The latest news from this week...Due to the amount of material covered, I didn't post links to
the original sources like I normally do, but if you want them, let me know.
OUTGOING:
FRED: Is it just me, or does Fred spend an inordinate amount of time making
life difficult for the rest of us?
Last week, Lyon Foot published a hot collection of Lyon players with tattoos. It's a
different sort of look at OL players, whose reputations normally come across as nice family guys.
Which they still are, but sometimes we like to pretend they can be badass.
For me, the biggest surprise was Anthony Mounier.
This morning, Lyon finally clinched the signature of Miralem Pjanic, who is the
hottest talent in France not born in 1987. Lyon have been negotiating with Metz for weeks, but to
so many clubs interested, many with late bids, the deal took quite a long time in being
crafted.
Nothing major to report on the transfer front. Most of the info from Inara's last transfer post
is still up to date. Here's the latest:
OUT:
Gregory Coupet: Greg's transfer to Atletico Madrid has been
finalized.
Lyon's full-back crisis gets worse. WORSE! Is that even possible? From the OL website:
This afternoon's MRI confirmed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament on Anthony
Reveillere's left knee. Consequently, his season for Lyon is over.
Reveillere can now hang out in Lyon's very own hospital ward with Mathieu
Bodmer, Cesar Delgado, Francois Clerc, Fabio
Santos, and Miralem Pjanic.
These 3-0 losses are starting to turn into a yearly ritual. A humiliating one.
The game was so bad that Lyon's official website posted a highlight video that was only three
minutes long - usually they are around twenty minutes. Watching it, I realized why. Apart from
Mickael Pagis's three goals, not much else happened.
The latest transfer news involving players. I'll have a post up later on Perrin and possible
managers tomorrow.
Outgoing:
It's always the same old story with Sidney Govou. He starts talking about
leaving, but he always ends up staying. This year is no different.
Francois Clerc's "slight knock" to the knee ended up being more
serious than everyone first thought. He's torn the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee,
which means he'll be out for about five to six months.
Poor Clerc. Just when his career at Lyon and for Les Bleus was starting to take
off.
I know I normally do a post match write up after CL matches, but I'm running short of time and
won't be able to do the usual photo and video fest. Plus most of what needed to be said has already
been posted in the comments of this thread. So here are some additional thoughts:
1. Lyon are taking the concept of "the best defense is a good offense" a little too
far.
