Antonio Cassano returned to Milan's starting XI after suffering a stroke and undergoing heart
surgery in November and uncertainty as to whether he would ever play again. And not only did
Cassano score the first goal in Milan's 4-0 win over Siena and set up two others, but he also gave
Zlatan Ibrahimovic a friendly kick in the backside.
It was not supposed to happen this way. After years as a wayward, controversial and underachieving
player, this was the season when Antonio Cassano's career finally started to show all of its
glorious potential. And it did, at least until November. The Italian champions start to the current
campaign was nothing short of atrocious.

It has been a topsy-turvy week for Milan ahead of Sunday's clash with our dislikeable cousins
Inter. The headlines have been dominated by the transfer fiasco involving Carlos Tevez and
Alexandre Pato which has left doubts regarding the harmony, or lack of, at the Via Turati. Milan's
obsessive chase for Tevez the football mercenary escalated [.
On the 13th of January, AC Milan posted this statement on their website:
AC Milan announces that during this week Antonio Cassano had a neurological check-up with the
team of Professor Nereo Bresolin and Dr. Yvan Torrente and a cardiology visit with Professor Mario
Carminati. Both check-ups gave positive results, so [read more]
Interazionale sprung a big surprise on Sunday night to claim their biggest win of the season with a
1-0 victory in the Milan derby. Both teams entered the fixture in fine form (Milan were unbeaten in
12, Inter had won five in-a-row), but it was the Nerazzurri who prevailed after one of the season's
great stifling performances.
The current table shows Inter in 5th place yet the Nerazzurri have a greater chance of competing
for the league title than Udinese or Lazio who are currently above them in the standings. Inter's
players have the necessary experience and the quality players to challenge for titles while both
Udinese and Lazio are lacking in terms of experience and the killer instinct needed to win
difficult matches.
It has been an odd week for Milan. From the low that last Sunday's derby loss sank us to, the
club's fortunes rose steadily from one day to the next ending in triumphant fashion with a
convincing 3-0 win over Novara. The loss to the ‘Tinkerman's' Nerazzurri posed serious questions
over Max Allegri's men, from [.
On October 11 last year in the provincial city of Pescara, Italy ended their qualifying campaign
with a 3-0 win over Northern Ireland. It was the perfect ending as Italy finished top of their
group. It was also just reward for coach Cesare Prandelli who managed to rebuild a strong Azzurri
from the wreckage of the 2010 World Cup disaster.
Milan transfer guru Adriano Galliani definitely knows how to work a bargain. Since 1986, when he
started his long and prosperous career at the Via Turati, the man known as Uncle Fester has been
the man behind the scenes. The one who has engineered deals that have seen so many of the world's
best players [.
The rumour mill may continue incessantly as it always does, but, for the time being no players will
be swapping kits. Instead, now is the time for coaches to start preparing their troops, both new
and old, for the business part of the season. It is already February and that mad month of May is

Diego Milito's quadruple known as a 'poker' against Palermo was a rare moment, in fact it was only
the sixth time it's happened in ten years, but with Italy's final friendly before Euro 2012 looming
it focused the eyes on the Azzurri's frontline. The Argentinian's four-step sent him into a comic
book group that features ‘the little plane', Vincenzo Montella, twinkle-toes Christian.
AC Milan will be looking to put behind them their disastrous weekend outing when they host
Juventus at the San Siro tonight in the Coppa Italia first leg semi-final. With Juventus also
having settled for a similar barren draw with Siena in the weekend, the match will definitely be an
explosive one.
As the old cliché goes, history repeats itself. And this could not be truer come every February
for Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Whether at Barcelona or in the blue or red half of Milan, the
‘big' Swede's scoring record often leaves something to be desired at this time of the year.
Goals, to be precise.
As Guiseppe Rossi and Antonio Cassano's respective ailments take their toll on the Azzurri
selection process, the more cynical fans among us will be already preparing the finger pointing
when Italy lack the firepower needed to overcome the likes of Spain and the Republic of Ireland,
citing the duo's absence [read more]

The U.S. men's national team's friendly against Italy is a little more than two weeks away, and
it is the first chance that manager Jurgen Klinsmann has to have his "A" team assembled together in
the new year.
With only a few friendlies remaining before World Cup qualifying begins in June, Klinsmann will
look to the Feb.
Health scares, multi-million pound on-off deals and the toppling of a prime minister. It has the
makings of a political thriller that any dramatist would be proud off. Instead, it has been the
script of Massimiliano Allegri's awkward second season in charge of Milan. It is easy to forget
just how rocky the waters have been in the background to his attempts to build on the foundations
of a debut.
It could not have been any better. It could not have been any sweeter. Four unanswered goals from
Milan against Arsenal ensured the Italians have at least one foot in the quarter finals. For coach
Max Allegri, it was his most significant moment in the Champions League of his short managerial
career. But, Allegri was not the star of the night.
The pressure is on Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas in the UEFA Champions League, not only for
him to try and salvage his own job security, but also to keep England's hopes at crowning a
European winner alive.
It appears that he'll be a bit shorthanded in the first stage of his quest to get the Blues to
the UCL quarterfinals, though.
Juergen Klinsmann has arrived. He was on a winning steak before the Italy match but the caveat
was that it was not against quality opposition. This was to Italy, four times World Cup champions,
a team that the USA had not won against in 11 outings, on the road, with a rejiggered team missing
four of their starters through injuries and illness.
COUNTDOWN TO MLS 2012 - SEASON 17STARTERSYesterday was big for US Soccer even if it doesn't really count - USA wins in Italy and USA Olympic
team stuffs Mexico U23s. Missions accomplished.
-And like any good USA fan the cherry on top was Mexico losing to Colombia too!

FIFA president Sepp Blatter may not be delivering on some of his promises, but a cleaner FIFA
could be in store in the near future.
A FIFA anti-corruption adviser said the process to clean FIFA up is on track despite Blatter
announcing last week that a limited number of reforms were approved by his executive committee.
5 reasons why football needs Antonio Cassano is a post from: Just Football
Football has had some difficult and distressing issues to deal with recently, from Villa Park to
Somalia to White Hart Lane, but there was at least some encouraging news this week after it emerged
that AC Milan striker and everyone's favourite croissant eater Antonio
Cassano has been given the all-clear to resume playing football.

For anyone not familiar with the company called Panini, they don't make sandwiches, they make
football trading cards and stickers. Recently, they've released their 20 player Euro 2012 set,
effectively "calling up" 20 Italian players, even if Prandelli will actually call up 23. Glaring
omissions included Antonio Cassano and Giuseppe Rossi, since it was a race against time for them to
achieve match fitness.
There was some idiotic scenes in the Genoa, as the home side -losing to Siena at the time -were
demanded to take of their jerseys by their own ultras. The reasoning; according to this small
minority of fans the players were not fit enough to wear the club's colours. Marco Rossi, Genoa's
captain, ceded to their demands and went about collecting jerseys from his team-mates.
Saturday 28th April Roma v Napoli The game of the weekend is between two teams of contrasting
fortunes. Roma have lost their last two games, a heavy 4-0 loss to Juventus in Turin and a 2-1 home
reverse to Fiorentina. Napoli on the other hand, have beaten strugglers Lecce and Novara to move up
to fourth.

Juventus remain on course to win their first Scudetto in 9 years after they beat Novara 4-0
yesterday to remain 3 points clear of their nearest challengers AC Milan with 3 matches left to
play.
A brace from in form striker Mirko Vucinic and strikes from Marco Boriello and Arturo Vidal were
enough to see off a weak Novara side that failed to provide any real threat.
"The real regret for this year, as I said it to [Silvio] Berlusconi on the phone, is about Gattuso
and Cassano....with the two of them we would have gained some more points," were the words of
Adriano Galliani today 24 hours after Milan's four-goal rout of Siena. While it is not so easy to

Juventus will finish on top of the league table regardless of the result of Week 38. The
Bianconeri defeated Cagliari 2-0 while Milan lost 2-4 to Inter to confirm Juve as this season's
champions. Below is a list of the most important factors behind Juve's triumph:
a) Andrea Pirlo: The Italy midfielder has been perhaps Juve's most influential
player this season.
Milan's quest to repeat as champions of Serie A fell short due to a number of reasons, in
particular the injuries which affected the squad and the demands of European football which drained
the players.
The Rossoneri must address the following key concerns in order to be successful next season in
Italy and Europe:
a) Ibrahimovic Factor: Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been in fine form since his move from Barcelona
prior to the beginning of last season.
Lista definitiva de ItaliaPorteros: Marco Amelia (Livorno), Gianluigi Buffon
(Juventus), Morgan De Sanctis (Sevilla).
Defensas: Andrea Barzagli (Palermo), Fabio Cannavaro (Real Madrid), Giorgio
Chiellini (Juventus), Fabio Grosso (Olympique Lyonnais), Marco Materazzi (Inter de Milán),
Christian Panucci (AS Roma), Gianluca Zambrotta (FC Barcelona).
As I mentioned before, I am not entirely convinced at the Azzurri's chances of success at Euro
2012. The squad has not enthused me during their qualifying campaign and although they retrieved
Antonio Cassano from injury, the absence of Giuseppe Rossi coupled with the unpredictability of
Mario Balotelli and still relative inexperience of Sebastian Giovinco makes me doubt the
goalscoring efficiency of Italy's strikeforce.
