After rumors that the FIFA World Ranking wouldn't be heavily weighted for the 2010 World Cup Draw,
FIFA's Organizing Committee ended up using the October ranking to determine the seeded teams. With
South Africa already holding a seed as the host, the top seven teams in the October '09 ranking
took the remaining slots.
TEN POT OBSERVATIONS.
1. FIFA got the seedings right. Pot 1 seeds earned their ranking. France did not.
France's final appearance was four years ago.
2. Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay have come out of
the pot alignment better than most.

Obviously the group involving Mexico and the United States look to be the toughest.

Liverpool have refused to release Javier Mascherano for Argentina's friendly against Catalunya
later this month.
The midfielder, who is skipper of his country, was named by Diego Maradona in the squad for the

France's odds of winning the World Cup have been cut from 16/1 to 12/1 after landing a stomach

It probably doesn't get much better than this.

Argentina and FC Barcelona winger Lionel Messi has been named as FIFA World Player of the Year
2009. The 22-year-old was selected via voting among national team captains and coaches over 2008
winner Cristiano Ronaldo, 2007 winner Kaka, and FC Barcelona teammates Xavi Hernandez and Andres
Iniesta. Messi won a Spanish La Liga title, Copa del Rey [.
