With the news that Jose Mourinho has signed a new deal with Real Madrid, fans in England of the
"Special One" will have to wait a little longer before seeing the return of the master tactician to
the Premier League.
With the job up for grabs with his former club Chelsea and the vacancy at Anfield with Liverpool,
there were suggestions the Portuguese coach could be set for an imminent return to the Premier
League, where he claimed two titles with the Blues.
No sooner have Brazil's vast array of localized state championships reached their conclusion
does the time come for the national championship to commence. The "Brasileiro" is now in its 41st
year and the quality of the competition has increased in recent years thanks to the adoption of a
standard round robin league format, as used in many of Europe's top leagues, which has brought
about many a dramatic finish since it was introduced in 2003.
On Friday Brazil announced its squad for its games against Denmark and United States in May and
Mexico and arch-rivals Argentina in June.
While Pato made coach Mano Menezes's 23-man squad, which is made up largely of under-23 players
as Brazil look to try and win the Olympic gold medal for the first time, missing was former World
footballer of the year Ronaldinho.
Liverpool are reportedly considering making a move for out of favour Man United striker Dimitar
Berbatov. Kenny Dalglish is looking to beef up his Anfield attacking options but still has faith in
Andy Carroll to deliver the goods in the long term and is therefore looking for an experienced
back-up options with a proven Premier League record and sees a move for the Bulgarian international
as a viable option.
United travel to Sunderland for the final game of the season and are a top priced 1.44 to beat
the Black Cats and keep alive their slim hopes of retaining the title.
The Red Devils need City to slip up in their home game at QPR, and will be hoping that history
doesn't repeat itself.
United go into their final home game of the season against Swansea knowing only a win is good
enough in order to keep their title hopes alive, and they are a top priced 1.2 with Boylesports to
do just that.
Having been 8 points clear and looking to have the title in the bag they now sit in second place
on goal difference behind arch rivals City.
The season is nearly over and as we go into our penultimate game of the season the
Champions League qualification spot is still up for grabs as is 3rd place! THFC1882 is pleased have
Mike Hooley back to preview the game.
Following a very encouraging 4-1 victory on Wednesday night away at Bolton, which itself came
hot on the heels of a home win against Wanderers' fellow Lancashire relegation candidates
Blackburn, Spurs face a third team threatened with relegation on Sunday afternoon.
Wasn't this the golden age of
FC Barcelona?
Barely a week ago the
blaugrana were going for a clean sweep of trophies as their legend as
the greatest football team of all time continued to be told.
Now Barça are out of the Champions League and have handed their Spanish title to
Real
Madrid with a loss to their arch-rivals at the Camp Nou.

Manchester United may miss out on the title this year, but there are many things to look
forward to next season.
United's 1-0 loss to City puts them in a tie with their arch-rivals at the top of the table, but
City's goal difference is eight points better than United's.
Sir Alex summed up the importance of United game against City at the Etihad when he called it
"a derby of amazing proportions... probably the most important in my time".
The Red Devils go into the game three points clear of their arch rivals having thrown them a
lifeline after blowing a 4-2 lead against Everton through some uncharacteristically shoddy
defending.

A week ago, I spoke of the significance of Manchester United's draw with Everton and how much
the title race had been affected. The impact has been huge; this has been made clear throughout the
footballing world for the last 7 days.

Racing Santander became the first team in the Spanish Primera Division to be relegated after a
3-0 defeat to Real Sociedad on Saturday. Racing went into the game knowing that a win no matter how
how vital, would not keep them from escaping the relegation axe.
After 34 matches, Racing were at the bottom of the league standings having only garnered 26
points.
Pep Guardiola's four years at the helm of one of the greatest side in this sport's history wore
him down. That was the message garnered from his press conference. The most arresting part was a
sort of enigmatic half plea, "I need to find myself again."
This is not a soulless man.
The gloves came off at Villa Park last night. Leading by a goal and having dominated the match
at half-time against Bolton Wanderers, Alex McLeish's team threw their lead away and now sit just
three points above the relegation places with three matches of the Premier League season left to
play. And with this defeat, the sullen cloud of dissatisfaction that has sat over Villa Park this
season lifted, but what replaced it was a thunderstorm of noise and abuse.
The Scottish Football Association (SFA) yesterday banned Rangers owner and director Craig Whyte
for life for misconduct on his part arising from unclear dealings since he took over the club last
May after buying it from Sir David Murray for £1.
A tough talking Whyte who was hit with a £160,000 fine and 12 month transfer embargo however
scoffed at the SFA's decision saying that it would not affect him one bit.
Eastern Conference rivals D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls face off tonight at RFK Stadium,
with second place in the East on the line in this battle of arch-rivals.
The Red Bulls come in unbeaten in four matches, and boast MLS goal-scoring leaders Thierry Henry
and Kenny Cooper.
It was a long time coming, however, Real Madrid's 2-1 win over arch rivals Barcelona last night
was the clearest indication of their desire to win their first league title in 4 years. In fact,
the last time Madrid beat Barcelona in the famed El Clasico was when Frank Rijkaard was still Barca
coach.

win over Real Zaragoza. The Argentine has so far netted 60 goals this season and is within touching
distance of Gerd Muller's European record of 67 goals in one season.
Muller set the record while playing for Bayern back in the 1972-73 campaign a feat that is yet
to be matched to this day.

Bayern Munich v Chelsea Preview: The Complete 2012 Champions League Final Guide - originally
posted on Soccerlens.com
The 2011/2012 Champions League Final, to be played between Chelsea and Bayern Munich at the
Allianz Arena in Munich on Saturday, 19th May 2012, is going to be a classic.
Both finalists were unfancied going into their respective semi-finals and they overcame unlikely
odds to beat Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Following their progress into the last 4 of the Champions League, a lot of criticism is emerging
towards Chelsea's chances of making it all the way to the final. After their 8-2 aggregate win over
APEOEL, Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has already ruled out chances of his side meeting Chelsea in the
final saying that his arch rivals Barcelona were the 'super favourites' to win the fixture.
Kenny Dalglish could be dethroned when Liverpool take on arch rivals Everton in their FA Cup
semi-final on 14 April.
It was only a few months ago that his followers were chanting "Long live the King", but it is
league championships and Champions League football the Kop crave, not the Carling Cup and Europa
League qualification.
Between them they have scored an amazing 74 goals. Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo
Higuain have established themselves as La Liga's ultimate strike trio after they led their side to
another impressive display against Osasuna last night.
Both Higuain and Ronaldo scored twice to ensure a comfortable 5- win for Los Blancos who prepare
to face APOEL in a return leg Champions League quarter final fixture on Wednesday.
wood Park hasn't been a happy hunting ground for United in recent years as far as victories go,
but bookmakers make them 1.4 shots to beat Blackburn and in their current form it would take a
brave man to back against them not securing all three points.
Rovers recorded a shock 3-2 win against United at Old Trafford on New Year's Eve, but currently
sit just three points clear of the relegation zone following their loss to Bolton Wanderers last
week.
Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player since Madrid icon Ferenc Puskas to score the fastest
century of goals in the Primera Division. The Portuguese's brace inspired Madrid to a 5-1 win over
Real Soceidad at the Bernabeu and helped keep them 6 points ahead of arch rivals Barcelona. This
brings both Ronaldo and Messi level on 35 league goals with only a handful of matches remaining in
the season.

"In my time as manager, it is the best team we have faced," said Sir Alex Ferguson after
Manchester United were comprehensively dismantled by Barcelona in last year's Champions League
final. Three-time European Cup winner Graeme Souness went further, saying: "I think they are the
best team ever and, in Lionel Messi, they have the best player ever.
FC Barcelona will meet AC MIlan in the 2011-12 Champions League Quarter Final. The first leg of
the tie will be held on the 28th of March at San Siro and the return leg will be held at Camp Nou

In the wake of last month's death of 74 soccer fans in a lethal brawl in Port Said, militant
support groups of crowned Cairo arch rivals Al Ahly SC and Al Zamalek SC warned Egypt's rulers that
they would sacrifice their lives to ensure that the instigators of the worst incident in Egyptian
sporting history are brought to justice, says writer James Dorsey.
The battle for first place in the English Premier League continues to rage on as arch-rivals
Manchester City and Manchester United continue to pull away from the pack as they keep pressuring
each other.
Manchester City holds the lead at the moment, but face a tricky test on the road against Swansea
City.
The use of a 'Cup final' as a cliche in soccer make sense.
A 'Cup final' is a match that is a championship game in a tournament - one where there can only be
a winner and a loser, and one where the loser is eliminated. The NBA on TNT uses this phrase for
their commercials during their tournament-style playoffs: WIN OR GO HOME.
A pretty astonishing achievement was had for Egyptian captain Ahmed Hassan today, earning his
179th cap, which requires an advanced degree simply to count that high. The list is impressive
stuff, if only because the top 5 includes not one but two named 'Hassan' from Egypt.
He's also not done, which leaves the possibility of a 200th cap in sight.
Arsenal's captain Robin Van Persie couldn't help but make fun of arch rivals Tottenham in an
interview he gave recently just after the incredible win the Gunners managed against Tottenham.
"What's funny is that people are discussing the best Tottenham team ever and the worst Arsenal
team. And we just beat Tottenham.
More than bragging rights in North London will be on the line at the Emirates today when Arsenal
takes on Tottenham. For the Gunners, holding on to their precious top four place in the English
Premier League standings will be at stake, while Tottenham will be trying to solidify their hold
on third place.
