Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign the exciting Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain
for €40 million (£34 million) as they look to strengthen their squad this summer.

The Premier League club are now weighing up whether to bid for the powerful Argentine
international should their attempts to sign Fernando Torres fail.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — World player of the year Lionel Messi will lead Argentina's attack
at the World Cup.
There was no room for veteran defender Javier Zanetti in coach Diego Maradona's provisional
squad for the tournament, however.
The contract negotiations between Pipita Higuain and Real Madrid have come, at least for
now, to a halt.
Higuain had initially asked for the same salary that his teammate Karim Benzema is being paid
(5.5 million euros per season) which Madrid flat out rejected.
Higuain then asked for a lower salary (4 million euros per season) which Madrid also
rejected.
Lio Messi scored the last two goals of the game in Barca's 4-0 stomping of
Sevilla.
Messi has now scored over 100 goals in his career so far with Barcelona.
Due to his lack of playing time with Genoa, Hernan Crespo has signed with Parma where he
played during 1996-2000.
