Torneo Clausura 2009

Hasta El Gol Siempre 05 February @ 10:09 PM EST
At long last, after a summer of transfer bore-stories and ridiculous friendly matches which are only 70 or 80 minutes long, real league football returns to the Argentine Republic on Friday night. Following the most closely-fought championship in short tournament history, the defending champions are a familiar name, but that's no reason to assume it'll [. Click to continue reading...

Leaving it late

Hasta El Gol Siempre 25 October @ 10:14 PM EST
There were ten goals from four matches on Saturday, and they didn't stop coming until the very end of the final game. Both Independiente and Argentinos went into the match at El Cilindro in good form, and a draw seemed an inevitable result, but it only eventually arrived when the visitors equalised in the second [. No smoking dude

The Beautiful Game (2) 07 September @ 06:54 PM EST
Argentina has a team named Colon -- stop laughing -- which has a coach named Antonio Mohamed.
He's paid about $750 in fines for smoking on the bench, but he doesn't care.
The monetary damages are worth lighting up. So the reigning body had to do something dire.
But Argentina's Football Association said Friday it won't just fine Mohamed, but will suspend him for several games the next time he smokes a cigarette on the field.

Denis to Napoli, and an angry Turk

Hasta El Gol Siempre 10 June @ 06:24 AM EST
Independiente aren't yet out of the hunt for a Copa Sudamericana place, but if they qualify for continental competition they'll be playing in it next season without their top scorer Germán Denis, whose transfer to Napoli is looking more and more like a done deal. Colón manager Antonio 'El Turco' Mohamed, meanwhile, is refusing to apologise [. Click to continue reading...

A slim advantage

Hasta El Gol Siempre 01 June @ 05:35 PM EST
With two matches remaining of the 2008 Torneo Clausura, River Plate edged narrowly ahead of Estudiantes in the table, and with the opening of a two-point gap at the top of the table they can keep alive their dream of claiming a first trophy in four years, in Diego Simeone's first campaign in charge. Two 3-1 wins

Hasta El Gol Siempre 12 April @ 09:28 PM EST
Saturday's matches saw two 3-1 wins, one for Independiente and then one for San Lorenzo, to keep both sides just a point apart in their battle to hang onto the coat-tails of the leading pack. Clausura ‘08: Round 9 scores and scorers

Hasta El Gol Siempre 07 April @ 05:37 AM EST
Boca Juniors and Estudiantes were both held to draws on Saturday, allowing River Plate to stretch their lead at the top if they could beat champions Lanús away on Sunday - which they managed courtesy of a brilliant strike from teenage forward Diego Buonanotte, and a penalty save from Juan Pablo Carrizo. The old guard

Hasta El Gol Siempre 23 March @ 07:57 PM EST
River Plate went temporarily top earlier on Sunday evening, and Boca Juniors leapfrogged them on goal difference a couple of hours later by beating Colón de Santa Fé 2-1 in La Bombonera. The league table tonight is topped by the two giants for the first time in a surprisingly long while, although when the AFA [. Click to continue reading...

As you were… and a change at the top

Hasta El Gol Siempre 19 March @ 05:57 PM EST
On Wednesday evening, River Plate and San Martín de San Juan played the final 13 minutes of their fourth round Torneo Clausura match, which was called off due to torrential rain first time round. There was very little to say about such a short match. Elsewhere, ex-Huracán manager Antonio 'Turco' Mohamed has taken over at [. Click to continue reading...

Huracan

El Blog del Rinoceronte 06 September @ 03:47 AM EST
Another Argentinean club saw its coach resign this week. Antonio Mohamed left the post of Huracan's coach due to misunderstanding with the clubs's president, famous Carlos Babington. Babington wants to offer the post now to ex-jugador of Velez Sarsfield Fabian Carrizo, while 400 hinchas of El Globo surrounded the Huracan's office demanding to get Mohamed back.
