Kaká, Dunga and Adriano ponder tonight's clash with Argentina
Brazil head to Argentina today knowing that a win could see them qualify for next year's World
Cup in South Africa. Dunga's men need the three points in the estádio Gigante in Rosario and
require Colombia to beat Ecuador in Medellin earlier in the day.
"I'm looking for a Mr Capello?"
No World Cup is complete without a media-appointed Group of Death, the sort of quartet that
makes you wince just thinking about it.
Here are seven of the most memorable GoDs in World Cup history:
1. ARGENTINA, BRAZIL, ITALY
(Group C, second phase, 1982 World Cup)
Who made it out alive?
Argentina's underwhelming showing in the Sudamericano Sub 20 continued on Monday evening as they
lost 2-0 in the final group stage to bitter rivals Brazil. In torrential rain, Argentina actually
turned in their best performance of the tournament so far - but lost for the first time. Unlucky,
boys... Argentina started the better side, dealing more [.
Saturday night saw the big South American clásico in Rosario as Argentina hosted Brazil in the
qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup, and Diego Maradona's reign as manager will be marked forever by
the result: Argentina lost a qualifier at home for only the second time in their history. The first
was the 0-5 loss [.
Arsenal's Emirates Stadium might still be shiny, but it lacks history and has
been criticised for its soulless feel, a fact recognised by Arsene Wenger. "Highbury had a natural
soul, because of the history," said Wenger "We have to create history here at the Emirates.
Good piece by Henry Winter in todays Telegraph, about how dangerous a First Round Draw England
could get despite the fact that we will almost certainly be seeded (won't be officially announced
untill all the teams are through and FIFA has worked out the best way to get the big teams through
the fairest way for everyone to play against each other.
A full slate of World Cup qualifying matches will kick off around the world on Saturday and no
match will have more international interest than Brazil vs. Argentina.
Argentina finds itself in the improbable position of fourth place in the South American World
Cup qualifying, just a spot away from missing out on automatically qualifying for the 2010 World
Cup.
Every fan of the US team has been hoping that the stars could align, the flipped coin could land
on its edge and that somehow the US could be seeded in the World Cup draw. Being among those top
eight seeds would make a huge difference and the path to the final 16 would be much easier.
"I'm getting the words 'Group of Death'..."
It's time for you to look into your Sepp Blatter-shaped crystal ball and predict which group
England will land in tomorrow's World Cup draw in Cape Town. Exciting stuff, eh.
These are the four pots:
POT 1 (Seeds):
Argentina, Brazil, ENGLAND, Germany, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Holland
POT 2 (Asia, Oceania and North/Central America):
Australia, New Zealand, Honduras, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Mexico, United
States.
Some good news has already come Argentina's way prior to Saturday night's clásico against Brazil
in the Gigante del Arroyito in Rosario. Both Ecuador (0-2 away to Colombia) and Uruguay (0-1 away
to bottom placed Peru) lost, meaning Argentina are guaranteed to still be in the top four even if
they suffer their second ever [.
Saturday is going to be a soccer fan's dream. Over 70 World Cup matches to be played all over the
planet and some very interesting scenarios that could play themselves out.
In the evening, there will be confrontations that will tantalize the palette of any soccer fan in
this region of the world.
All of a sudden, after the week that's just passed, 'Diego Maradona's Argentina' sounds less like a
porteño schoolboy's fantasy and more like a sneering insult from Brazilians and Paraguayans
towards their neighbours. If you've not had quite enough of reading (and, through The Enganche
Argentine football podcast) about it yet, though, you can click here [.
Despite the terrible WC qualifying campaign and despite everything else that's gone
wrong, Argentina will be a top seed in the World Cup.

Argentina among top seeds in World Cup 2010
Finally, Argentina is one of the seeded teams in the upcoming 2010 World Cup, FIFA said
today.
On a day when Palos Verdes Estates' Kyle Nakazawa of UCLA was named a semifinalist for the
Hermann Trophy Award and UCLA's Sydney Leroux and Lauren Cheney, USC goalkeeper Kristin Olsen,
Palos Verdes Estates' Christen Press of Stanford and Rolling Hills Estates' Whitney Engen of North
Carolina were all named semifinalists for the corresponding women's award,it's the pending World
Cup draw Friday that has center stage.
- Bolt visited the Bernabeu and met all his amigos, including Benzema, Greaseano, Kaka
and even Potter Perez. He got a super cool shirt with the number "958″ at the back.
Check out his autograph style- "Fr : Kaka". Hmmm, we can't spot Ricky's signature on the
shirt.

With anticipation building for Friday's World Cup Draw Final Draw, fans of the United States Men's
National Team have been handed some bad news in regards to what kind of group the Americans are
likely to be drawn into.
FIFA announced the four pots on Tuesday. They are as follows:
Pot 1 - South Africa (hosts), Argentina, Brazil, England, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands,
Spain
Pot 2 - Australia, Honduras, Japan, Korea DPR, Korea Republic, Mexico, New Zealand, United
States
Pot 3 - Algeria, Cameroon, Chile, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Paraguay, Uruguay
Pot 4 - Denmark, France, Greece, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland
Being paired with the other teams in CONCACAF was no surprise, but by also sharing Pot 2 with the
teams from the weaker Asia/Oceania region, this ensures that the U.
After falling out with River Plate over the appalling pitch surface for the recent World Cup
qualifier at home to Colombia, the AFA have submitted a request to FIFA that Rosario Central's
stadium, El Gigante Del Arroyito, be accredited as an alternative venue. It's possible the
qualifier against Brazil could be played there if the [.
CONMEBOL is the South American Football Confederation (officially known as the Confederación
Sudamericana de Fútbol) which covers the majority of the continent of South America. It is the
oldest of FIFA's confederations, originally forming in 1916, almost a century ago. The federation's
formation was begun by Héctor Rivadavia Gómez who had a grand plan for a federation for South
American football.
Only a quick news update here: there have been a few late call-ups by Diego Maradona for the
Argentine national team as they prepare for their World Cup qualifiers at home to Brazil (in
Rosario, on Saturday) and away to Paraguay (in Asunción next week). This was expected because
Maradona left the door open for [.
Argentina travel to Asunción to take on Paraguay later tonight, with the team unlikely to be
announced until very shortly before kick off. Whether Diego Maradona has any idea what it's going
to be himself is anyone's guess. There are some educated guesses to be made, though. There's also
some discussion to be had of [.
Liverpool slump to their third defeat. Losses to Chelsea, Aston Villa and Tottenham mean that
Liverpool have already lost more games than the whole of last season. But it's still early in the
season, isn't it? Plenty of time to turn things around! This campaign will be different. there are
new challengers, Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Spurs are in the top half too!
Here are the groupings for Friday's World Cup draw. Seeding for the top 8 were strictly set on the
top teams from the October 2009 FIFA World Rankings. Only the top 7 will be included, as the host
South Africa gets the 8th top seed. One team will then be drawn from each pot to make up the 8
groups of 4 teams each.
Big Story
I'm pretty sure Sepp Blatter and FIFA's executive committee is trying to drive me
insane, if not kill me. I'm not sure why they'd have a vendetta against a little-known British-born
blogger exiled to the United States, but there can be little other reasonable explanation for them
forcing me to write the same commentary over and over again on their practices: stop forcing me to
presume you are fixing everything!
Barca is to meet Atletico Madrid this Sunday without Leo Messi recuperating from an adductor
strain. Pep Guardiola does not want to take a chance and aggravate his injury. He is likely to rest
Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic also recovering from injuries.
Messi is also requesting Pep Guardiola time off to prepare for the colossal Argentina Brazil
World Cup qualifier that takes place September 5th which means he will miss the Liga opener against
Sporting Gijon.
Will Argentina qualify for 2010 world cup? This seems to be the question in everyones mind
nowadays. If you have asked me this before the Argentina- Brazil match, I would have definitely
said a Yes; but now even I am doubtful. Argentina has been my favourite natioonal team for years.
Mr.
South American Zone of the World Cup qualifiers have never been very
interesting as Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay would always qualify for the final tournament, while
two or three other side used to fought for one remaining place. This is so not the case this term
as no less than six teams are fighting for two plus one qualifying berths with
just two rounds to go.
We are just days, alot of them to be fair, from another glorious World Cup. So what better time
than now to give you a run down of the Top Ten World Cup Teams Ever, with Video evidence to back up
our claims and to entertain you the viewer. Enjoy

As I'm sure you've heard by now, England are to be one of eight seeded teams to compete in the
World Cup Finals next summer in South Africa. Italy, Holland, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Spain and
South Africa round out the other seeded nations. France miss out on a seed due to FIFA's decision
to not take into consideration performances in past Finals.
In a matter of hours, the 2010 World Cup field will be officially set. The draw is set to be made
at 17:00 GMT time and 19:00 South Africa time. At a FIFA executive meeting in Cape Town, South
Africa, FIFA decided eight seeds: hosts South Africa, title holders Italy, Argentina, Brazil,
England, Germany, the Netherlands and [.
CAPE TOWN -- The World Cup draw has yet to take place but the U.S. was already dealt a cruel
hand before learning its fate on Friday. Tuesday's pot announcement saw the U.S. and the rest of
CONCACAF grouped with the Asia and Oceania qualifiers. Full list below:
Pot 1: South Africa (hosts), Argentina, Brazil, England, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands,
Spain
Pot 2: Australia, Honduras, Japan, Korea DPR, Korea Republic, Mexico, New Zealand, United
States
Pot 3: Algeria, Cameroon, Chile, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Paraguay, Uruguay
Pot 4: Denmark, France, Greece, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland
While the news is certainly unfortunate, there's no reason to believe FIFA would do anything to
favor the Americans.
Happy holidays from Soccer Source! In the spirit of things, we thought it would be a good idea to
identify 10 questions facing world soccer in 2010 and rank them according to (our perceived order
of) importance. Note that while we might claim these are "world" soccer issues, true imperialists
that we are the list is almost entirely U.
After much intense speculation we now know which teams are in which pots for tomorrow's World Cup
finals draw. As suggested here on November 24th the French have paid for Thierry Henry's juggling
act in the play off against Ireland with demotion to a non-seed pot. While FIFA obviously won't
admit it, the French are being punished.
