Discredited Fifa president Sepp Blatter has issued an apology to the Football
Association of Ireland after he was accused of breaking assurances of private discussions regarding
the ongoing World Cup saga.
The row erupted in the continuing fall-out from Ireland's elimination by France after Thierry
Henry's now infamous handball.
There are winners and there are losers in football and it's time to weed out those who suffered
in 2009. But losing is not a simple concept. Some are major contributors to their own downfall and
deserve the brick bats that come their way, while others are victims of circumstances and probably
deserve better.
It was an up and down game for Cristiano Ronaldo against Almeria on Saturday. He set up a goal,
scored one of his own, and earned a penalty kick, but things also went ugly for him. First he
missed the penalty, allowing Karim Benzema to score off the rebound. Pouting Ronaldo did not
celebrate his teammate's clean-up job on his mistake, however, which led to Higuain giving him a
talking to.
