The full fixture list for the Primera División A Torneo Apertura 2008 has been released.
Thanks to Seba for posting the fixtures when they were first announced in a comment last
night. Read on for the 'HEGS-approved' official list, with all the clásicos highlighted.
Except the single midweek date, which is noted, all these dates refer to [.
Oh, it's been a while. At long, long last the summer break is over, and I can get back to writing
about league action rather than transfer news and summer friendlies. There's been a lot of talk
about the new year's ticket price hikes - more on that at the weekend - but for now [...]
It's that time again. The tenth round of the 2008 Torneo Apertura is upon us, and with it comes one
of the world's biggest derbies: all eyes on the Monumental on Sunday, where River Plate will be
hosting Boca Juniors in another superclásico. There'll be big match buildup on HEGS as well as
live coverage [.
Here it is, ladies and gents: the final weekend of the Primera A Torneo Clausura 2008. River are
already champions, but there's still the small matter of relegation to sort out, and to that end
the weekend's most important match is the winner-takes-all game in Santa Fé, where Colón
host Racing. I'm in Nottingham on [.
The second round of the 2008 Torneo Apertura is almost upon us. This weekend, champions River Plate
host Rosario Central, last week's victorious newcomers to the division, San Martín de
Tucumán and Godoy Cruz, respectively visit Independiente and host San Lorenzo, and Boca
Juniors, who are in Barcelona on Saturday to appear in F.
Time marches on, and thus arrives the fourth weekend of the Primera A 2008 Torneo Apertura. This
weekend sees another clásico as River Plate welcome former player Santiago Solari back to
Argentine soil - he'll be stepping onto the pitch in San Lorenzo's colours against his old club.
Racing have a tricky assignment: they're away [.
We're getting towards the business end of proceedings now. Can San Lorenzo regain the initiative
after they finally got back to winning ways last weekend? Can River start afresh under assistant
boss Gabriel Rodríguez? Will Tigre get the wins (and results in other matches) they need for
Copa Libertadores qualification?
This weekend's fixtures see joint-leaders River and Boca host Arsenal and travel to Olimpo,
respectively. There's a relegation clash between Racing and San Martín which is must-win for both
sides, whilst the two sides crowned champions in 2007, San Lorenzo and Lanús, meet in the Nuevo
Gasometro.
The third weekend is already upon us, with Boca returning to league action after their holiday in
Catalunya by hosting Lanús. The champions are away to Banfield on Saturday, whilst it's an
all-Santa Fe Province clash between Rosario Central and Colón which kicks the weekend off.
Estudiantes, having finally won a match on Wednesday night [.
It's getting closer to the end now. There's a clásico which will prove important at both ends
of the table(s) in La Bombonera on Sunday, which will be the second derby of the weekend in the
stadium: Huracán aren't allowed to use the Tomás Ducó after all following the death
of Rodrigo Silva on Sunday [.
The penultimate round of the 2008 Torneo Clausura has arrived. The international break for World
Cup qualifiers next weekend means that the final round won't be played for two weeks, but whilst
relegation issues in the Promedio will go right to the wire, the title could be decided this
weekend. If River beat Olimpo in [.
The sixth round of fixtures is upon us already. Don't worry, you've not just lost five days of your
life; we're playing in midweek to catch up from the international break last week. Highlights of
this midweek round include River's quest for a decent performance continuing at home to Vélez,
a relegation clash between Godoy [.
The halfway point has arrived in the Torneo Apertura title race. There's a .35-pointer at the
bottom of the Promedio to kick things off - if Racing beat Central in Avellaneda they could,
depending on results elsewhere, move out of the relegation zone for the first time in living
memory. Leaders San Lorenzo travel to [.
The end is nigh. The title won't be decided this weekend but Newell's, Vélez and Colón
could drop out of the running if they lose. Things might look muddier by Saturday night: that's
when San Lorenzo take on Lanús in the Nuevo Gasómetro - an away win would catapult last
year's Apertura winners into the [.
This weekend sees a Monday evening match, a semi-clásico between Arsenal and San Lorenzo, and a
clash of first vs. second as Vélez host River. A bank holiday service announcement whilst you're
reading: I'm going to spend Good Friday and most of Saturday in London with a friend, so there
won't be any updates to [.
It's all domestic football this week. Without so much as time to take a breath, the seventh round
of the Apertura is already looming. There's an all-Sur clash between Arsenal and Banfield in
Sarandí, leaders San Lorenzo host Colón and Racing are in bad need of a win against the
newly managerless Estudiantes.
Struggling Central kick the weekend off against Lanús, who could add yet another team to the
title fray if other results go their way this weekend. Of the sides above the Granate, Newell's
visit Banfield, Tigre are away in the 'Elephants' Graveyard' to Colón, San Lorenzo host
Gimnasia de Jujuy and Boca visit Arsenal.
Vélez, needing a win to staz on the leaders' tails, will be trying their hardest to dump
Racing even deeper into the relegation mix-up on Friday evening. Champions Lanús host leaders
River on Sunday, and Saturday sees the clásico rosarino, the reverse of one of Central's only
two wins during the Apertura.
The endgame approaches in the Torneo Clausura. In the Promedio, Racing have to beat Gimnasia La
Plata no matter what, and even that probably won't make much difference to their fate. Frontrunners
Estudiantes host Independiente, whilst hot-on-their-heels River Plate are at home to Huracán.
There's even a Monday match this week - in El Coloso [.
Sunday is clásico day this weekend, with River hosting Racing in the country's oldest derby
before Gimnasia visit Estudiantes - as a genuine away team, for the first time in a few years - in
the La Plata derby. Boca - who beat Newell's 4-2 in the remaining match from round two on Thursday
afternoon [.
