Chelsea defender Paulo Ferreira is heading across London to West Ham United to complete the

first team place in the Chelsea first team since the arrival of fellow countryman Jose Bosingwa at
Stamford Bridge this summer.

This blog has in the past been critical of Curbishley's reign at Upton Park and it would be fair
for me to comment on the latest event in East London.
The reason for the firing appears to me to relate solely to the West Ham United transfer policy.
This summer, the club cut Freddie Ljubgberg and sold Anton Ferdinand, while nobody of significance
was brought into the club from outside.
1. Finally...
A lot of us thought this day would never come. For months now we have all battled against lowered
expectations, increasing frustration and even a progressively diminished appetite for one of those
things we hold most dear.
But then came the news we've all been waiting for.
Seems the close of the player transfer window was also the opening of the manager door. First Kevin
Keegan (maybe) parted ways with Newcastle yesterday, and now Alan Curbishley has resigned at West
Ham Utd. Curbs has been under pressure from West Ham for the team's perceived poor performance last
season (even though they finished [.
IT'S arguably come as no shock that Alan Curbishley has quit West Ham. The crows over the
50-year-old have been circling for some time and the sale of Anton Ferdinand and George McCartney
to Sunderland seems to have been the last straw. But one thing his departure has certainly drawn to
the attention is the black [.

return to Stadium.
...but Curbishley is. Curbishley quits as West Ham boss Alan Curbishley has resigned as manager of
West Ham because of a lack of control over transfer policy. Curbishley tendered his resignation on
Wednesday and it was accepted by owner Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson. The final straw for the 50-year-old
had been the enforced sales of Anton Ferdinand and George [.
The first managerial departure of the season came today as Alan Curbishley resigned his post as
West Ham manager. Curbishley had been at or near the top of the list of managers speculated to go,
along with Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan, so this bit of news shouldn't come as a surprise to
anyone.
However, the reason for it is very interesting.
When Gianfranco Zola took over at West Ham I wonder if he was aware that the very next day the
club's main sponsors, XL, would go bust, and a week later they would be ordered to pay £30 million
compensation to Sheffield United? Zola has been assured that money will be made available, if
required, in the January transfer window, but I wonder if he is really reassured?
