Jack Wilshere is bidding to bring some silverware to the Arsenal next season and have the chance
to goad former Gunners star Samir Nasri in the process.
Nasri won the Premier League title with Manchester City and wasted no time in throwing his
success in the faces of Gooners who had blasted him for his move to the Etihad Stadium and cited
money as his motivation.
ARSENAL fans of a certain vintage have a net full of cherished memories of David Rocastle, sadly
taken from us aged just 33 some 11 years ago.
Today is Rocky's birthday and if he were not looking down on us from Highbury in the sky he'd
have been 45. It's little wonder that Rocky lives on in the hearts of thousands of Gooners after
his tragic passing from cancer.
It's not often you get to share the spotlight with a proper football legend, 12,000 delirious
Arsenal fans, a national treasure and a TV audience of a good few million. But I did. Oh, and did I
mention all of this took place on the pitch at White Hart Lane after a glorious Gunners victory?
The Gunners ended the season with relegation form – 2W,3L,6D – in the final eleven games of
the season. The fact that this form came straight after a horror fortnight that saw heartbreak in
all the Cup fixtures, including the Carling Cup final, means that even the most positive of Gooners
are finding it hard to sustain the faith.
I want to start with a mention of the PFA awards and the Team of the Year. Congratulations to
Wilshere for picking up the Young Player of the Year award, and deservedly so. Gareth Bale was
chosen as the Player of the Year and Nasri came in second. And in case you haven't seen it, the
team of the year is,
Van der Saar – Sagna, Vidic, Kompany, Cole – Nani, Nasri, Wilshere, Bale – Tevez,
Berbatov.
Ever since Arsenalinsider released the design for the away shirt for the next season there has
been a great deal of chatter about it, understandably so. I was surprised by the strong negative
opinion generated by the design.
The reason for my astonishment is not that I find the shirt amazing or anything like that.
