After almost 2 months of games, Major League Soccer has seen a significant drop in attendance in
several key markets. Is this reason for concern, a sign of today's struggling economy, or are
serious changes needed in these cities. First, let's look at which teams and markets are showing
significant drops in attendances numbers from last season.
Things are not looking good at the moment for the Wizards stadium at Hillcrest Road opening up in
time for the 2011 season. According to the Kansas City Business Journal, it looks like chances are
starting to get very slim for an opening in 2011. Due to the current state of the economy it's hard
for the developers to sign any retail or office tenants for the project.
The 2009 MLS regular season saw overall average attendance drop to an average of 16,037. Down from
last years 16,459. It did, though, see a new record for attendance set by the expansion Seattle
Sounders FC, who averaged 30,897 over the course of the season. Here are the averages of all the
teams in the league this year.
So if you didn't get a chance to accompany the Wizards to St. Louis to the game against Atlas,
it seems On Goal, who owns the Wizards, will let you use your "Special Game B" ticket to go
see the Chivas vs. America Super Clasico game to be held at Arrowhead on September 16.
As you probably remember, to watch the Super Liga game that I argued against having been played
in St.
I've received a few emails today asking why the SuperLiga game against Atlas is being played in St.
Louis and not in Kansas City. I've been told that there are a few reasons why the Wizards will be
playing this game on the opposite side of the state.
1. The obvious reason is that Community America Ballpark is unavailable due to the T-Bones already
having a home game scheduled for that date.
I've personally never felt as bad about a Wizards game as I did after last night's 6-0 drubbing at
the hands of FC Dallas. I mean I'm more embarrassed about this game than I was at the time of the
Chicago 7-0 debacle back in 2001. That's because for this game I'd spent hours in the car, and more
money traveling down to Dallas for this game than for the game at Arrowhead against the Fire.
In 2007, Hartland Arrowhead boys soccer coach...

This entire summer there have been big name clubs from around the world playing in the United
States as part of their preseason. Unfortunately none of those games have been in KC. That looks
like it will be changing in September. Rumor had been around that there would be a friendly at
Arrowhead between Club America and Chivas de Guadalajara in September.
In preparation for their match with Club America in the El Classico at Arrowhead tonight, Chivas
practiced at the Wizards training facility last night. The team ran through drills and did some
light scrimmaging.Luis Ernesto Michel punching the ball over the goal...While it was fun to watch a
team like Chivas practice, the real story was all the fans that turned out.
Today will be a busy day in KC Soccerland as the Season Ticket Holder Event takes place at our
Swope Park Training Center beginning at 4:30 p.m. CT. The Jimmy Conrad Show then airs live on
Sports Radio 810 WHB from 7-8 p.m. CT, followed by the Clasico Bud Light between Club America and
Chivas Guadalajara at 8:30 p.
So tonight was the big game out at Arrowhead between Chivas and Club America. First I want to touch
on a few other things.
Before the game tonight, the Wizards held a Season Ticket Holder Event out at the training facility
that included dinner and a Q&A session with Robb Heineman about the new stadium plan out at the
Legends as well as the plan out at Bannister.
For at least the next two games, the Mr. Goodcents Magic Minutes will take place between 25:00 on
the clock and 30:00 on the clock. If a Wizards player scores within that time period, all fans will
have the opportunity to redeem their ticket at any KC-area Mr. Goodcents restaurant for a free 8"
cold-sub sandwich for the seven days after the match.

There is a press conference scheduled for tomorrow at Arrowhead. It is supposed to be a major
announcement by Mayor Funkhouser. My guess is that they are announcing that Kansas City is in the
final 18 cities. That announcement is scheduled for December and it would be big enough to warrant
a press conference.
Enjoy the festivities tonight everyone, but make sure to be careful. Thanks to all our readers and
Wizards supporters for your viewship and fanhood in 2009 and the decade of the 00's. We look
forward to kicking off the 10's with a bang in 2010!
What was your favorite memory from the 00's?
Mr. John Kristick of the USA Bid Committee receives a Kansas City Wizards jersey from David Ficklin
and George Brett looks on.
We've said it here many times before, and we won't stop saying it. Please go online and sign the
petition to support the USA's (and by extension, Kansas City's) bid to host FIFA World Cup games in
2018 or 2022.
Five years ago yesterday for Wizards fans will bring many mixed feelings. Yesterday was the five
year anniversary of Lamar Hunt announcing that he was putting the Wizards up for sale. I say that
this brings mixed feelings because at the time it brought rage, fear, and frustration to most if
not all Wizards fans.
Amy Kauffung (Hartland Arrowhead) scored as the 1992 Region II team rolled past
its Region IV counterparts 4-1 on Monday at the U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Girls
Winter Interregional in Ridgeland, Miss.
Kauffung, who plays club soccer for FC Milwaukee, opened the scoring in the 13th minute as the
Region II side improved to 2-0 at the event, having beaten Region III 1-0 in its opener Sunday.
At least five of the high school seniors who verbally committed to play for the University of
