Historically, battles for bridges have often defined the context and eventual outcomes of war.
Severing the connectivity between two groups of the opposing army, or preventing further advances
over an otherwise insurmountable barrier usually seemed like a good way to gain an advantage for
the longer term.

Thai international striker Sarayoot Chaikamdee is reportedly joining Army United. The former Thai
Port player spent last season with Bangkok Glass where he scored 15 goals during the 2011 TPL.
Where that leaves Army striker Leandro is unclear. The Brazilian hit 18 goals last season for the
team nicknamed The Gentlemen!

Chelsea's erratic first half of the 2011/12 campaign may have all but ended their title dreams,
but the news that Ghanaian midfield supremo Michael Essien is back in action will surely give AVB
and his army of Blues' fans a right old boost.

Two small pieces of news before we get on with the Player Of The Year discussion:
*Steve Nicol turned down the Rapids interview request. There was some talk about him being
uncomfortable with the environment here, but all along I thought getting Nicol out of Boston, where
he's been for 13 years, would be a long shot.

Vietnam is having another one of its little tournaments. The Navibank Cup 2011 is due to be held in
Ho Chi Minh City 2-10 December and, according to Viet Football, will feature Geylang United and
Chonburi as well as T&T Hanoi, Navibank Saigon and Binh Duong.
Which is all well and good. But according to the Thai Premier League fixture list, admittedly as
reliable as an English red top, Chonburi are playing Army United on 3 December.
Left, right, left, right Unassuming Spurs defender Sebastien Bassong was making his way to the warm
the bench for last night's win over Aston Villa when he found his route unexpectedly narrowed by
representatives from the Army who led the teams out as part of the Tickets for Troops scheme.
Visibly taken aback at first, [.
Much is made of the booming interest in the Thai Premier League but I wonder how booming it really
is. Yes, 2009 was a good season but instead of consolidating or improving, 2010 was a mess and so
is the current season for reasons I have covered before.
But how about attendances? Are the fans supporting their local team?

When you consider the amount of hot air, high fashion, alcohol and misbehaviour that generally
occurs when awards are dished out, you'd think we'd have a staff member whose only job is to sniff
out those nominations.
Well, we don't.
Generally, if we learn we've been nominated it's too late and even if we win, we're too
disorganised to go to the ceremony.
'The bench was nearer to my kids': Carlos Tevez's top 10 excuses
So Carlos Tevez now says it was all a misunderstanding and he did not refuse to play at Bayern
last night. No word yet on how the misunderstanding occurred... but here are our Twitter Army's
suggestions at some excuses he might come up with.
The Austin Aztex will be back playing soccer next year just as they were when they started out in

back involved in the action any time soon.

Green Army Don't mention the war. Usually it is a good idea for an irreverent football blog to keep
clear of international conflicts – they go together about as smoothly as Gervinho's scalp and
dreadlocks. That said OTP has perused such a treasure trove of farcical facts on the ‘football
career' of a key figure [.

It was forty years ago today that illustrator Roger Hargreaves launched his Mr Men children's

Mirror Football we could think of no better way to pay tribute to this landmark than to give the
footballing personalities we all know and love a Mr.

New chants for the new season
The 2011/12 season is almost upon us and we'll need some new chants. Here are some suggestions

Not every supporters group has it as good as the Timbers Army
This past Saturday the New England Revolution played against the Chicago Fire at home.
Naturally, as is the custom with all MLS teams, the supporters went to their respective positions
and began doing what supporters do best: singing, chanting, screaming, being
passionate.
Possibly the closest category to call, this split our voters - divided by micro and macro concerns.
At the latter level, the usual suspects are there: the primary interviewee on Lord Sugar Tackles
