Rafael Benitez has never hidden his admiration for South American players.
Argentines were at the core of his Valencia side but at Liverpool it is to Brazil that he is
turning to with increasing regularity. The surprise arrival of Vitor Flora means that there are now
four Brazilians in Liverpool's first team squad (Flora, Fabio Aurelio, Lucas Leiva and Diego
Cavalieri).

We now enter the direct elimination phase of Euro 2008. If the game is tied after 90 minutes, 30
minutes of extra time will be played.
Because being defeated by RSL is not humiliating enough, Fabian Espindola decided to show San Jose
what's what by doling out a few ass-tastic Argentine wedgies in SLC on Saturday. Widely regarded
throughout Latin America as both the most painful & humiliating of all wedgies for it's
simultaneous "pull & spank" maneuver, Argentine wedgies are second only to being traded
for Edson Buddle on the scale of disrespectful futbol moves.
In conjunction with Brazil getting done by Argentina today, here's a movie (23 minutes) of a
Brazilian getting done wrong by some Argentines. Be advised there is some harsh, offensive language
and hooligan-like behavior in Un Santo Para Telmo that I certainly am not endorsing. It's also
worth noting that the protagonist in this story doesn't deserve the rough treatment as where the
Brazilian team, with their lack of real bite in their performance this morning, where just asking
for it.
I am not versed on the particulars of the MLS 'discovery' process but I would think that
identifying talent as early as possible before another team does is pretty much the name of the
game. So if I was Jeff Agoos, Monday morning would find me posted up out front of MLS HQ, smoking
and drinking coffee waiting for them to open the doors, ready to file discovery papers on what is
currently a fetus.
Big ups to Columbus for doing the right thing and keeping Guillermo Barros Schellotto on and making
him the club's first designated player. They did the right thing by rewarding him for his
ridiculous play and rewarding the fans by not letting him slip away over money. Nice to see Hunt
Sports Group commit and marry their baby momma: Congrats Guille on becoming Mark McCullers'
"diamond girl".
We haven't had one of these in a good while, but damn was it a doozy when it arrived. TOR reader
KMA pointed this one from the Kansas City Star over the weekend. They had an article previewing the
Wizards-Chicago match that was heavy on the Blanco & Lopez as former teammates angle...good stuff
that I'd not read anywhere else.
If you were watching last night's U.S. game at home you may not know that there was a half-time pitch invasion by some Argentine fan. I don't think it's the best thing to do, but I would be a liar if I said I didn't find it more entertaining than I like to let on. It's sort of like going to Hooters but without the 'hooters'.
Argentina will field two of the footballing world's most exciting youngsters at the Men's Olympic
Football Tournament in Beijing. Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero, both 20 years of age, are expected
to lead a deep Argentine squad. In addition, the Argentines are set to call on Liverpool's
23-year-old midfielder Javier Mascherano, keen .
First, Moreno joined the league halfway through the 1996 season. Second, most reports stated
that DC United wasn't willing to give Gomez the number of guaranteed years he was asking for.
Third, thank you for not mentioning the other failed Argentines that have passed through RFK -
Donnet, Filomeno, and Niell.
Attention housekeepers. If you are currently employed by any one of the moderately-priced hotels in
and around Carson, CA be on the lookout for these two notorious conditioner enthusiast. They may
look like out of work musketeers but they are in fact Frankie Hejduk and Gino Padula of the
Columbus Crew.
So yeah, GBS is MVP and IMHO that is AOK. FWIW this piece in SI is also AOK.
What a difference a week makes! The US Soccer team showed well this weekend after two sub-par
performances against England and Spain the previous week.
Sunday Tim Howard put in one of the best performances by a US goalkeeper since Kasey Keller's 1998
effort against Brazil or Brad Friedel's run in the 2002 World Cup.
You really have to give it up to Javi Morales. When he came in last year he was just one of three
Argies that were airlifted into Utah at about the same time and he didn't really stand out to me.
But this season he was essential to RSL's recently-conceded campaign of not sucking. He really
showed up in almost every way; dude was scoring goals, feeding balls and conducting English as a
Second Language classes on-camera with The Great Unwashed™.
