US Soccer announced the final four winners of their Best of 2010 awards this morning, including
"Best Blog." MFUSA did not win, nor did we finish in the money.
Really, just getting nominated is an honor and a victory, and that's not me just blowing smoke. We
just passed our second anniversary, so every bit of recognition we get is somewhat amazing.

The Spanish media has gone into a meltdown speculating over the whether or not TV reporter Sara

Manchester United have had larger attendances than City since the 1940's... even when we were
playing at Maine Road! Manchester is red.

A couple of months ago, United and City played in "the most important Manchester derby for
years", as the two clubs battled it out to reach the League Cup final. United were fighting to
retain the trophy they had won last season whilst City had their eye on their first trophy in over
three decades, knowing the final was set to be played on the 34th anniversary since they last won
any silverware.
Although this blog has been around since 2007, June of last year is when I really started making an
effort around here. I tend to think of the real start as June 7th since that's when the Analytics
turned on, but in reality June 4th is when the work started.
But a fake anniversary is most apropos, so June 7th it shall be.
Newcastle United have confirmed they will play top Holland side PSV Eindhoven at St. James' Park on
July 31st, which is the first anniversary of the great man's death last year. Bobby Robson - next

TO the people of the DPRK we say hearty congratulations as the Portuguese anti-Japanese
revolutionary martyrs score seven goals on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of General
Secretary Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
The SPANISH NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM defeated well its recently won FIFA World Champion crown with a
hard fought 1-1 draw against MEXICO in the 200th anniversary of the Mexican Nation-state Friendly
International match at the "Azteca Stadium".Spain went into this game with most of its regular
starters coming in straight from holidays, with "jet-lag" & having to overcome altitude obstacles.
If it wasn't Friday and work wasn't hell, I would have had this up earlier. In fact, I debated
whether to post it at all. Alas, it's gone uber-wide at this point, so it's likely you've already
heard, and there are some ramifications to consider. Charlie Davies was caught going 125 mph (or
whatever that is in kilometers) at some point this past weekend.
LEIPZIG, Germany - German soccer officials and the sport's European chief Michel Platini on
Sunday commemorated the country's 20th anniversary as a reunified soccer team following the end of
the Cold War. "I can still remember our international matches against them, most of which we lost,"
said former France captain and UEFA boss Platini.
It's the first anniversary of the debut of "Shit Shot Mungo" this week, and the artist has asked
me to remind you all that you are quite at liberty to pop over to his website and
buy his crap. Anyway, back to more pressing matters. This week's Mungo sees the eponymous
footballer in hospital with hideous facial injuries, and that can only mean one thing love
interest!
Their 2-0 win at Premier League Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup Fourth Round should have been a
moment to savour, but for Notts County supporters there hasn't been a great deal to celebrate this
week, with widespread reports in the press that a deal which could have secured the long-term
future of the club has collapsed.
German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen marked their 111th anniversary yesterday by wearing a special
edition Nike home kit for their 2-1 league victory over Hertha Berlin. The special edition kit is
Werder's fourth for the 2009/10 season in addition to its 2009/10 Nike home, away and third kits.
Only 1,111 Werder Bremen Nike 111th anniversary jerseys [.
I've never quite understood the whole 'centenary' or 'anniversary' kit business. Sure, celebrating
a birthday is nice, but most clubs and their kit makers spend have their designing lives trying to
pay homage to the past anyway, so it all gets a bit redundant. And then a bit more redundant. They
should celebrate big birthdays [.
There were plenty of draws in the fifth round of the 2010 Torneo Clausura, with only Friday
offering goals in any real measure, but here you can see the heroes and villains from all the
fixtures, including a not-so-happy 18th anniversary for Matías Almeyda who was (he thought
harshly) sent off on the day his [.
The game tomorrow will mark Chris Hughton's second anniversary at the Tyneside club with everything
that's happened on Tyneside in the last two years it seems like 10 years at any other club but this
is Newcastle. Mike Ashley and Hughton do you think Mike likes him? Just think back it was late [.

Yesterday 50,000 people marched through the centre of Buenos Aires to remember the 34th anniversary
of Argentina falling under the control of a military dictatorship.
This afternoon the same number of people turned up to another charged atmosphere, this time it
was the rearranged Superclasico match between Boca Juniors and River Plate.
My wife and I took some much-needed time away from Portland to celebrate our anniversary for the
past few days. While the trip itself was good, I'm certainly happy to be home just in time for the
Timbers season. While I was out, the Timbers had a few announcements of note:
I slept 12 hours last night, and I still feel like crap. But the cure?! Seeing Red! and our 10th

Lots of show highlights, including:

Source Blog: Sp Ftball Sprts /Today, Thursday, 18 years ago is the anniversary of the first ever
European Cup Championship Title for FC BARCELONA. The final was played at the "old" Wembley Stadium

Friday, May 21, will mark the seven-month anniversary of the day Oguchi Onyewu underwent surgery to
repair a torn left patella tendon that many thought would keep him out of this summer's World Cup.
Yet there he was on the practice field Thursday afternoon, kicking, running, chasing, heading --
doing all the things every one of his teammates was doing -- in hopes of being ready to return to
his customary spot of defensive anchor when the U.
Reports in Holland suggest Newcastle will play a pre-season friendly against Dutch side PSV
Eindhoven at the end of July. The reports suggest that it will be to mark the first anniversary of
the great Sir Bobby Robson's death last year. That's a great idea, and something Newcastle should
do every July, and play against one of [.

Time for a confession. I was never that good at maths (an 8% overall score at A Level will
testify to that), and a serendipitous birth defect is the only reason I can count to eleven
confidently so you must forgive me the copy-and-paste nature of this article.
Juventus held a mass on Friday in Turin 25 years after the Heysel stadium disaster, while a
commemoration service to mark the anniversary was also held on Thursday in Liverpool.
The bells of Liverpool Town Hall rang 39 times, once for each of the victims of the tragedy at the
European Cup final between the two teams on May 29, 1985.
Between the vast swathes of speculation in these last few weeks, I nearly managed to forget that a
certain anniversary is about to be upon us. That is an anniversary to mark Mike Ashley having owned
Newcastle United for three years! Doesn't time fly when you're having fun eh? Technically, Ashley
completed the sale three years ago [.

365 days & some 275 posts later, we are proud to announce our 1'st blog-anniversary today! And
to make things even better -
Arsenal just won the Emirates Cup!
Couldn't have asked for a better birthday present really!
This is the view from the cabana at Home Depot Center at the Stadium Club.
This is where a soccer reporter marks 22 years of marriage when the anniversary falls on the
date of a Galaxy home game.
Hopefully the event - and the presence of my wife, Kayla, here at the game - had nothing to do
with the Galaxy falling two three goals behind within the first five 20 minutes of the game.
Thai Port have been drawn against Bangkok FC (formerly Bangkok Bravo) in the first round of the
Toyota League Cup. I am not familiar with the format of this hastily arranged competition, so I
cannot say for certain if the tie will be played over one leg or two. We are definitely scheduled
to play Bangkok FC on Sunday 29th of August @ '72nd Anniversary Stadium', with rumours of a second
leg @ PAT Stadium on either the 1st or 2nd of September.
I'm not usually one for superstitions, but Thai Port's Toyota League Cup opponents Bangkok FC play
in orange shirts, thus giving us a great opportunity to end our 'away kit jinx' at the 72nd
Anniversary Stadium on Sunday. Our success rate for games played in the familiar orange & blue
stripes this season is pretty good: Won 15 - Drawn 5 - Lost 4.

The football e-zine Half-Time Heroes has reached its first anniversary, and in the August edition
the usual suspects (including your friendly neighbourhood tragic) pick over the opening weeks of
the A-League, the appointment of Holger Osieck, and the continuing fallout from the World Cup.

That's right the crying baby is back. And crying babies only mean one thing. No, not that they
are hungry. No, not the soiling of diapers. Birth. Growth. Teething. With your lovely support,
this second year Futfanatico has done both. Here are a few highlights -
Somehow, someway, we reached a traffic explosion never before seen in these parts.

It has been an incredible year of soccer in Philadelphia. Over the next few weeks,
we'll be taking a look back over 2010, the year soccer came home to Philly, as seen through the
lenses of the PSP photographers—Daniel Gajdamowicz, Paul Rudderow and Nicolae
Stoian.
Last year we heard a lot about the "power shift" that was taking place in Manchester. Manchester
City had become The Richest Club In The World (TM) and therefore it stood to reason that they would
overtake Manchester United. The fact that they had signed Carlos Tevez, a United fans' favourite,
who went on to be their top scorer, was further evidence to this.
