankly, dominant in England, with the sort of
record that's just impossible.
Arsenal win the double, but it's something of a disappointment. What does that mean for women's
football in England, and how will the new American Women's Professional Soccer league impact on it?
May 15, 2008 - Having led her teams to a several European titles, Arsenal Ladies coach Emma Hayes
will bring her expertise to Chicago as the inaugural head coach and director of soccer operations
for Chicago Women's Professional Soccer (WPS). Chicago general manager Marcia McDermott announced
the hire today at Toyota Park, where the franchise will [.
Here are the rest of the posts, enjoy! White - Why we failed in Europe Arsenal.com reporter Matt
Fortune brings you an exclusive Q&A with Arsenal captain Faye White. Read on to see what the
England defender made of the 'Double' winning campaign, her own delight to be playing again after a
serious injury, the strength in depth in the Ladies squad and her desire to hoist the Uefa Women's
Cup once
First off, I love cycling. A lot. I love football, a lot. But I have to work. A lot. Those student
loans won't pay themselves off (wouldn't that be great). But, if I didn't have to work, I probably
would have stayed up all night. Because the Olympics Men's Road Race (you know, cycling) that
started at 11 pm?
Arsenal Ladies' season begins on Sunday (for those of you living in the UK, more about tickets
here.) and the BBC has a nice preview about the Ladies. Basically, this is the first time UK teams
will be able to pose a challenge for them. I'm excited, because it means the league is growing, but
kind of sad because this could be the end of Arsenal's dominance.
First off, The FA has a list of all the fixtures for the Women's Premier League, with a separate
results list as well. Aside from the bright orange color (ugh), it's really kind of awesome. They
also have a really nice preview of the season and their front page has a lot of great news about
the league and teams.
The Arsenal Ladies beat Charlton 6-2 over the weekend. Rachel Yankey had a hat trick, while Gilly
Flaherty, Kim Little and Kelly Smith scored a goal a piece. DC only managed a draw, and it was a
rather depressing end to what could have been a spectacular game. Arsenal won 4-0 and I
"watched" while working Saturday morning.
I can't watch DC's game tonight because of work. Though if I'm lucky and the internet is working
properly, I might catch the end of it after I get home from work. Anyway, here are my interesting
links of the day. Arsenal Ladies to face Everton in League Cup: The Arsenal Ladies have drawn
Everton at home in the second round of the League Cup.
I totally support this move. I like Arshavin and enjoyed his playing in Euros. I actually liked his
strike partner better, but hey, we need someone who is creative and I think Arshavin fits that
bill. At least, if Wenger things he'll work, then I support that. Also, I think Arsenal need to
just let Adebayor go.
The FA Women's Community Shield was today. Apparently it was a tight 0-0 match until the 72nd
minute, when Kelly Smith scored for Arsenal. The Ladies were victorious, beating Everton 1-0 in the
end. I'll post a link to Arsenal's match report whenever it's finally posted. For now, here's the
official match report as well as one from the BBC.
