We've been a bit lax about posting lately. Mea culpa and all that. I went on a bit of a medical
safari, travelling to Munich, Germany to have football-hero Dr. Muschaweck fix my chronic
groin/pelvic pain, caused by a double sports hernia, just like DC United Captain Jaime Moreno. And
former Newcastle captain Alan Shearer.
AEK striker Michalis Pavlis helped Greece's Under-19 team to a 1-1 draw with Italy for the first
games of the group stages. Pavlis put Greece up fairly early on and it looked like Greece were
going to start the group stages with three points but the referee awarded Italy a penalty
in the 89th minute which they [.
How many days late with this am I? I guess just two. We played Xanthi Wednesday, lined up like
this: Kallon Blanco Rivaldo Lagos Edinho Kafes Bourbos Pliatsikas Papastathopoulos Dellas Macho And
though we didn't completely dominate the entire match, we played a better brand of football
overall.
It was painful to watch this game earlier tonight. A month ago, if I saw 4-0 it would bring a smile
to my face but now it forces me to turn my back. We played a very pathetic game today. Our offence
was much better than it was when we played PAO however, our defence [...]
Well, the rumours have been spreading since the end of last week that Dusan Bajevic would be
returning to his post as AEK manager for the third time in his career and this has officialy been
confirmed by the offical AEK FC website only minutes ago. Dusan Bajevic, who has coached AEK twice
previously is one [.
Alex is off on vacation and I've been busy at work, on my amatuer team AEK Baltimore (three games
in three days) and nursing a nasty case of Athletic Pubalgia, so we've let the blog slide a few
days. My apologies. The news has really started to pile up. AEK destroyed Turkish-side Ancaragucu
on Sunday in Austria.
We drew away at PAOK yesterday in the Dikefalo Derby, a match of two halves, the first exciting,
the second decidedly dull, both teams seemingly willing to settle for a draw rather than push and
probe and risk a costly mistake. Honestly, we were lucky to earn a point in this match. PAOK were
ready [.
The unconvincing performances under the leadership of Giorgos Donis, which started from this summer
when AEK played Omonia, have continued to be displayed by the team. AEK drew 3-3 away against
recently promoted Thrasivoulos after playing a game of football which if played against any other
team would have led to a much worse result [.
We're third. That's enough news for some of us. Others may want to know that: Although
Panathinaikos are top of the rankings, Olympiacos thrashed Panionios 4-0 to find themselves only
two points behind the leaders with a game in hand. Meanwhile, a resurgent PAOK thumped Aris 3-0.
We can't seemt to hold a 1-0 lead against a decent opponent. First, on March 2nd, we went ahead
against Panathinaikos early in the second half, but our defense appeared too permeable and an
equalizer looked inevitable from the 70th minute on (sure enough, it came shortly after the 80th).
Just a week earlier, we almost squandered [.
AEK plays Apollon Kalamarias on Sunday. Then, next week, the Greek National Team plays Portugal in
a rematch of the 2004 Euro final, which Greece famously won. Best of all, it appears Gekas is
back in top form for the match. Portugal's squad for the match looks like this. Rumors are
circulating in Greece that (a) [.
CAS oficially rejected Apollon Kalamarias today meaning that olympiacos are now, unfortunately,
champions. AEK FC's official website however shows the standings as oly with 67 points and AEK with
68 points. This now means that AEK will take place in the playoffs. Nothing right now, however, is
certain about when or even if the playoffs will take [.
I really dont know what goes on with this team. One day they put on a really poor display then,
five days later, they come back and play like the champions they are. AEK played a very good game
of soccer today that could have been 4-0 in favour of AEK. Each and every player [...]
Greece's UEFA Cup entrants, AEK and Aris, will discover their second qualifying round opponents
tomorrow in Nyon, France (14:00 GR, 7:00pm Eastern). Last year, both clubs avoided this round of
the tournament -- thanks to a high coefficient ranking for Greece; however, the high ranking is a
thing of the
Well, we won last Wednesday and we won again yesterday, but so did fellow title contenders
Olympiacos and Panathinaikos. And though Olympiacos didn't play last Wednesday, they still
registered a win and picked up three points thanks to a Greek Football Federation (EPO) decision
that overturned an earlier loss to Apollon Kalamarias.
We play Aris on Sunday at 1 PM EDT. This will be a tough match, though we will be helped by the
fact that we are playing at home and by the fact that Edinho, Blanco and Kallon are playing really
well together. After Sunday, the remainder of our regular season looks like this: 3/23 Apollon
Kalamarias [.
Well, I was wrong, we didnt get the win I was expecting, far from it. There really isnt much good
news to say about AEK from this match. AEK played a similar style of football to the how they were
playing earlier in the year at games such as our 2-1 loss to Iraklis at home [...]
Demis Nikolaidis, president of AEK recently held a meeting with Rivaldo with hopes of persuading
the Brazilian legend to reamin in Greece with AEK. Rivaldo has said that he needs time to think
about the situation but that there is a possibility that he will remain. He said that he would like
to ensure that [.
PAO is currently tied 0-0 with Aris in the 38th minute. A draw for Aris against PAO and a win for
AEK against PAO this wednesday at home for AEK will be enough to ensure that AEK finish first in
the Playoffs and can therefore qualify for Champions League. The squad for AEK's away match against
[...]
It was tough to watch, but that is not exactly a new feeling for us, is it? In the post-season
play-offs, we've conceded a much higher number of goals than we did during the regular season. The
team looks adrift, lost, without directions or purpose. In the post below, Alex gave us a good
match review [.
KL Plus finding it hard to get good players
PETALING JAYA: KL Plus FC are hard pressed to fill the vacuum left behind by their foreign players
for their debut in the Super League next year.
Team manager Husni Mohd Yusuf said that the attacking trio of Nigerian Alex Agbo and Brazilians
Tercio Nunes Machado and Andrin Dario Tranidad were instrumental in KL Plus' strong showing to
finish as the runners-up in the Premier League.
