People please, calm down, I don't want to be an asshole here, but if you've read some of my
opinionated posts in the past, you know I'm not above it. Clint Dempsey is good. In fact, he's my
favorite current US player, but he is not in the same class of Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres, and
Cristiano Ronaldo. Not even close. Those are world class players and Dempsey is at least two levels
below that at just good.
He may only be just out of his teens but Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas has already been hailed as the
best midfielder in the world. But, he's not the only young whippersnapper currently making a name
for himself in the Premier League, which is fast becoming a creche for the world's emerging
football talent. We've put together a first XI of the brightest young stars in the league – and
no Mr.
Some football fans constantly have their heads in the clouds. Dreaming of European glory and
talking up the team when all else can quite clearly see, their side are distinctly average. We all
know 'em, but some sides are more guilty than others. Now, for pub ammo and abuse, we have some
proof! Littlewoods Football Pools (www.footballpools.com) has just produced the new ‘Football
Fan-tasy' report which reveals which football fans live in the biggest world of fantasy.
You can see Gareth Bale's nasty free kick here. The last two goals by Fabregas and Adebayor are
just ridiculous.
The first one is a header by Adebayor from a Fabregas free kick.
Fabregas' stunner.
Not to be undone, Adebayor with a superb blast.
Diaby's stellar strike from outside of the box to make it 1-0.
magnifique!!! but arsenal extra

Here's a different view of it. First goal of the day and probably the goal of the day.
Arsenal 1 0 Derby County Diaby
Uploaded by oumar93160
Adebayor is set up deep in Derby territory by Fabregas.
You know the drill – one kick to hit the bar from the centre circle while you're teammates goad
you from behind, especially if they're William Gallas. Arsenal aren't used to launching long
balls...and it shows. There are near misses by a couple of players but Senderos comes closer to the
corner flag. Eventually there's a winner, but you'll never guess who.
Blackburn Rovers midfielder and all-round Goldilocks Robbie Savage has accused Arsenal of being
'hypocrites' for attacking Rovers' 'physical' play. Gunners striker Robin Van Persie attacked Mark
Hughes' side claiming that a Rovers player had stood on Cesc Fabregas' neck, and that Blackburn
players had 'crossed the border' of acceptability in their play.
This has to be one of my favourite Shit Lookalikes for a while, so many thanks to Dave Harris (who
edits his own fine Fulham blog, The Hammy End Chronicle) for sending it in. For younger readers,
DeBarge is an RnB singer who was big in the 80s. If DeBarge played football, he'd also be a shoo-in
for his own Horror Hair entry. For more Arsenal news and views, check out Arsenal Pies
With his Zen-like calmness it's easy to dismiss Arsene Wenger's claims as pure optimism – but
maybe we should start listening more. He was right when he said his team could go a full season
without being beaten and that his youngsters would prove their European pedigree when they reached
the Champions League final. And now his dubious forecast that Arsenal's transformed team will
challenge for the Premier League is looking almost inevitable.
Some are ridiculously nasty while others are just ridiculous. Features FC Dallas' Denilson back in
the day, Blanco in his younger years, Pele, Ronaldo, Dennis Bergkamp, Robbie Fowler, and some
really annoying music (you've been forewarned). Cheers.
I don't know if words can describe the joy that I had watching Arsenal defeat Sevilla 3-0 on
Wednesday. It was the exact opposite of the Liverpool-Porto match on Tuesday. In fact, if they were
movies, Arsenal-Sevilla would be Caddyshack...
So here we have it. League leaders Arsenal are ready to take on Derby, a team that has been labeled
as the worst ever to play in the Premiership. They have been living up to this label, losing 4-0 to
Tottenham and 6-0 to Liverpool and 1-0 to Manchester City in their first three away games this
season. They were admittedly given a tough opening schedule, and a visit to the Emirates will not
do
The Premier League weekend is likely to be overshadowed by Jose Mourinho's exit (dismissal) from
Chelsea, something that has also overshadowed the minor injury crisis at Liverpool as Daniel Agger
and Xabi Alonso are out for 6 weeks following metatarsal injuries. No chance to breath though, as
we've got some exciting close fixtures, 2 one-sided [...
Aston Villa 2, Chelsea 0 Is it Liverpool's season? According to this result, Chelsea's
'dominate-but-still-lose-and/or-tie-the-game' mentality is still fresh in their mind. Villa
converted their chances behind $7 million dollar man Zatyiah Knight and rising young'un Gabriel
Agbonlahor. Knight provided his strike in the opening minutes of the second half, while Agbonlahor
caused a riot with [.
I posed the question yesterday as to which club had more heart - Arsenal or Liverpool - and I must
tell you how wonderful the responses I received were. Both sets of fans answered the question
honestly and I was...
It's always nice to get a clean sheet and score several goals, no matter who the opposition. This
is nothing to get excited about however, for it was only Derby, albeit a Derby side who managed to
somehow beat Newcastle in their last match. Still, away from home they've already lost heavily to
both Tottenham [...]
Uefa maintain that they'll leave the Grant situation for the Premier League to solve - a polite way
of telling the English to firm up and police themselves. While the Premier League scrambles to find
its pair of strap-ons (balls!), there are some juicy matchups taking place this weekend. As always,
you can make your [...]
By 1970's Gooner Eduardo Da Silva bagged another goal for his adopted country, Croatia, to make it
nine goals in this qualifying campaign. Croatia put six past the hapless Andorrans in front of a
crowd of just 200 spectators and are now top of England's group. Srna opened the scoring from a
free kick. Portsmouth's Niko Kranjcar also got on the score sheet.
While Nike brought out a "Best Team You've Never heard of" in the lead up to the Women's World Cup,
in trying to espouse on the brilliance of the US National Womens' Soccer Team, some pub regulars in
Birmingham had the opposite ideas. Being footballers who are generally crap, and turning out for
their lowly Lynam [...]
Tottenham 1, Arsenal 0. Still in progress.
First goal came on a deflected shot from Chucky Magic (aka Fabregas). The young Spaniard then finds
Van Persie in the box from a free kick. Finally, Hleb sets Dudu up.
- According to Arsene Wenger, Arsenal is at a breaking point concerning it's ownership. The French
manager is vehemently against foreigners buying controlling stake in the club and singles out the
Glazer model at Manchester United as what is wrong with football. His reaction come as Russian
billionaire Alisher Usmanov has increased is stake to 23% in the London club.
Jens Lehmann's career at Arsenal is turning out to be a mess. After two awful blunders in Arsenal's
first two Premier League matches and an average performance against England in Germany's
international at Wembley, Lehmann came down with an "injury"...
- A survey published in Jane's Police Review has named Chelsea, Manchester United, and Leeds fans
as the worst. According to the linked article, "the three clubs were most likely to attack officers
or be racially or sexually abusive." The whole article, though brief, is pretty interesting in
itself and I recommend all to read it.
- One of the Liverpool owners, Tom Hicks, has been prodding around the NASCAR market supposedly
looking for a team in which to invest.
We've heard arguments about how the influx of foreign players is hurting English football (and have
those arguments suitably refuted). Now we have Jonathan Moynihan, a Barcelona fan, talking about
why foreign players give the Premier League its much-vaunted 'elite' status. It's not surprise to
anyone who keeps up in today's futbol world that EPL is [.
It seems not so long ago, pundits predict the fall of Arsenal when their talisman Thierry Henry
opted to move to Barcelona. And when they failed to find a big name replacement, criticism and
doubts whether they can compete for the title was no big secret, with many already dismissed them
as title contenders.
Two stunning long range from Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor saw Arsenal brush aside north
London rivals Tottenham 3-1 at White Hart Lane to go top of the premiership.
Here are my picks for the top strikes from yesterday. Click on the link to see the clip.
Cheers.
1. Ranger's Charlie Adam with a curling strike in the box that eludes the Stuttgart keeper.
2. Fenerbahçe's Deivid de Souza with a superb effort reminiscent of Zidane's swinging kick goal a
few years back.
3. Simone Perrotta puts AS Roma up 1-0 on Dynamo Kiev with a difficult header off a cracker of a
cross from Max Tonetto.
With Sven winner of August's manager of the month award and Micah Richards receiving the player of
the month gong, I thought it might be interesting to try to build a complete ‘team of the first
month and a half'. Many questions arise when considering such a team: should it just be a
collection of [...]
By 1970's Gooner Arsenal have signed Lassana Diarra from Chelsea for about £2 million. Diarra 22,
was in the final year of his contract. He was brought in from French club Le Havre in 2005 as a
natural replacement for Makelele. But Chelsea still have Makelele on their books having agreed a
one year extension to his contract. They also have Michael Essien, Steve Sidwell and John Obi Mikel

What is it with the current craze of overweight and overpriced coffee table tomes? If you've got
some extra money to spend, or simply need something substantial to put your beer on while you watch
TV, check out the Arsenal Opus, and hear how Arsene Wenger might, er, snap (in half) one of these

So much to say about this and I am sure I'll be rehashing it over the next few days but after
Arsenal's 3-1 comeback victory over Tottenham and scoreless draws for Liverpool and Chelsea and the
Gunners are top of...
Arsenal have overtaken both Chelsea and Manchester United to become the second richest football
club in the world, behind only Real Madrid. The move to the Emirates stadium is said to be
responsible for £190 million gunners turnover for the 2006/07 season. With the most expensive
tickets in the Premiership, it is not too startling that Arsenal earn a massive £3.
I wasn't too bad on my predictions from yesterday. I forgot to factor in 'referee error', which is
probably why I got the Liverpool-Porto and AC Milan-Benfica results off. I'm not so sure that was a
penalty for Porto and if it was, then Liverpool deserved the same later in the match. With their
horrid play, the Reds had no business winning the fixture anyhow, but I should have known better
than not to consider they were playing in Portugal.
Surprisingly enough, the readers of this blog decided that Manuel Almunia is the best of Arsenal's
keepers. It seems as though Jens Lehmann's blunders (and temper) were enough to turn Arsenal fans
away from the angry German. Results: Who deserves the number 1 jersey at Arsenal? Jens Lehmann -
42% Manuel Almunia - 58% I have to disagree with my readers here.
By 1970's Gooner One of the most satisfying aspects of last night's performance is that the style
of football played throughout all the Arsenal teams from the youth level to the first team is the
same. It is a style of football that has been labeled "beautiful" which very few teams in the world
play. And this is instilled in the young guns from the moment they walk through the Academy doors.
The top 12 are separated by 3 points, the top 4 are on 10 points and theoretically speaking,
Manchester United are only, at most, 5 games off the pace while Chelsea are 3 points off. However,
Liverpool are top on goal difference (courtesy of Derby) followed by Arsenal and then Everton, and
for these teams, [...]
It's almost anticlimactic now since it's been hinted at since before the season began but Arsenal
will officially announce tomorrow that Arsene Wenger will be staying at Ashburton Grove through
2011. Rejoice fellow Gooners, rejoice! Wenger has not only changed...
Many assumed Thierry Henry's departure could mean a mass exodus of the French influence from the
Gunners. Arsene Wenger has decided to dispel that rumor and sign on for three more years after some
speculation that he would leave when vice-chairman David Dein left in the Spring - truth is,
where else could you see him? The once free-spending, upstart [.
By Eros, Arsenal Analysis resident season ticket holder at the Emirates (North Upper Stand Row Q) I
know it's wrong as it's too early but I am getting very excited by the prospect of what this team
can achieve THIS year. Some passages of play against Portsmouth were a joy to watch. When our
forwards begin to get it together even more, then we are due a very big score soon, very soon.
Wenger has signed on the dotted line. Phew! What a relief, though I somehow expected it to
happen. No other manager (arguably) in the history of football has so much control over a club.
With the vision he has, it is perceivable to see how he got to that position. No owners to tell you
how to run the club and no primadonnas to impede with your work.
