The high-profile friendly season was supposed to be over. Big European clubs had already come
and gone, staging exhibitions in front of nearly-sold out stadiums across the country. Kansas City
was one of few MLS markets that appeared to be left out.
News out of Kansas City is that this is about to change, with the Wizards announcing that
Arrowhead stadium will play host to a friendly of Club America and Chivas Guadalajara.
Club America and arch rivals Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Chivas) will play at Arrowhead Stadium
next Wednesday, Mexican Independence Day, September 16 at 8:30 p.m. CT.
Tickets can be purchased by visiting the KC Wizards office at 8900 State Line Road in Leawood,
KS or calling 913.387.3400. If you're outside of the immediate KC area, call us toll-free at
1-877-828-7222.
Today, both Club America and Chivas Guadalajara trained at our Swope Park Training Center ahead of
tomorrow's Clasico Bud Light at Arrowhead Stadium. We will reiterate again that tomorrow's game
will be a big zoo, so please don't rely on walk-up tickets. If you're interested in coming to the
game, give us a call at 913.
According to this article in the Kansas City Buisness Journal the stadium that was due to open in
2011 looks increasingly unlikely to open then:
A developer working on the $1 billion mixed-use redevelopment of the Bannister Mall area said hopes
of getting the proposed $130 million Kansas City Wizards soccer stadium opened there by 2011 are
growing dim.
The bid committee overseeing the USA's push for the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup has pared down
its list of potential venues to 45 stadiums in 37 cities (37? In a row?) and has issued RFPs to
them. The initial list had a lot of college stadiums and other stadiums that didn't have a chance
in hell of hosting World Cup matches, and this one has a few as well.
The Kansas City Wizards first played in Arrowhead Stadium (home of the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs
in Kansas City, Missouri), and created quite the echo chamber with attendance barely in five
figures in a stadium holding 80,000. Then in 2007, they moved to a stadium that barely holds five
figures, CommunityAmerica Ballpark (home of minor league baseball team the T-Bones in Kansas City,
Kansas), an oddly angled fit for soccer and too small for the Wizards.
Guest post time! In keeping with AMSL's series on MLS, Elliot Tucker, author of the fantastic
futfanatico.com, tells the story of how the fan culture irrevocably changed after the Wizards moved
from MO to KS. Enjoy!
When you hear the word cauldron, a host of cool words come to mind.
Arrowhead Stadium and other stadium sites around the Kansas City region have been named on the
short list of 70 sites that were contacted by the US Soccer Federation about the USA's upcoming
bids for the 2018 and the 2022 World Cup. Included with Arrowhead was Faurot Field in Columbia, MO,
the Edward Jones Dome in St.

We are the American City, and we want to be a part of the USA Bid.
That's right folks, Kansas City is still in the running to serve as a host city for the FIFA World
Cup should the USA win the bid to host the 2018 or 2022 event. The USA Bid Committee announced the
27 cities and 32 venues about 45 minutes ago.
Lots of hype going on around our bid to host FIFA World Cup matches should the USA bid be
successful in 2018 or 2022. Make sure to comment on these stories wherever possible and let them
know that your excited about the potential of games coming to KC. Also, sign the petition at

This entire summer there have been big name clubs from around the world playing in the United
States as part of their preseason. Unfortunately none of those games have been in KC. That looks
like it will be changing in September. Rumor had been around that there would be a friendly at
Arrowhead between Club America and Chivas de Guadalajara in September.
Claudio Lopez playing the ball in the FIFA Club World Cup while still with Club America in December
of 2006.
As you have probably seen this morning (or late yesterday) on the KC Star website or on Mike's Down
the Byline, we are hosting a match between Claudio Lopez's former team Club America and arch rivals
Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Chivas) at Arrowhead Stadium.
SUMmer of Soccer Continues
The 'Summer of Soccer' which began on June 20, rolls on. As of now, over 1,455,000 have attended
SuperLiga, the Gold Cup, the World Football Challenge and a variety of club and international
friendlies.
Since my last post on the SUMmer of Soccer, an International Friendly doubleheader was played
and a few more friendlies were scheduled .
The Wizards dropped game 2 of the East Coach roadie 1-0 tonight to D.C. United at RFK. The guys
generated multiple quality opportunities in the first half, but we couldn't put one away. Next up
is New York on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT on Metro Sports.
· Kansas City is now 13-17-8 all-time against D.
Earlier this month I posted about how Arrowhead Stadium and other regional stadiums were on the
original 70 stadium list for the US' World Cup bid in 2018 and 2022. All 3 stadiums that were on
the list from the state of Missouri have expressed an interest in hosting the World Cup. Arrowhead,
Faurot Field and the Edward Jones Dome all expressed interest in hosting games.
The list of stadium candidates for the USA's 2018 and 2022 World Cup bid has been narrowed down
from 58 to 45. Among those stadiums that are still in the running, is Kansas City's Arrowhead
Stadium and St. Louis' Edward Jones Dome. The USSF will now work with the cities and will hope to
have their list set by May of 2010.
The USSF once again cut down the list of potential sites to host the World Cup should the US win
the 2018 or the 2022 bid to host. Kansas City and Arrowhead Stadium have made the cut for the next
round along with 26 other cities. The committee will name 18 sites for the final bid that the US
will put forward.
From the press release: "The USA Bid Committee Inc. announced Thursday that Kansas City and
Arrowhead Stadium are one of 27 cities and 32 venues, down from 70 initial stadia in 52 cities, on
the short list to be included in the United States' bid to host the FIFA World Cup™ in either
2018 or 2022. The USA Bid Committee will submit their bid to world soccer's governing body,

We have repeatedly written about the Wizards' effort to find a permanent stadium home. After
months of negotiations and competition, the Wizards have announced that they will break ground on
their new stadium in Kansas. Kansas and the local county have offered $230 million in incentives
to lure Cerner and the Wizards to Kansas.
It's a possibility. U.S. Soccer released the list of stadiums and municipalities contacted about
becoming a World Cup host venue should our country win the bid for either the 2018 or 2022 FIFA
World Cups. In all, 50 metro areas and 70 stadiums are on the full list. Check that out at
ussoccer.com.
US Soccerwire-NEW YORK (June 16, 2009) – The USA Bid Committee today announced it has
issued Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to officials representing 37 U.S. cities that currently
qualify as potential host cities to FIFA World Cup™ in 2018 or 2022.
In the months ahead, the USA Bid Committee will work with these 37 cities/markets with the
intention of announcing a final list of host cities/markets at the end of the year to be included
in the Bid Book that will be delivered to FIFA in May 2010.
Chris Wondolowski's late snap header earned San Jose all three points Saturday night in a game that
had been dominated by the goalkeepers until that point. Hartman made five saves to reach 1200
career stops. He is the first goalkeeper in MLS history to reach that mark. Cannon made seven saves
for the clean sheet.

We've been pretty busy giving lots of information on upcoming events here at Hillcrest Road lately.
In light of all the news, we figured it was time to put together a to-do list for area soccer fans.
Here it is:
1. Buy your tickets to this Saturday's Wizards contest against Real Salt Lake if you haven't
already.
Club America and arch rivals Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Chivas) will play at Arrowhead Stadium

There was a huge line just before the gates opened tonight at Arrowhead.
CD Guadalajara (Chivas) topped archrivals Club America 2-1 Wednesday night in front of a raucous
crowd of 26,119 in the Clasico Bud Light at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. America
opened the scoring in the 53rd minute before two late strikes propelled Chivas to a dramatic 2-1
win.

Tomorrow at Arrowhead Stadium, the KC World Cup bid committee and Kansas City mayor, Mark
Funkhouser will be hosting a press conference. Funkhouser is set to make "a major statement" about
the city's bid to host the World Cup in Kansas City. Since the announcement of the press conference
was made earlier today, I've been trying to figure out what the "major statement" by the mayor will
be.
Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser held a press conference at Arrowhead stadium to announce that he
had signed the Host City Agreement for Kansas City's World Cup Bid. This is another step in the
process to become one of the host cities for the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.Rick Hughes of the Kansas
City Convention & Visitors Association spoke about the predicted economic impact of $400-600
million for
