in the first half made the difference. The Fennecs enter the World Cup for the first time since
1986.

next summer. But the Republic of Ireland were left fuming as Thierry Henry's handball earned France
a 1-1 draw and a trip to South Africa.
France had won the first leg 1-0 in Dublin on Saturday, but Ireland when Robbie Keane scored
just after the half-hour mark at the Stade de France, the tie was level.

Attention now turns to the December 4 draw in Cape Town, when the 32 nation field will learn their

In case you missed the goal of the World Cup playoffs. Here it is. Antar Yahia's screamer in
Sudan.
Relive the goal. Relive the celebrations. Be in no doubt: This is for 1982. This is for the players
with the peppery hair and tears in their eyes. This is for the players who were robbed.

France, Greece, Portugal and
Slovenia, all of whom have qualified before.
Africa
Arguably the headline match of the day was the special play-off match between Algeria and Egypt to
decide the final World Cup qualifier from Africa.
Both teams had finished with identical records in Group 3 of the final qualifying round which led
to this hastily-arranged one-off match in Sudan to decide the winner.
Algeria qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1986 with a disciplined if patchy
display, in a match as testy as it was tense. Antar Yahia's winner emphasised the commitment to
attack the Algerians have shown throughout qualifying: the scorer was a right-back on a far from
unusual foray.
