Running commentary and random thoughts on the United States' World Cup 2010 Group C match v.
Slovenia:
- Ian, FTW; John Harkes, FML
- Refs are from Mali. U.S. in blue again.
- Anthems. No XTina?
- Hmm, lots of Americans at the game? I hear lots of singing
- Dempsey survives without a yellow for that elbow
- Bradley in better form already
- Donovan needs to do better with the corner
- Disaster
- OK, where's the MF support and why the hell is Gooch hitting the deck on that one?
Footballs coming home, its coming home.....
We've had emails about World Cup songs and anthems, so we thought we would collate just some of
them here. If you know of anymore or would like yours to be included, comment on the post

Around this time of the year, every year, fans of both football and gaming receive a treat when
the latest batch of football games are released. And so it was on October 1st, with the release of
FIFA 11, the latest instalment in the FIFA series.

Since my initial post about ESPN all-Euro World Cup announcer lineup, one of the arguments I've
heard over-and-over again is that American commentators "talk too much" and that British
commentators don't.
Dr Mart and ChelTel return to the flock this week and join Chidge, Chris, Stu and Ross and loads of
guests on the benches, to discuss the third 7 goal demolition of the season to put a smile on
everyone's face!
A brilliant display by the Chels gives us confidence going in to the last two vital matches in our
challenge for the title.
From the Village People (featuring Der Mannschaft) to Del Amitri, here are half a dozen of the
worst anthems of all time.

culture around the coming World Cup; anyone interested in that more than my own thoughts on
context—or anyone with suggestions of your own—should feel free to skip ahead)

This is a good tune and has been out for a while, but still may be a contender for best World
Cup song.

The favorites of Group B, South Korea and Argentina will square off at Free State Stadium in
Bloemfontein (7:30am EDT, ESPN/ESPN3.com) A victory would put one of these nations in the driver
seat to earn that top spot in Group B.
South Korea was one of the true revelations of the tournament early in their free flowing
victory over Greece.
A busy and controversial weekend of World Cup action has come and gone, but there is plenty of
action left in the Round of 16.
World Cup darkhorse Netherlands takes on Slovakia in an all-European clash (ESPN/ESPN3.com,
10:00 a.m.) in Durban. The winner of this morning's game will be rewarded with a matchup against
the winner of this afternoon's meeting of Brazil and Chile.
Armand Van Helden is not only the world's foremost Ali G and Dwayne DeRosario impersonator but he
is the Madonna of dance music. No one has managed to change with the times as often and as
effectively as he has. When I was 18 I discoverd him through the dark tribalism of "Witch Docter"
at The Loft in Boston.
Every week the contributors to New England Soccer Today will look beyond just the standings
to rank the 16 Major League Soccer (MLS) teams. This week Brian O'Connell and Sean Donahue
contributed rankings. Comments are followed by the ranker's name and the rank they gave that team.
Editor's note: I (Sean) would like to apologize in advance for my gratuitous use of references and
lyrics from the adidas MLS Anthems from three years ago.
I went to the stadium today expecting very little. It was TFC's last MLS home game of 2010 and I
was there out of loyalty to the ritual that is fandom as much as to the team itself. Anyone who
went down to the lake today expecting a lot is either suffering from a dangerous amount of optimism
or too little brain cells.
Oh well, we tried. But in the end the promise of outdoor, air-conditioned stadiums --which in all
honesty sounds like the embodiment of the American dream-- and the least-boozy World Cup in history
won out. It's a shame but that's just the way the funk swings sometimes. But instead of dreaming of
what could have been I shall spend my time wondering what could be.
