Monday marked the fourtieth anniversary of a dark day in the history of football in Argentina and,
indeed, across South America. On the 23rd June 1968, as Boca Juniors fans left the Estadio
Monumental at the end of a mid-season superclásico, a gate was left less than fully opened
under circumstances that remain mysterious to [.
Bob Jordan, over Glendale Soccer, has a nice write up on yesterday's anniversary of the first
official High School game played within the Springfield Public Schools between Glendale and the
Central Bulldogs. He's got details from the Springfield Daily News report of the game that day,
check it out.
Today marks the fifth anniversary of Roman Abramovich's takeover of Chelsea. It was the biggest
in British football history at the time £140 million and, I must say, it has worked out quite
well for the club thus far.
Two Prem titles, two Carling Cups, one Community Shield, an FA Cup and a Champions League final
later, Chelsea is now moving into phase 2 of the revolution, with Uncle Phil & Co.
Having watched Eusebio score 9 goals during the 1966 World Cup in England, the designers at PUMA
decided that he should be the man to help them develop a signature football boot. The process took
two years to complete and in 1968 the PUMA King was born. The boot over time would become just as

Portsmouth will launch their new third shirt for the 2008/2009 season this Thursday, September 18.
The new kit is designed by Canterbury and features the same design as the away kit except that the
third kit is black with gold trim. The shirt celebrates Portsmouth's 110th anniversary as a
football club.
Here's pics of the ACB, Riot Squad and other Galaxy fans up at Oakland. I rode up in one of the bus
charter deals arranged for fans (thanks Galaxy staff for helping me get a spot). The bus trip was
interesting. I was tired, so I actually was trying in vain to sleep while others were practicing
chants, watching the Galaxy anniversary DVD, and complaining about the wimpy air conditioning, but
those with more energy had a lot of fun.

I added a rotating quotes column to the sidebar (which took way too long for someone who considers
himself fairly knowledgeable in CSS and HTML). There are 23 quotes so far:
• 'The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they don't know the
game."
• "If you're in the penalty area and don't know what to do with the ball, put it in the
net and we'll discuss the options later.

Today marks a special day for me here. It is the one year anniversary of this website! I cannot
thank everyone enough for helping me make this into the success that it has become. I'd like to
thank all the people that have helped support me with this site as well for the past year. As well

I'd like to wish everyone here in the States a happy, and most importantly, safe, Independence
Day.
Even though Congress voted to declare independence from Great Britain on July 2, 1776, it wasn't
until two days later that Thomas Jefferson's wording in the document itself was approved. It also
wasn't actually signed by most delegates until August 2, but for some reason, we've chosen to
commemorate American independence on the 4th of July.
Today is of course the anniversary of 9/11. The FCD blog has some remembrances form players about
where they were that day, I found it an terrific read, Ellinger's is the most interesting. To play
along here's my story.

League football might just be the greatest export of Victorian Britain. It seems scarcely credible
that it was a little short of one hundred and twenty years ago that The Football League kicked off
for the first time, so now feels like an appropriate time to celebrate the anniversary of a
venerable institution which has [.
It turns out I wasn't thinking yesterday. In my haste putting up that quick post about Carra, I
forgot that yesterday marked the second anniversary of this blog. Time flies when you're having
fun, I guess.
Yes, I'm amazed I've still got this thing going. But I'm even more amazed that more and more people
come to read, comment, and email me.
Derby County, currently propping up the Championship table with a solitary point from four games,
are fast approaching an unwanted anniversary...
