After a long time, Europe's premier competition has thrown up a few surprises and plenty of
excitement. At the time of the draw few, if any, would have expected United to bow out. Fewer still
would have expected the Gunners to qualify from a tough group before the other three English clubs
and with a game to spare.
Hot Prospects: 13 English young players to watch in 2012 is a post from: Just Football
Who says there's a dearth of English talent coming through at youth level? After
disappointment for England's youngsters at international level in 2011 here are 13
youngsters tipped for great things in 2012 and beyond courtesy of Aidan R, editor of

The new left-back Andre Santos might not be Arsenal's only Brazilian footballer for much longer, as
it is being reported that Arsene Wenger is trying to find a new striker he can bring to the team
this January. The Mirror states that he has eyed Tottenham's summer transfer target Leandro Damiao,
who is currently at [.
Hold on, calm down, deep breaths.... hear me out, then shout/speak/swear !!
Before I start my reasoning, if you can call it that, I want to say how much I love Robin to
bits, he is just the kind of Captain the club needed after being diddled somewhat by the last few.
His goals this year, in particular this season, have potentially saved us from a major crisis.
Any change? Any change? Sunderland striker Nicklas Bendtner shocked diners in his native Denmark by
resorting to begging for someone to buy him a late night pizza. The on-loan Arsenal man called into
Pizza Huset after a drunken night out with actress Julie Zangenberg. With a taxi waiting outside,
Bendtner ordered two pizzas.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has responded to rumors linking the Gunners with French midfielder
Yoann Gourcuff. Despite a dazzling array of skills, Wenger insists that he's not interested in
signing Gourcuff in the January transfer window, and instead pointed to the return of some of his
star players such as Jack Wilshere.
At this stage of the season and given how well the club has done since that awful start to the
season, the last news you would want to read is that we're going to be patient with the contract of
Robin Van Persie. This is our captain, our inspiration and quite literally has dragged us all the
way up the table.

What a result! Tough game, battling performance, well-earned points. Not vintage but victorious
nonetheless.
I was surprised to see Coquelin in the starting line-up at Right Back as Arsene has said in the
past the youngster doesn't isn't suited to the role. Perhaps it was due to Miquel's errors at
City.

Despite all the talk about the potential effect of the loss of van Persie or other players like
Song and Walcott to injury (to Arsenal's ambitions), Arsene Wenger has still ruled out signing
players to back up the key men in the January transfer window. "At the moment, I do nothing in
January," he said.
No boss, I don't want to go to a press conference.
For all the talk of boring group stage, at least this season's one has been slightly different.
It wasn't the walk in the park it was the previous few seasons. Praise is given where praise is
merit. Olympiacos, Marseille and Borussia Dortmund provided stiff resistance but we've managed to
come out on top.

With a nod to the fact that Arsenal are set to celebrate their 125th birthday later this
afternoon by unveiling three new statues (Tony Adams, Thierry Henry and Pascal Cygan I believe)
outside the Emirates, we thought we'd have a look at the seven most ridiculous, ill-conceived and
borderline offensive effigies that have either graced or continue to grace stadiums and the like
around the world.
It was an emotional day at Arsenal yesterday, as the club unveiled three statues to celebrate the
heroes of the club's 125th birthday. Former manager Herbert Chapman, club cuptain Tony Adams and
record goalscorer Thierry Henry were honoured, and Henry made an emotional speech to mark the
occasion, tears in his eyes as he described [.

The legends descended on the hallowed turf of the Grove. This is probably the first time that
I've ever used hallowed turf and new-ish stadium in the same sentence. For me (and I'm sure many
others too), Highbury remained the truly real Arsenal stadium. However, with each match/season and
the growing memories, not forgetting the continual Arsenalisation of the stadium, Emirates Stadium
is turning into home.
While nothing continues to go on in MLS per se, there remains a bit of an offseason shuffle for
loans and trades. There's been talk of some pretty huge names going across the pond, be it for a
trade or a loan, and regardless of whether the rumors have any actual merit. That said, we could
see some big moves in the near future.
Arsene Wenger was more relieved than over-the-moon after Arsenal's late winner against Aston Villa
yesterday. Wenger admitted that he knew it would be a diificult game at Villa Park as it always has
been historically. He said: "You go to City and then to Villa and I have to give fantastic credit
to my players, [.
German striker Lukas Podolski is being linked with Arsenal (again?) after the English club sent
scouts to the Cologne star's match against Borussia Monchengladbach.
Podolski is thought to fit the mold of a partner for Robin van Persie to help tempt the
goal-scoring Dutchman to stick around.

For once I would like to make an exception and talk about a game of that other club in North
London. Not because of the football but because of the fact that in this game I can show at why

There have been many talks about the potential signing of Eden Hazard from Lille or Mario Gotze
from Borussia Dortmund to Arsenal recently, especially after the Gunners lost Nasri and Fabregas in
the recent summer. A creative spark from midfield is extremely essential if Arsenal are to push for
any sort of major honours in [.
Organisation, the people and the way they work three reasons why Arsenal's Andre Santos opted for
the Gunners during the summer transfer window. Speaking to Arsenal Player, the Brazilian was full

I think that was the best Arsenal have played this season. Wigan got some joy in the opening
10-15 minutes but it was one-way traffic after that. The hosts also showed more of a fight in the
second half but Arsenal were just too strong in all areas. I don't want to do a event by event
analysis of such a game but want to use Wenger's post game interview as the foundation for this
piece as the Boss' summary was sublimely succinct and accurate.
Although Arsenal's senior team performed brilliantly against Wigan yesterday, Arsene Wenger will
field the youngsters for all to see once again on Tuesday night. The second string of players
combined with youngsters will play against Olympiacos in the last group stage match in the
Champions League. With Arsenal already topping the group, the match is [.
This season's Premier League is more difficult to predict than any other in recent history. The
title race is a genuine two horse race: Man United's supremacy has finally been challenged by Man
City, and the relegation battle is anyone's call. With so much unpredictability about, football

It may only be the 3rd round, but the FA Cup's draw has produced some real crackers.
Sixty-four sides still have the potential to reach Wembley on cup final day, and 32 matches will
be played to see who progresses into the fourth round.
Here are five of the best ties to look out for:

This Black Country derby isn't possible in the top flight this year following City's relegation
last season, but the Blues have done well both domestically and on the continent under Chris
Hughton.
Make some tea or crack a can of lager, and read the preview.
Our kids and fringe players (and Vermaelen and Santos) are in Greece, looking to get some
experience against a good side that needs to win to ensure they get anything out of the group
stage.
I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (not to be mistaken for
Coquelin), Frimpong and Coquelin, as well as Yennaris and Miquel, who I thought played fairly well
out-of-position against a strong City side in the Carling Cup.
The Arsenal legend, the top scorer in club history gets teary eyed at the unveiling of his
statue, part of the club's 125th anniversary. Arsene Wenger looks on like a strict father expecting
his favorite child to say the right thing.
Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny showed his appreciation for team-mate Robin van Persie

The 22 year old defender Kieran Gibbs has been at Arsenal since 2004. Trained under the youth coach

I am sure that Arsenal could survive by not buying another defender in January, but after today's
news that Andre Santos is set to be on the treatment table for at least three months, it is time
for Wenger to think seriously. I said today that Arsenal need Santos back ASAP, but now I have
